✒️ Writers' thread ✒️

Posted 6 years, 10 months ago (Edited 6 years, 7 months ago) by castra

I didn't see a thread like this and figured it'd be nice to have some sort of chillout chat for writers! ; v ;

Talk about your current writing projects, your stories, planning, plotting, whatever as long as it's even vaguely writing related!
Anyone who identifies as a writer is more than welcomed; there is no strict definition for the word or anything!

Here are also some questions to start things off:
✒️ Who are you?
✒️ How long have you been writing?
✒️ Your preferred languages in writing?
✒️ What kind of things do you write / enjoy writing?
✒️ Favourite genres for your own stories?
✒️ Any current writing projects?

And some rules, just to make sure this thread will stay nice for everyone!

✒️ Make sure to be polite and nice to each other
✒️ No vagueposting about other users or people in general; let's keep the negativity in vent threads!
✒️ Don't attack / insult other people's interest / favourite genres etc. Discussion is good and disagreements happen, but attacking and insulting are hardly a respectful way of communication.
✒️ Preferably keep things SFW and black out sensitive / upsetting / NSFW-ish content like this

* In problem situations you can contact my main account Caine

✒️ Who are you?

My name is Cain & I'm 21.

I'm a tired uni student who has a love/hate relationship with writing.

My current (& lifelong) obsessions are "The grandmaster of demonic cultivation" & "Heaven Official's Blessing".

✒️ How long have you been writing?

Ever since I was in elementary school. My English teacher got me into it & I've been writing since.

✒️ Your preferred languages in writing?

English (I'll include some Arabic for humor & sometimes Chinese).

✒️ What kind of things do you write / enjoy writing?

I like fantasy & (shamefully) romance. I also like including a bit of humor or satire, because I enjoy comic relief.

Sometimes, I'll write prose when I'm overwhelmed with emotions & don't know what to do with them.

✒️ Favorite genres for your own stories?

Romance, fantasy, a dash of comedy.

✒️ Any current writing projects?

I'm currently working on a short story called "misfortune" (I'm updating here)

But I'm more active on AO3 (https://archiveofourown.org/users/mrloveache) where I have 2 complete works & 1 WIP (+ a character ref sheet)

✒️Who are you?

Howdy hey! My name's Tabitha, anthropomorphic animal extroadinaire, aspiring taxidermist and a teenage writer currently working on her first book who's always learning ^^ I'm not the best or the quickest writer but I'm working towards it everyday. Some of my biggest obsessions are watership down and pretty much every animal story written by D.P Mannix haha.

✒️ How long have you been writing?

Hmmmmm, well I've always had an affinity for it so I suppose whenever I first took it seriously. Somewhere in primary school most likely. The teachers praised me for my work and I guess it motivated me to write no matter what. To be fair, my stories back then we're never any good but I like to think they taught me a lot about writing in general.

✒️ Your preferred languages in writing?

I'm only fluent in English haha :)

✒️ What kind of things do you write / enjoy writing?

Animals! I find the assumption that animal stories are for little kids so degrading to the whole concept honestly. Animal stories can be really harrowing! Take the fox and the hound for example or watership down. I've always connected to animals more than humans due to my anxiety and I guess that just always carried into my work even when I was much younger. It's so exhilarating to right from a completely foreign point of view. To try and emulate the world the way an animal would see it. Not to mention the unique world building opportunities!

Oh yeah, original world's are also my bread and butter. There's something so magical about stepping into the unknown and being completely enthralled that's always gripped me. I always point to the His Dark Materials series by Phillip Pullman as a great example of this. His work has always inspired me and it's been my goal for many years now for my worlds to captivate the audience like his did to me.

✒️ Favourite genres for your own stories?

Xenofiction with just a dash of fantasy

✒️ Any current writing projects?

Hell yeah! Vulpedæ has been a labour of love of mine for months on end now. I'm hoping to get it published at some point so I'm not going to put too much of it here but I love blabbing about this book haha. It follows groups of foxes attempting to survive in a post apocalyptic world completely devoid of humans... Or so they thought.

In the darkness a group of scientists lives on. Abducting animals to perform experiments on without regulation. Accidentally they create what will come to be known as the blessed ones to those who know of them. Animals able to see into the future and view every potential future. Those who will come into being and those which will not. Heilyon is a blessed one coming to terms with her newfound powers and dealing with the struggles of daily life in a laboratory. Until one day, she escapes.

Outside is a group of foxes who's destinies will become intertwined with a dangerous prophecy. The world must die to be reborn. Although only one of them knows it and has to deal with the knowledge she is leading her friends to be slaughtered as they search for a deer who can rip apart the world itself.Bringing them along under a fake promise, only one thing stands in their way.

A dangerous fox with ties to an ancient cult desperate to steal the blessed ones power and ascend to godhood and create his own future. A new age under which the cult will prosper.

He will do anything to eliminate those in his way.

Who are you?

Tehuti88. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

How long have you been writing?

I started writing "seriously" around age eleven (I'm 42 now), though was writing for some time before that as well.

Your preferred languages in writing?

English is the only language I know.

What kind of things do you write / enjoy writing?

I can't keep things short...and I can't come up with one-shot/throwaway characters. I always come up with yet more stuff that can happen or has happened to them; even dead characters end up with elaborate backstories, and show up again in dreams/flashbacks/hallucinations/resurrected/spirit form (depending on the genre). :/ For that reason, I primarily write novellas and serials.

In my completed work, I have two serials, four novels (need serious rewrites), and many shorter stories/novellas; there are also numerous lengthy WIPs (see below). I post all my work online (aside from some of the adult stuff, below, because most sites aren't willing to host it and the one site that will is rather too picky about author's notes/rewrites/replying to reviews) because I get crushed by negative criticism/rejection so I see no point in trying to get published or in self-publishing for profit; people only rarely come across my work on their own (I have zero social network) and barely even read it for free; in almost 20 years online, across multiple sites, I have yet to keep one return reader. :/ Plus I can't figure out self-publishing formatting for the life of me, so I can't even get copies printed for myself.

Favourite genres for your own stories?

Two of my main storylines are in the fantasy/mythology (Egyptian and Ojibwa) genre (with a spinoff storyline that's anthro/adult/GLBT); one is war/anthro (I neglect this storyline); and the fourth is mainly crime/psychological drama with a trace of supernatural (with a spinoff storyline that focuses more on police procedural/psychological drama). Additionally, I occasionally write adult stories featuring characters from the various storylines.

(By "adult," I actually mean another genre, since lately my writing has generally grown more adult in nature, but I'm not sure if the genre name would be appropriate for the forum and I don't know how to black it out. :/ It's named after the Greek god of love.)

Any current writing projects?

Many WIPs, including a novel rewrite, two lengthy serials and a planned sequel, various novellas, etc. I switch storyline moods over time; for the past several years I've been fixated on the police spinoff storyline. Reading/writing OCD has prevented me from working on it much lately -_- but my most recent project (not counting the adult-specific stuff mentioned above) is a meandering ongoing story that basically combines the plots from several proposed novels in this series (since I have no motivation to write the novels now and they tend to blur together in my mind anyway)...it's about a detective investigating the disappearance of another, undercover detective who was trying to infiltrate a criminal cult.

And oh yes, the investigating detective has dissociative identity disorder but doesn't know it yet. 😊

Hello! I just really wanted to share my first drabble about my OCs!!

RazzberryGumdrop

✒️ Who are you?

Hello! I´m Razz and its nice to meet you :> I´m currently in high school and I´m planning on majoring in medics so hope that goes well for me, hehe ^^ I don´t have much hobbies and typically procrastinate, but I would love to be more productive <3

✒️ How long have you been writing?

March of this year I think, I got into it recently since I´ve only done it for school :> 8 months so far, so pretty short. Though recently, I haven´t been writing much due to school.

✒️ Your preferred languages in writing?

English! It´s not my native language, but I got better at it.

✒️ What kind of things do you write / enjoy writing?

Mostly fluff and oneshots. I can´t even finish one chaptered fic, but its fine ;v; I started writing fanfics and I still am, but I do have a little personal project. Poems are fun to write though I´m not very good at them, and they´re very simple and self indulgent. OH! And comedy! Thats actually my favorite genre since I´ve always like making people laugh and smile so I would sprinkle in jokes, and its just fun making others feel better.

✒️ Favourite genres for your own stories?

Fluff, romance and fantasy.

✒️ Any current writing projects?

I currently have 5 fanfics on AO3, a few writing ideas and wips, and one personal project! Currently trying to write a fantasy story in poem format to get better. I think it´ll have 3 main characters and I did brainstorm ideas with others so it´ll be fun!!

Heres my first poem(Pretty simple. I´ve only written like 5 poems in my life, and they´re for school)

"Evicted from home, go watch me roam

The faraway lands spiral out of control

Not my fault I'm a mismatch, from a bad batch

Its time to stop, search for a goal

To give me my role"

sidenote: nice to see these coolio threads get necro'ed

✒️ Who are you?

I'm Jade-Everstone. Also goes by Hell_jpeg on my personal accounts + Fanfiction.net and Ao3

✒️ How long have you been writing?

I think when I was 9 years old? I'm not counting younger because that was mostly school assignments

✒️ Your preferred languages in writing?

English, but that's because it's my main language & only language I can speak and write fluently. (I'm extremely rusty w/spanish & can only read it at this point)

✒️ What kind of things do you write / enjoy writing?

Fanfiction: AU fics. Tbh I could've turned some of my AU stuff into original stories with how much I diverge from canon. but hehee AUs go brrrr. Also Isekai fanfiction. Always been a guilty pleasure of sorts + I swear half the fanfics I write end up being isekai goddamn it

Original: Character interactions and friendships. Part of the reason I got back into original stories is to flesh out my OCs and see how they'd interact but it's become a favorite thing to write about overall.

✒️ Favourite genres for your own stories?

Slice of Life's been a fav of mine lately, but I also like comedy, parodies, sci-fi, and sci-fantasy

✒️ Any current writing projects?

Limiting myself to two right now.

First one's a comic I'm doing as a school assignment. It's a short story called "Spines" about the friendship between two characters after one of them mysteriously starts growing spines all over themselves. I finished the script so It's all down to drawing and inking the pages. I'll be honest I'm not too enthusiastic about it because it's sad & schoolwork, but it's something. Will post it once I'm finished and have turned it in

Second one's a fanfiction I started last year called "Monster, Hunter, Player". Started as a crackfic/parody of isekai fanficton where instead of the MC being a player dragged into the Monster Hunter world, It's both the Player and their Character getting dragged into some modern-furry-version of it. Ended up taking it more seriously. I was actually gonna ditch it because post march/when you-know-what came around I lost the drive (a lot of events are based off positive & silly things that happened on campus). But after seeing the trailer for the MH movie... I decided to continue it just to see if I can write a better isekai than that lol

✒️ Favourite genres for your own stories?

Psychological Horror, Body Horror, Cosmic Horror, Mystery, Suspense and Thriller.

Burnt-Waffle

✒️ Who are you?

I'm Burnt-Waffle! I am often known as Luna / Luna Slypher (not my real name) on aminos, tumblr, Instagram, etc, although my user names are often vine/food names :") (Frosted.skittles/IG, step-the-fuckk-up-kyle/oshititsarat/ tumblr, i_dontcarethatyoubrokeurelbow, you get the point lol) I'm 13 years old and live in California, in a low class neighborhood, working my hardest to get out and get my name known!

✒ When did you start writing?

I started back in 5th grade, round 2017-18, writing creepypasta×oc universe×fairy tail×other fandoms fanfiction, but tweaking it up a lot to the point it became a possible oc universe!

✒️ Your preferred languages in writing?

English is the only language I know :")

✒️ What kind of things do you write / enjoy writing?

I write fanfiction-self inserts and brotps, rarely ever ships, and oc stuff, usually angst scenes.

✒️ Favourite genres for your own stories?

Not sure, tbh! Drama , probably

✒️ Any current writing projects?

nope!

v1nsinclair

✒️ Who are you?

I'm Jay, I'm a 14 year old neurodivergent enby/boy (demiboy) and I have an amazing British accent which is about the only thing I got goin for me. /hj

✒️ How long have you been writing?

Man, it's hard to say,,, I guess I've nearly always liked writing? I loved creative writing time in Primary 2 or 3 and I guess it just stuck? I'm definitely an  "on and off" sort of writer, which is to say I don't often focus on projects but when I do I hyperfocus. I started getting back into the swing of things this year.

✒️ Your preferred languages in writing?

I am a legal dumbass so I only know English. I mean I could also write broken French I suppose but I would just be naming furniture because the French you learn in school is like the bare minimum and useless in a practical sense lmao.

✒️ What kind of things do you write / enjoy writing?

Well, I know it's kinda considered cringey but I'm not the type of guy to care much, I like to write fanfiction for my hyperfixations usually, the one I've written most about is danganronpa, but I also am working on developing my ocs so I can write more about them. I need to get more oc ships so I can write mindless ship oneshots lol.

✒️ Favourite genres for your own stories?

As to the genres I like writing, well it can be anything from romance to horror-based, I'm not too fussy, but since I enjoy writing about my ships and stuff romance tends to be an overarching theme, I guess cause it's easier and often requires less planning.

✒️ Any current writing projects?

Well I had like two fics sitting in a folder buuuut I've somewhat lost interest in the plots and the ships aren't the ones I'm currently fixating on lol. I might try to start a new one tho, but I also plan to write out the backstory for my favorite oc so we'll see.

Dokledee

✒️ Hi my name is Kei! I just turned 20 and I am experimenting with he/they pronouns, though you can totally stick to they/them if you want. I am currently a student in university majoring in Psychology

✒️ Surprisingly I started writing last august of 2020, I decided I was tired of complaining that I sucked at writing and just started to do it haha.

✒️ I only know english so I only write in english.

✒️ I really enjoy writing romance and angst. Though, theres something about writing about sunsets also that riles me up! I tend to write a lot and according to my friends it‘s almost pessimistic which sounds about right. I have heard about a writing style but I don’t think my skill level has reached there yet.

✒️ I prefer writing things that are relatable and come from the heart, though I plan on writing more fantasy related novels soon with an original species of mine.

✒️ I am currently working on a story about two of my ocs titled The Two of Us . It has 16 chapters so far and around 52,000 words, I am really surprised I have been able to keep up with it. It’s about two childhood friends separating shortly as young adults after falling in love and struggling through hardships such as trauma etc when they finally reunite nearly a decade later. As a psych major I plan on keeping it as realistic as possible in terms of symptoms and the whole process of recovery. In that sense, it’s a bit heavy for those who are sensitive to those topics but you can skip the chapters with the warnings and not really miss anything. I plan on it having 40 plus chapters in the end and if you ever do read it don’t be afraid to leave feedback whether it be grammar mistakes or unrealistic aspects.

Derelict

✒️ Who are you?

- dere/derelict/brendan. call me whatever you like. 23, he/him. graduated last year with a biology & environmental sciences degree, next step is vet school. i love to write in my spare time. getting into drawing too, but i’m very new to it.

✒️ How long have you been writing?

- as long as i can remember. took a hiatus for a good while but in recent years i’ve been getting back into it.

✒️ Your preferred languages in writing?

- english. old/modern depending on setting.

✒️ What kind of things do you write / enjoy writing?

- i’m really into writing darker stories. anything that can provide a sobering insight on the human condition.

✒️ Favourite genres for your own stories?

- fantasy, crime, thriller/horror, scifi

✒️ Any current writing projects?

i’ve currently got 4 different projects i’m working on. plotlines that have been with me for a very long time, and am finally getting around to putting to the page, fleshing out and developing. in order of scale/amount of lore/dedication:

1. Terenne: medieval fantasy series. grimdark, rare magical elements. morally ambiguous characters, interwoven alliances, relationships, political intrigue, battles, etc. lots of world-building, lore and history.

2. Hard Times: modern scifi. crime/detective/military focused with some supernatural/occult elements. genetic modification, other-dimensional abilites. the most “fun” universe i’ve invented.

3. End Times: post-apocalyptic horror/thriller. infected undead, characters struggling to deal with various threats and life after the world ends.

4. Blacklight: my newest baby. near-future scifi, crime thriller. lots of neon and flashy colors. crime rates in the streets are only rivalled by the suits in the skyscrapers above.

glad to have found this community!

Here are also some questions to start things off:

✒️ Who are you?

I'm Deadline! I've had a lot of other aliases in the past, but that's the one I'm using now. I'm in my late 20s, which means I've obviously had my works in bad fanfic for a few years before finding a niche and improving.

✒️ How long have you been writing?

Since early teenhood, starting with bad fanfics and progressing. So...over a decade? Close to 15 years ago.

✒️ Your preferred languages in writing?

English. I can't write in other languages.

✒️ What kind of things do you write / enjoy writing?

I mostly enjoy writing out backstories for my characters, or else drabbles. Roleplaying, too.

✒️ Favourite genres for your own stories?

Usually ship stuff I've had with friends, or else small AU things to keep to myself.

✒️ Any current writing projects?

Besides trying to convince myself to crawl back to my roleplay blogs, no, not much else besides filling my Toyhouse with my OCs and whatnot.
