OCs whose name/pronouns people always get wrong

Show me your characters whose name and/or pronouns people always get always wrong! Because we all know that's the kind of thing that happens, be it on the website itself (esp. forum games), off-site, or even in real-life! Are some characters of yours more prone to this than others, and why/how? And how do you usually reacts when it happens?

Ciela Lithelle BlackEmpress

I've heard so many different pronunciations of "Ciela" that it's asinine at this point. It's supposed to be like (si/EH/la) but I swear I've heard every single way to incorrectly pronounce it

Kade mossyrocks

Lots of people call Kara a boy... I guess it's because her body shape isn't too feminine and she has no eyelashes, but still, it's annoying.

Adler the Eagle once pronounced Kara as 'Kahr-a'; it wasn't annoying, and it was kinda sweet! (yes it was in one of his RollerCoaster Tycoon streams; I got picked for the random ride!)

Gumiya Blaze kuroguroo

Gumiya, but I understand the confusion because he is very androgynous.

GoodKnight

Doc and John are basic names and so similar sounding that I keep getting their names mixed up when talking about them lmao. My friend does it too

 Ashley Cosandk

Somehow Ashley, who has a more feminine name (yes, ive seen guys with it! But its a dominate female name), and also has a very feminine figure when in anthro form, gets called a male more often than youd think

The "It" (WIP) Rooster-Cult

Its name is It and it's prounouns are it/it's-
What was meant to be a placeholder turned into lore. Very often called she/her
honestly, Its story is supposed to develop where it used a different name and pronouns, since "it" was used to dehumanize it
also it is very hard to refer to this character even as its creator

dear_crybunny

the fact that people would accidentally refer to haruhi as he/him is the sole reason why i decided to draw under-eyelashes on my nonbinary characters to make them look less masculine!

even if haruhi solely uses they/them pronouns i'd rather people slip up n say she/her than he/him since theyre closer to the ~feminine binary~!

poor masami also constantly got refered to as he/him and was in the same situation as haruhi except they dont even wanna poke at the gender binary with a 10 foot pole! some of the funniest jokes from the roleplay involves people refering to them as he/him and that makes me very sad, but it's a bit too late to ask to change now!

i should probably stop be baby and be more strict and correct people when they misgender my ocs actually

LiminalOverTea

ALL of my OCs have weirdly-spelled, hard-to-pronounce fantasy names, so I hold no grudge against people making their most earnest attempt. 😂 I will probably be making a guide soon, so people don't bust a vein trying to read the character profiles.

Some examples:

  • Hecerion often gets pronounced 'heh-keh-ree-uhn', but it's actually 'he-seh-ree-uhn'.
  • IDK anybody brave enough to attempt pronouncing Dolysene's name ('doh-lih-see-eh-nuh'), and IC, she's like: "Just call me 'Lyse' (Lih-suh), it's easier to remember."
 YeonTae & YeonJin A-B-A

People always call them "Kim" since is in the front of their names but is actually their surname

Also people pronunce their names wrong so i just make people to call them by their alt names

(My enlgish went ⬊⬊⬊⬊)

wormgirl Splattermouth

dfgh not gonna lie, i end up making most of my ocs names pretty simple, mostly because of dyslexia, so its kinda hard to mess em up orz

people do tend to get bec and wormgirls pronouns messed up a lot tho, but it's just funny imo. i kinda designed both of them with the intent to confuse ppl lol
ive just kinda made it a joke now that wormgirl always introduces himself as (not a girl)

🐊Charlie Roughscale👓 ♕ VincentTheServal

Everyone tends to call her a boy :(

 Asutoraru Wilby-Chan

I've never had anyone pronounce my character's names but I'm guessing Asutoraru's would be hard.

$20 damascus

So many of my trans and gnc ocs get misgendered 😔 as for names, Sigourney Alice goes by Sigourney Alice ONLY, and no one seems to get that. Everyone wants to call her just Sigourney or just Alice.

 🌘 "Nox" Airelle Nefere

A lot of friends say his name as Arielle (like the mermaid), and most people seem to think he uses they/them pronouns. Even during games, other characters seem to be confused about his gender, like one character who went "sir...? uh...ma'am???" which doesn't bother me that much, but I still think it's kinda odd? As in "huh, where did that come from?"
