Sangre Mar

History

During the year 1215, tension in Siregal came to an all-time high. After half a century of rebellion against the monarchy by its mages, civil war broke out. Large groups of rebels did not always agree with the details of their goals, and rebel factions broke off.

Sangre Mar was created by the young and angry Enn Marren'Vik, bastard to the royal house. Fresh from Namarast, Enn was ready to start taking matters into his own hands when it came to the disparities in Siregal. He did not agree with the softer factions who wanted to work together with the Royals, to keep later unrest at a minimum.

Together with likeminded people the group came together. Sangre Mar was made out of mages, mercenaries, but also common folk who didn't want to live under the rule of the monarchy anymore, or who had known proverty for too long.

In posession of a potion of sorts that buffed mages their power for brief periods of time, Sangre Mar became most notorious for their quick sweeps of battlefields before retreating. In the background they supplied other groups with these potions as well, and stepped out of the way of groups who were perhaps more violent than they themselves were. Never stopped anyone who aligned with their own goals, no matter the style of achieving them.

With his knowledge on the property the royals lived on, Enn was able to assist with the storming of the castle before the rebels declared themselves victorious, and the installment of the magocracy took place. The royals themselves where nowhere to be found.


For many, this was enough. But with a small group Enn set out, knowing very well where the royal family would be hiding. Their bodies would be found weeks after Sangre Mar had left the area, and eventually Siregal, behind.

Now, Sangre Mar has resurfaced in Ivras, where a similar kind of unrest is stirring as all those years ago in Siregal. So far, Sangre Mar is rebuilding, having located themselves near the harbour in Faline. Most of their activity revolves around assisting mages in hiding, weaponizing these mages, and theft and blackmail of the nobility in Ivras.

Goals

- Bring back freedom to the mages, main outward goal
- Bring actual power to mages, install a similar system as in Siregal (Magocracy)
- Corruption is a product of the oppression of mages, Enn's intention is to look at the source of the problem, to work on fixing it instead of all-over surpression of mages
- Remove the wealth disparity
- Remove the monarchy
- Remove power from the Order, make it an institute for knowledge and not a camp
- Remove the Archon, put power with a chosen group of people, Order has be in service to the mages

The Mar

The Mar is the name of the generalized area in which Sangre Mar houses themselves. This is also where Enn's base, the Red Slipper is located.

This area is located on the outskirts of Faline on the side of the harbour, and is mostly hidden by the large buildings it's built behind. The Mar's housing is tall rather than wide, small rooms and lots of stairs. Most if not all of the buildings are made completely out of a dark yellow stone, made murky by the lack of light in the area, and the dust settled upon the environment.

Besides the buildings being mostly thin and tall, the streets themselves too are often narrow alleyways paired with stairs leading to new areas. It is a poorly lit maze, and a nightmare to get lost in.

The residents of the Mar are mostly mages, and those who are not are at least on their side. These mages keep the area safe, the water running, and provide each other with their various magics. The Mar is a big team effort held together by Sangre Mar, the group surviving off of the resources the area gives them.

Enn is The Mar's debtor and landlord, and while his fist is not an iron one, he keeps a keen eye on those living in his properties. Anyone posing a possible risk to the operation is swiftly dealth with, and Enn is not one known for his mercy.


Not all people living in the Mar are also Sangre Mar members, but Sangre Mar provides for them. Anyone who needs the help can get it, without necessarily needing to help the Sangre Mar on their missons.

The Red Slipper

A bar and small gambling hall, The Red Slipper is the main base of operation for Sangre Mar. Most often, Enn can be found here, together with a few of his closest hands. Like the rest of the buildings in the Mar, The Red Slipper is a high and deep building rather than wide, which only makes it darker the deeper inside you go.

It is a mix of card games and meetings between higher-ups, missions and plans being discussed in the open. The Slipper swallows any newcomer up into its midst, turns them inside-out before letting go again. There is too much in the open for there not to be trust, and Sangre Mar makes very sure anyone setting foot inside is reliable. Any new face usually is set to meet up with Enn in his office on the floor above, only to be reached through a dark, narrow staircase hidden in the back of the building. In the office, the actual missions get discussed, plans laid out for ears Enn carefully picks out to hear them.

Timeline

Year 1215

  • War in Siregal

    In the year 1215, civil war broke out in Siregal. Various groups organize in an effort to get mages to work together in a combined effort, Sangre Mar being one of them. At first, Sangre Mar isn't much to write home about, led by a young but loud man who's magic is either non-existent, or entirely random. It does not take long for the group to gain notority once the gossip of him being a royal bastard slips out of the group, followed by the group making quick grounds and getting known for their ruthlessness. Enn gathers larger support, and the Sangre Mar becomes a well recognized enemy of the crown.

Year 1225

  • End of the civil war

    In the year 1225, the civil war ends, but not before Enn leads his people to the isolated summer house he knows the royals are hiding in. Only the Sangre Mar members who he knows share his ultimate goal join him in massacring the family. The event is never spoken of again, but when the group returns to the palace, the newly instated magocracy urges Enn and his group to leave Siregal behind.

Year 1229

  • Resurge in Ivras

    Slowly word gets out of a resurge in Ivras, where a very recognizeable set of events takes place to push Ivras in a similar direction to Siregal. Unhappy with the newly instated Archon, Enn returns to a loud, anti-monarchy presence, using the gains from the Siregal war to slowly buy up one corner of Faline housing near the harbour. Here he sets up a safe space for mages, keeping them out of the Order and Namarast. Plenty of them join the Sangre Mar as well, expanding the group after it's slimming from the move away from Siregal.

Year 1234

  • Current time

    Currently, Sangre Mar houses mages on the run from the Order, and slowly grows as Enn gathers more people to join them. Outwardly very focussed on taking the Order down a peg, inwardly, it is still very anti-monarchy and anti-royalty in general.

Members


Many members of Sangre Mar play specific roles, and can have wildly varying backgrounds. Anyone disagreeing with the Order, the King, or anyone unhappy with life under the rule of royals in general may get sought out and invited to the Slipper by Enn.

Besides mages, Sangre Mar knows many non-mages, and they may find themselves just as welcome. Some have mages in their family, others have grown up poor and want that to change. Enn only cares about loyalty, and everyone is able to play a role. Magic or no magic.

The man organizing Sangre Mar, an avid gambler and secret powerhouse of a mage. With his ever-changing magic and secretive disposition, Enn is a mystery to many of his members. Charismatic and strict, Enn makes sure the people he employs are loyal, and have their noses in the same direction he does. Being able to trust everyone, and have everyone trust him in return, is a very important part of his day-to-day.

Enn's shadow, and number 1 assassin. Crossing Enn might provide fatal when Swan is in the game. Impossible to kill and incredibly loyal, and a wildcard in his own right. Enn keeps him close, partially for his loyalty, partially to copy his magic and gain his invincibility.

Osin Kenyekheri - Second in command

Second in command at the Sangre Mar, a tall man who usually keeps his words to himself. Non-mage, and one of the people accompanying Enn during the killing of the Siregal royals. Knows everything going on within the walls of the Mar, and is the ever constant voice of reason. Knows very well how to steer Enn out of his more risky ideas, but has not yet figured out how to stop Enn from always doing the dangerous things himself. (Profile a WIP)

One of Enn's bodyguards, a non-mage who sides with Sangre Mar's ideals. Friar is an intimidating presence who has stayed with Enn since Siregal, and is thusly one of Enn's most trusted companions.

Jelena is Enn's all-rounder who takes care of cleaning, small clothing repairs, and winning card games for Enn. Tends to let her sit in for him when he gets called out of a game, which somehow tends to result in more wins than when he plays himself.

Are you involved with the Order, nobles, or royalty in general, and regretting the choices that brought you there? How about you tell us what these people are up to, and how we can foil them. Steal some jewelry and stuff. Don't worry though, we won't involve your name in the mix.

We don't expect everyone to have magic, and so we need weapons. Some mages need weapons too. Are you able to make weapons, and would you be happy to provide for the freedom of Mages? This might be where you are most needed!
