Long story short
He trusted someone he shouldn't even though his crew warned him otherwise, then he was turned against his will and had to watch his crew fall apart and meet their own fates. He's alone and hiding on a farm he maintains mostly by himself and some workers, one of them being and crew member frakensteined. He hasn't smiled since the 1860s.
Gustav!!!!! has a mean resting bitch face but in reality is very shy!!! easier to put his words through pen and paper
He's not the smiling type. He struggles to express his emotions, so most of the time he appears stoic.
Ignoring the obvious reason lol- he's not grouchy or jaded or anything, he just,, generally does not use facial expressions to convey his emotions, certainly not to the extent that humans do. It's not really a thing where he's from.
Too tired to, because emotions drain his energy. If you get him to be too emotional (a long laughing fit, a rant etc.) there's a good chance he'll pass out at the end.
Tai doesn't often smile, though it isn't entirely because of discontentment. He won't smile while simply content or relatively pleased, you gotta really lift his spirits to get him to crack a smile. It doesn't help that part of his job is to look intimidating and he hasn't had the easiest life either.
