Want to suggest a question? Feel free to DM me!

I figured that since the "weekly show me a character" thread has been alive and running for a couple of years now, I could give a shot at doing similar with development questions! vinn vinny

- vinny used to have a lot of issues with his anger; he'd always bury it away or ignore the source-- sometimes even disappearing for a while altogether until he calmed down. in the end, he usually apologizes unless it's something really serious or that he believes in fully.

- when he started living with people, others would assume he's angry with them and doesn't want to be near them. however, he doesn't actually like directing his anger at a person and is really just trying to calm down-- he gets overwhelmed easily. if he's not careful while he's like that, he'll end up yelling at someone or actually cause real damage... which is exactly what he doesn't want.

- he doesn't like the fact he's this way but he knows he can't do anything about it and has to accommodate to his emotions. nowadays, he doesn't try to fully run away as he knows that hurts people. instead, for those he trusts the most, he'll just ask them to give him a moment. when he gets mad at his boyfriend, he gets sad too since he doesn't want to be angry at his love, and he usually just pouts and doesnt talk to him while hugging or holding his hand...

Soryuu Tokugawa Rainbow000Pegasus

Week 31: How do they express their anger? How does it appear to others, and how does the character themself feel about their own anger? Does their society encourage or discourage certain expressions of anger?

Soryū... well, he doesn't get angry easily, but when he's angry, he's just not someone anyone wants to get close to.

When he gets angry in general, due to someone's incompetence, a ploy he failed to take notice of, failure, he gets explosive. His words are harsh, spoken without thinking, and he's not afraid to make rude remarks about others around him when he's angry, even if they're not related to whatever made him mad. He won't get physical though, because he knows that physical appearances and physical pain mean nothing to him and his kind. As an object himself, he doesn't want to hurt or destroy other objects or inflict damage / pain to non-animate items. Due to his lack of anger in general, people don't often comment on it, his father figure would try to calm him down, but often he'll get a mouthful of insults instead. Soryū doesn't mind getting angry this way, because he'll only get mad when things are truly messed up.

His other anger, a more specific one, is at himself. His fiancée, Eiko, used to be on really good terms with him, but due to his own confusion and his lack of understanding of the future and his powers, he becomes insecure, and doesn't think he has the power to protect the promised future he shares with the girl. He becomes possessive of Eiko, and he knows he's wrong to chase after her, he can't help it. Of course, this only further infuriates Eiko, so he's trying to change himself, so they're both trying to change to at least be able to support each other.

Lien Vieldman Laceyyia

Lien didn't usually get really angry and it's rare tho.

Lien is really angry usually caused by reporters who offend or speak badly about his family, he won't answer those questions when interviewed. Instead, he takes out his anger by playing the piano until his mind clears again. Because he's a model he can't be careless in doing something and also Lien is not that type of person who took out his anger carelessly and vent it to everyone.

All of his collague and friends knew that whenever media or someone talk badly about his family his aura seems so scarry, even though Lien is acting like usual but the atmosphere between him is really bad, so when he felt angry his manager would tell him to go home to rest about 1 - 2 hour then go back again.(this doesn't affect to his works, he works like usually but the manager really consider him, so he always want Lien to go home to rest for a few hours)

Everyone in his work knew and really try hard to avoid a reporters or media who would anger him. Lien loves his family more than anything, he doesn't care wheter the media talk bad about him (well it's rare tho because he's not the type who will easily get bad talk about him), but not his family.

 Valerion confusedthing

Valerion tries his best to stay calm in every situation, however he does angry, even if it is rare. Usually he will try to hide it, but depending on how angry he gets you might see him clenching his jaw or generally get more tense. It is very beneficial to him that a lot of people see him as cold and tense anyway, so at least some of it goes unnoticed. People who know him might notice it a lot more, since all of his gestures and expressions are more subtle, so they probably get used to seeing the little changes.
The one subject where he is known to 'lash out' is his little brother. He will not tolerate anyone talking badly about him and will either give a stern warning or straight up kick someone out then and there. It is all still fairly tame, as in, he will not yell or get violent in any way, he will just get colder - he kind of gets that vibe that is calm but very much intimidating and usually shuts people up (I lack the skill to describe it better in English lol)

He does not like getting or being angry since he was raised to be a level-headed individual and had to learn to suppress any strong emotions he might have. So he usually does not know how to deal with it and tries to ignore it; he might find someone to spar with, visit his horses or play an instrument. What he does not do is talk about it, he simply does not know how.

His society does not care too much about any expression of anger, of course severe violence is a crime, but that's about it. For the royal family people see them as cold and do not like if that image gets disrupted, so for his specific case it is discouraged to show any anger whatsoever. The people in his kingdom do overall have a calmer temper so yelling is frowned upon - it is most common for people to just deal with their emotions by themselves.

Sarah Owens Skylion44

Sarah tends to get incredibly snarky and sarcastic when she gets angry. She's also the kind to laugh out of frustration when angry.

Because of her situation and position as lead researcher on multiple important experiments, Sarah acts aloof and often breaks minor rules because what is the lab going to do, fire her? She knows she's too important to Avix (the lab she works for) to get rid of her. This attitude influences how she expresses anger, tending to stay overly 'happy' and positive sounding. She mainly gets angry about feeling trapped herself but anything directed at her surrogate daughter Gen will send her into a rage. She loathes how Gen is treated but cant do much about it on her own.

However, her childhood friend Isacc is one of the only people who really see her angry, or at least one of the few who notice most of her subtler anger.

Since the world is essentially just our own several years in the future, views on anger are pretty much the same, and anyone in Sarahs high position is looked down upon when showing anger.

(I'll probably come back and rewrite some bits later)

✧˖°Yugana KamiKoi

She often don't even notice that her anger is there and is going to far, cause of her backstory other view it with fear.

AlleycatIrony

for a few of my boys:

rahart:

while he appears angry most of the time, he's usually just something along the lines of annoyed. when he's actually angry, he is very visibly emotional, showing a lot in his face. he'll be choked up, most likely crying, and his accent tends to come through. he'll isolate himself or disappear w/o warning for awhile - him going missing for long periods of time was quite problematic when he was still a teen.
he doesn't do it so much now, but he still tends to wander from time to time. he also tends to act impulsively - whether it would be getting himself into fights to relieve tension or put himself in other dangerous situations

kiyung:

he's very loud and will yell, scream, kick, punch... he's more or less a full tantrum-thrower. he breaks things, sometimes. usually the only way to deal w/ his anger is to just let him tire himself out, bc u can't rly get a word in or intervene. his bf is p used to his outbursts and will just ignore him until he's done. he behaves this way frequently

elian:

elian will give the silent treatment if ur the cause of his anger, while if the reason is smthn else he'll rant and curse a bit at whoever will listen. he'll do this with the expectation of getting an agreement, opinion, or advice from whoever he's complaining to. his silent treatment is deliberately done to piss off the person who's the cause of his anger, and since he's incredibly stubborn he can keep it up for days or weeks until he gets over it (depending on the severity of the issue)

jae:

another silent treatment kinda guy, jae won't speak not only to the person responsible but he won't speak to anyone at all - not even to himself. he doesn't talk much as is, but intense emotions make him mute. those who don't know him well won't be able to tell if he's angry by looking at him, but those that do would notice tenser expression compared to his usual blank look
if he's got a lot bottled up he'll let loose by scribbling in a book or writing in his diary before ripping out those pages and throwing them out

TK:

he'll be serious and monotone, which is very jarring when one is used to his normal cheerful demeanor. he can be terribly petty and has an underlying 'mean girl' attitude that will make him act deliberately rude to whoever or whatever pissed him off

alistair:

he rarely gets angry, as his depression and anxiety is normally too strong for him to act out in any way. usually he'll just rip a cone and stare at the ceiling for awhile with some music playing. the only time he's rly gotten MAD mad it ended up being a whole lot of weirdly cohesive word vomit that resulted in him dumping isaiah completely out of his life (temporarily)
that was a very drastic result of years and years of angst buildup, so anger is typically dealt w/ alone for him

eoryth:

he is a violent man who will 100% lash out and injure others when angry (sometimes critically, or straight up kill them if it's bad) - only two ppl seem to have the ability to calm him down in a rage, being his only support ada and ex-childhood friend leiko

Caine

Week 32: What's the biggest story and/or personality related change you have made on a character? What made you want to change it?

Colette BlueTomoshibi

So originally Colette was an over eagar and naive girl who didn't really know very much and had to be told about how the world worked. She was the foil to the main character of her original story who was the super expert.

When incorporating her into my current novel, I decided she would instead be the super expert and make her just oblivious to social cues. I did keep her anger in, but toned it down (she was a bit hot tempered before)

Rose Taeya

She originally was supposed to be a spiteful serial killer whos main goal was to kill her cousin Lily. I kinda made her as a vent character, because me and my cousin at that time had a very frustrating and lowkey toxic relationship, and I really had trouble voicing my feelings.
We worked things out tho and get along well nowadays, and I think with that development I also subcounsiously started developing her into a cheerful and bubbly, but pretty shady girl, who's an annoyence to Lily at worst.
If things ever fall apart between us again, I'm not gonna change Rose along with it, but I think it was a pretty interesting development.

Kira Rainbow000Pegasus

Week 32: What's the biggest story and/or personality related change you have made on a character? What made you want to change it?
I feel like I keep pulling Kira out on these questions, but she had both a backstory and personality change!
Initially, she was made as Sakura's rival, the "better" Sakura, per se, but eventually I decided to make her into an alter, influenced by Pat and Rey from Megaman Starforce. After doing research, I found that people with DID (MPD when I did research back then) could have multiple alters, and they're just always represented poorly in media to be a Hyde and Jekyll situation, so Kira turned into an elder sister type of character, but I kept her cold and unwavering, ultimately better at fighting compared to Sakura as well.

 Jay Hunter NathanU

Jay used to be quite different from how he is now... He was together with Min from the get-go and had Alyx's jokey personality (which was... honestly more fitting, him being a yeen)

Now he a broody boi who lost his family and started killing criminals in an attempt to vent
