Feedback thread for the Front/Browse/Search page updates — the corresponding announcement and changelist is here!

🎯 Goals —

  • Reduce congestion in the character trade listings and search pages that was previously caused by a bunch of ads/non-characters being submitted to the site
  • Improve visibility on the top page for characters that are currently being pushed off by non-characters
  • Make it easier to find what you’re looking for when searching for characters/codes/resources/services/etc

📋 Seeking feedback for —

  • I wasn’t sure whether people would prefer having each character type separated out into a separate listing rather than everything just being types of character?
    • I opted to just add an optional filter since this seems more flexible in terms of search and customization (people seem to just be creating everything as a “Character” profile currently anyway, and a lot of the features are going to be the same), but let me know if this doesn’t feel good, or if anyone has suggestions regarding how to better structure the listings.
    • My original idea for the front page was to allow people to add an arbitrary number of blocks (eg. if you want to add a Popular Characters, Popular HTML/CSS, Popular Resources blocks separately), but the UI for the control panel started getting very long and confusing so I just scrapped the idea. I’ll probably be fiddling with this to see if there’s a way to do this that isn’t overwhelming for the average user.
  • Character categories:
    • These are currently “Character”, “HTML/CSS”, “Resource”, “Service/Ad” based on what we most commonly receive reports for, but this can be expanded or updated if we feel that this is missing anything or is too broad.
  • General UI/UX feedback:
    • If there’s anything confusing or if you have suggestions for how to improve any areas of the front/browse/search pages.
  • Extra features:
    • Are you someone who regularly uses the trade listings or front pages and feel like there are changes or extra features that could be added to make life easier for you?? Have ideas for how to help make the listings less frustrating and more accessible?? Let me know!!
  • Performance issues:
    • Is the site super laggy for you now??? If not site-wide, please do point out the specific pages that you’re having issues with.
  • Anything else related!! If you have any feedback for an unrelated feature, it may be better to submit a HelpDesk ticket rather than replying to this specific thread.

I think it'd be neat if there was a category for like,, worldbuilding or story-related stuff, or at least a category for other. I don't think I have any public rn, but I like using some codes to help sort out my story and world lore in some stuff I'm developing :)

examples of f2u codes that are up (so y'all know I ain't the only one wanting/using this lol)

and then another thing I see a lotta people use is a character page for their art examples! if you don't wanna go overboard on categories though, I think that an "other" type would be a good thing to add for flexibility :)

Okay so this is a lovely idea to have different categories for different pages!!! The only thing missing imo is a separate category for maybe like, lore stuff? A lot of people make separate pages for places in their universes, the whole lore of the universe, species info etc, so it would be great if that would be added!!

Some people (me) also uses some TH pages for storing their art (since TH is just a very good place for not only character archive but also art archive) so it would be cool to have a separate category for art archives?? Yea!!

Don't have time to see if it's been mentioned on this thread but since we have categories for characters now, could we get a location profile catagory? That would be super useful! I wanna make some pages for the town my main story takes place in and it's stores and houses and other locations but I'm having to use a regular character profile for it which doesn't feel quite right. I think this has been requested before in other threads so I think lots of people would like this!

EDIT: was right above me lmfao, also agree with a lore category for compiling info!

Would it be possible to be able to have a way to set a "Default Category" in Character Settings so that every time a profile is uploaded, that category is selected by default? I know it's just clicking an extra button every time I upload a profile, so I understand it not being a priority, but it'll make things easier/ more convenient for my code-specific account where I only post codes/ resources there.

Thanks for the mass updater addition! I'm glad everyone else can do this en masse now, and wont have to go through 30-something profiles like the rest of us did.

On the topic of having separate trade listings for characters/art, I say YES!
It'd give a way for us to search for art listings without having to sift through dozens of characters. (and spam 'purge' profiles that people listed as a character for trade instead of ads.)

As for separating F2E raffles from the game/contest tab, I think I disagree.
While some of these are "fav this character to enter" which I don't mind seeing listed as freebies? (although I'd prefer it to be in it's proper location)
I see a lot of people skirt around the "freebie" part by making the entry requirement something demanding such as "fav 5 of my ocs and subscribe to me" which, at least in my opinion, falls under fav/sub farming.

While we're still on the subject of raffles, I think it'd be better to just add the word Raffle onto the 'Games/Contests' category instead.
I imagine a large amount of the improperly listed raffle profiles are because people are genuinely unaware they belong in that category.

Yuzuriha I believe it actually was there originally, but it clogged up the areas you use often with something you probably won't be changing a lot. It was also moved down to prevent people from accidentally changing their profiles (which can't be reversed) while trying to edit other things.

Also +1-ing Caribou, it's nice to see other people with the same stuff as me! It fits great into the' Other' category I had in mind.

i wanna second any "other" or "worldbuilding" catergory for characters ! i know many people who have characters just for this

Thank you for this update! I like being able to sort through different types of content. I finally can see characters instead of just HTML/CSS profiles. T^T

For the people who use Art profiles, I think it would make more sense to put them under ads since I assume that your intention is to advertise your service(s).
