💡 Why does your OC exist (in meta)?

Posted 5 years, 6 months ago (Edited 5 years, 5 months ago) by fuelli

Hi! A lot of us have OCs with fleshed-out backstories and complex personalities... but what was the first thing, the first trait you've come up to for them? What made you create this character? The answer can be as serious ("I wanted to create a character to share with my experiences with <event>") or silly ("I really like pasta so I've made a character who likes pasta") as you want!

Just have fun and please keep things civil ♥

I was reading an Inklesspen review of an ancient DnD? sourcebook, one focused on making dragons playable, and had the itch to make a character for it. I basically designed his and Dimitri's initial concept from poorly-remembered overarching concepts from that book, and, uh, rereading it proved that my memory had been very poor indeed. :V So I ended up just taking the differences and running with them, making it into an entire setting of its own.

(most of my oldest OCs i unfortunately do not remember how they were conceptualized very well...)

oh boy. you get to hear the story for this one.

i've always been FASCINATED by pokemon glitches, oversights, unused content. back when i was... ten or eleven, i had the idea for a fanmade type i called the 'tech' type. it was based around computers/viruses and glitches. eventually, i remembered the project when i was fifteen, and revived it into a project i've dubbed Glitchdex, based around the (newly renamed) 'glitch' type.

jacred exists as a character similar to AZ or N; someone who's not quite a rival, and very important to the story. they started almost like a second professor, but evolved into a former evil team member who helps you on your journey. them being NB comes entirely from the fact that i couldn't decide on them being male or female

tl;dr: This Nonbinary Cyborg Pokemon Trainer Comes Entirely From My Hyperfixation On Glitches And My Indecisiveness

 â˜† Haru Hatonni

For this bean they were a character I made up when I was 10 or so, I just wanted to have a character like how all the artists had too so I made her. Shes been through a lot of re-designs but her current is my favourite,

For a lot of my other characters I like making demonic and hellish creatures that usually help me practice certain things like hands or teeth or just distorted anatomy

Takibi Tenmon AxelTheOwl

Haha lol I just wanted a man with a scar on half of his face that was scared of fire.

So here is lol

FANFARE Nynebark

My friends and I were talking about how sparkle dogs and scenecore have been making a comeback in various online spaces, and then proceeded to challenge each other to make the most eye-bleeding, over the top designs possible.

Doc GoodKnight

I hated doctors at the time due to bad experiences so I made a doctor-themed character with the intent of making him miserable. (that was a bit edgy of 2019 me, I know) But I got attached to him and now I love him lol

Kuzma limecornchip

I just really wanted one of my ocs to have feathered 70s hair and aesthetic... bc I love it

but uh... they have neither anymore lol. I eventually decided I wanted them to have a more emo/goth clothing style instead. Their hair is still fluffy, tho its longer

Vontanious yanderechips

So for Vonny here he actually used to have 4 arms. When i was younger (probably 9) I hated drawing hands/nubs. So all his arms had sleeves. I then was like: "yo what if he didn't have hands anymore??" So i took some lore out of my old comic book and then I gave him tentacles as a replacement. They stuck.

Tldr: arms bad tentacles good

Foxglove Crane ARCHIVAL

Okay, so this is a rather heavy reason but for the past year I've been battling anorexia & have recently begun the long road of recovery. All my OCs had traits I wanted to see in myself that I was working so hard to achieve (thinness, abs, etc. -- things difficult for me to reach due to being physically disabled), so I felt I needed to create an OC that I could look up to that didn't hold such unreachable goals for me. Fox is an OC I'm using to explore the idea of being chubby, of putting on weight, & I'm using him as a role model to help me feel comfortable with food & a healthy (yet perhaps a little flabby/chubby) body.

I suppose he was created as a comfort character of sorts!

L U N A Burnt-Waffle

Homegirl here has been thru hella redesigns but here's her current😌 abt 5 years ago when I was like 8 I saw fairy tail and said ooh me like and based her off of a monster high character :") now after 5 years, this is what she looks likeÂ
