Characters with signature design trait?

(Apologies if this thread have been created but why didn't I have ideas for threads when I still had my premium/search button lol)

So! One of my favorite part of a character design is them having a certain design trait or accessory (or just anything like hairstyle, clothing, item, etc) that are strongly associated with a character--they wear/hold them most of the time regardless of outfits, situations (or heck, you can spot it even if the character appears as a silhouette) or they absolutely have that as a part of their character and it's either rare or looks strange if they are seen without one? As one would say, well, their "signature" or "trademark" in a form of design.

Do share as many characters as you want here, I'd love to know! (Also feel free to share if the said design trait is just an extra addition to their design or have a certain story or reason to them)

Prime examples would be: Any form of hats, plushes, hair clips/necklace/bracelets, maybe the character is always seen with a ponytail? And many others

𝑆𝑎𝑒𝑟𝑜𝑛 AokiChisai

The scales on her shoulders and back are mandatory, as are the shorter side strands of hair (like a himecut) and snake eyes. Something that is not mandatory, but always present, are the accessories, such as her snake diadem and pearl necklace. There's also plenty of lilac in Saeron's color palette.

Roi koen

have a few but Roi immediately came to mind, mandatory to have his bell necklace/bandages on his tail ! though they don’t have to be specific lol

Ashlyn Ramos Roheryn

For Ashlyn it would absolutely have to be her stained glass legs/horns, maybe the matching tattoo.

SkystormV

Ooh. I think most of my characters have one haha.

Anderson’s is probably his mullet style hair and his two facial scars.

Zog’s is his little curled sideswipe of bangs, his glasses, and a mole on his jaw.

Axo’s is just his entire appearance in general I think.

There’s more, but I think that’s enough

Clara Clemont cozylittleartblog

When I designed Clara so many years ago I gave her an Avon bracelet i own IRL, couldn't tell you why but something about it really seemed to fit her. I didn't know shit about vintage fashion at the time and it's kinda tacky and doesn't fit the time period particularly well, chunky plastic jewelry was more of a 1920's thing (and this particular bracelet IRL is from like,,, the 1970s or 1980s), but it's persisted all these years. Her design has been tweaked a lot but the bracelet has pretty much always been the same. I considered removing it at some point until I found out about the 20's obsession with Bakelite plastic and jewelry, and I managed to find period-accurate pieces remarkable similar to her accessory. Then again the 70's and 80's seem to pull a lot of inspo from the 20's so maybe it's not such a coincidence lol.

Anyway, yeah. bracelet. It's a weird staple of her design but I can't imagine her without it at this point.

Okay so most of my characters have a design trait they must have, but a large part of my demon characters all share some similarities that they must always have (minus a few exceptions)

Pointed ears to some extent (there are exceptions to this rule but it's few and far between and there's usually a specific reason for it)

Sharp teeth of some sort

Cat eye pupils (there are some rare exceptions)

Sharp claws and feet - ( probably the most important )

Usually no shoes unless for aesthetic purposes only (and must be open toed)

Only special demons can have red eyes or wield fire magic

shizuou ShindaSuzume

shizuo is like my mascot now and hes been called recognisable more than once, im not too sure what it is, but upon oversimplification, i learnt it was his 2 tufted crest! he just... doesnt look right in his art without them

Vickson 💣 EmptyProxy

Vickson here always has makeup (Heavy eyeshadow, fake lashes and mascara) done up only on his left eye. He's a gameshow host so it makes sense for him to have a lil signature something :3

Valentine Adelaide IIDX

I feel like he has quite a few... Like the eyepatch is a given but that's removable so it's not as "integral" in that case? Same with his necklace and the maid outfit and all that. But otherwise definitely the weird hairstyle and color. The fluffies on the side with the yellow dyed tendrils. That one part of his bangs where you can tell he gets tired of it in his eyelashes so he chops it off straight like an elementary schooler with safety scissors and too much power. I've never seen the same hair on another character (probably for good reason LMAOOO) and it really makes him who he is

Then again I did also design him a katana that's distinctly his, so that could also work as a character item sorta thing

Madoka sivanhe

I'd say Maddie's mask is her signature trait; she's never seen without it, and it completes her look in a way :]

crump

I HAVE A FEW, I'll go through my main 6 just for now :]

Sabishii has a lot that's important for her design, like the repetitive use of hearts. But i think the most signature thing about her is her hair! Her tuft of hair on her forehead being INTEGRAL to her character design. She'd probably look really weird without it...It's also something that a lot of people mention in her storyline, and one of the reasons sab and fern are so close. It's one of the first things fern noticed about her as a child and fern was convinced it was cotton candy or something.. OH ALSO sabishii without lipstick can look a bit funny so I'll throw it in here too

Fern has a couple weird ones, but her necklace and clothing choices are the main ones. I've gotta be honest having a medical symbol as a necklace since ur a nurse is a bit strange but It looks..cool? kinda? For clothing choices, she only ever wears Sleeveless things, and its pretty rare that you see her with sleeves. Mostly a result of trauma, but she's also pretty sensitive to heat and WAY prefers to be cold so it's a win win situation for her

Kokatsu HAS to be wearing a number of things at once, which includes both her gloves and goggles. She also refuses to wear anything unless there's some form of red in it, so you'll always be able to spot her from a mile away since she's usually one solid colour. She also has one side of her hair that has black tips, which is a result of her burning the ends pretty frequently. She mostly does it by accident if she's nervous or flustered but sometimes she just does it...for fun. ONE MORE THING FOR KO, she likes to carry around her guitar with her especially if she's having a bad day, its like a bit of a extra safety blanket for her in a way? but it's something that isn't that necessary and not toooo much of a trademark

Sylvia is still in the works, and I'm still tweaking her design n stuff BUT I have some for her that I keep no matter what. Their earrings are always present, even if it's just the sun or the moon (they're detachable ;) and I mostly like to draw them with some kind of sun design on their clothes, even if it's not that visible. She's also mostly seen with SOMETHING pushing her hair back, such as a headband or sunglasses. The default is the headband though, and it can be coloured differently to suit what she's wearing :) It's also preferable that she's drawn with rings and/or necklaces, but it isn't something that is a signature feature

Sumu changes A LOT I'm so indecisive with her design..so there's really only one thing that's a trademark for her. Her left eye is mostly always covered, only exceptions are when she's asleep or in summer when it gets too hot. She doesn't have that significant of a reason for it other than she thought it "looks cool", plus she's blind in her left eye so it doesn't affect her sight in any way :)

ANNNNDD last but most definitely least, Henry! He also doesn't have too many, aside from his hair. But I have a few unnecessary ones which I'll share instead   This is mostly because of a joke a few of my old friends had, but he EXCLUSIVELY wears fruit themed underwear and yes this includes socks. His favourites being Pineapple and Watermelon themes. Why he does it? I couldn't tell you...

Yukiko Abematsu INTERNET-OVERDOSE

eyepatch. she needs it. plus to her its iconic. and if she takes it off, a nasty scar is behind it, from her being picked apart by dogs around her eye due to her being left behind as a small small child by her teen mom, who gave it up for basically the same reasons as momiji sohma's mother forgetting him.
