Howl's got a weird name, but he's a very intense person so everyone just sort of accepts it as normal? It's not his legal name. He picked it himself when he moved to Canada around the age of twelve. He thought it would make him seem more mysterious and intimidating. (It did, because all his peers were also twelve.) Even his parents call him Howl, now. You have to be a very specific person to pull that off.
