Listen to the song from the user above you!

Posted 7 years, 1 month ago (Edited 6 years, 5 months ago) by Aikaikaik

Heya! Figured I'd start up a thread like this as I abolsutely love finding various music, and noticed there isn't a thread for this here yet! Plus, thinking on it, a good few of my OCs are inspired by some songs and music in general, and it never hurts to be on the hunt for more music to check out!

Basic Rules:

1. The person above you will link you a song to listen to!

2. Give your thoughts on it - is it something you liked, or is it just not your cup of tea? Did it inspire you to make an OC on the fly? Feel free to express this as much or as little as you want! (Please be respectful and civil in your reply, though.)

3. In the same post, link a song for the next person to listen to!

[edit] 4. If you're next in line, please claim before going ahead; I totally missed out due to IRL things going on, I realize some people might of been Ninja'd! So let's try to avoid being ninja'd from now on <:"D

EDIT; PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING: Heya! I've gotten a few concerns from people that go through this thread that some may of been a bit disrespectful about one's tastes in music. Music is something it's obvious not everyone is going to like the same thing, but I must remind you to PLEASE, be respectful to the person above you when having shared music. If it isn't your thing, please be kind and simply say "It wasn't my cup of tea, sorry. I'm glad you like it though!" or something nice along those lines. Having someone be told the song you chose (which might even mean a lot to you on your own terms and reasons behind it) is horrible or nasty, can be a bit rude. Let's do our best to keep polite and civil here while we all jam out to some awesome tunes! Thanks!

All good? Let's get started! I'll link over a song for the first person to start things off!

First song: The Maddest Kind of Love, by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy

Not the kind of music I'd listen to but there's something about it (Dandelion) that makes me really sad :<

Time to Make History - Persona 4 Golden OST (it's a battle theme btw)

Dude, that some Phantom of the Opera stufff the first time I heard it. Love the single piano chord or riff, along with the sinister flow and the burning oil barrel carved like a pumpkin. I like it and prolly will heard it. I noticed that the video is from Sub Pop Record which is a grunge and alt rock record label.

For NP: Here's a unofficial soundtrack for The Kids Are Alright which is a high school sitcom I was working on. Apparently most of the song has a high school vibes on it and you don't have to listen all of them, just pick one is enough tho you're welcome to listen anything.

VVV YOU AGAIN? HOW MANY TIMES YOU LISTEN TO THIS PLAYLIST??a!??!?! You really don't want others listen to my playlist huh?

Went with the first one! I think I may have picked a song from yours in the past, but I always love getting recommendations and listening to what you have listed. It's not a common genre, but boy does it remind me of being a kid, and visiting my great-grandparents.

Anyways! For this song. That's one hell of a banjo player. His solo was amazing, it really caught me off guard but boy was it fun. It's certainly the kind of song that I can't just listen to and keep still. I couldn't help but nod my head along. Just great instrumentation throughout, and the vocals were great! I'm not much of a country fan, so sometimes that southern drawl singers get while they sing puts me off, but it works really well for this song and I appreciate it!

Finally, I just gotta say, that live music is just the best, and I love that you linked a version to song played in a concert. There's just a different kind of energy and even though this was a song I watched on my computer, it was still cool!

Glass Animals - Agnes I have a lot, and I mean a lot, of feelings about this song and the music video. If you can find the info about the making of the music video, I find it very fascinating. I will slap a slight CW for Suicide/Drug Abuse if you go digging about the song. The meaning of the song is still being speculated but I do want people to be safe!^^

Elsiikun

Whoa, that was indeed a wild ride of a song (literally, after seeing the backstory of the music video aha). What I like about this song is how much it sort of sounds like very bizarre and surreal lullaby, with how the drum beats go and the weird dreamy-like ambiance and synth keys(?). At the same time it also gives me a feeling of saying farewell to someone. That weird combo of two emotions mixing together just makes such a wild ride of a song tackling such a dark topic, added more to the feeling of "ascending" as the song reaches the near ending.

The music video also adds up to the emotion and themes of the song. I love the artistic choice of not only giving it an ascending feeling (being in some pilot training chamber thing) as well as the claustrophobic feel of just a tight box camera view.

Overall I quite like it. And heys stay safe to you too owo )/

Gideon - "LIFE WITHOUT" (3:32) A slight volume warning due to screamed vocals and heavy guitars (though it's more groovy than it is outright heavy). Also maybe a slight CW due to alluding to life/mental issues (least how I see it, though the lyrics aren't too direct with them).

NockeyNoo

that screamed technique vocals over soft beat is always interesting fusion, when i listen to this song, i imagine the main vocalist wants to sing growlingly, but then he screams in fear seeing the cockroach as the music starts

the music is quite different from what i usually listen to, at least the music sounds passable, although it's far away from my vibe

ŠOK by ŠTORMAS (Lithuanian cover ver. of "Nuit de folie" by Début de Soirée)

Although country isn't my taste, this one is actually good. For those who say that "country is bad", it's because people haven't seen beyond the "top 40" ones. There's always a gem in the horde of each genre. The music itself is danceable enough, upbeat, and jumpy as if you are hopping around in circles with your friends. One thing that stands out is the solo at the near end, just by using an acoustic guitar. When you hear "guitar solos", it's usually soaring and epic electric guitar sounds but this one was using acoustic guitars so it's fascinating. I already imagine this one being played in both pubs and country themed parties.

Some song choices:
December Flowers - Twisting and Turning (goth/postpunk CW: the lyrics is a bit gory), alternatively, you can go with Soliloquy instead by the same band
Babylonian Tiles - Rain People (psychedelic goth rock, the song intro is long. The one linked, I skipped it through the start of the song around 3:00)
Lehetsz Király, a song from the musical, Rómeó és Júlia, a hungarian adaptation of the musical "Romeo et Juliette".
3Teeth - Atrophy (industrial metal)

Cheese_Ferret

Twisting and turning: The cherry on top of this track is the ambient grainy noise and echoing guitars. The lyrics also are so rich in depth and tone, just....oh my godddddd

Babylonian Tiles- Rain People: I was immediately entranced by the synth and vocals in this song! It's goth at its core but the instruments are so interesting and plucky in contrast to other goth songs I've heard!

3Teeth- Atrophy: Love me some good ol' evil lair / slaughter house vibes haha. It reminds me of when Hot Topic used actually to play good songs. I'm also a sucker for the slightly underwater distortion on the vocals

Definitely adding these three songs to my playlists. (Not a big fan of musical songs, sorry)

NP: Feel free to pick and choose what you want to listen to! (Even though I HIGHLY recommend Lucy...)

Spectre by Radiohead  To the NP, I feel like you would like this if you like to pretend you're in an indie film in the fall in a small town solving a mystery

Breath of Life by Florence and the Machine The Backing Choir in This Song Oh My God. It makes me feel like a disgraced knight about to ride into battle...

Run2U by Stayc Because I'm a dirty smelly kpop stan

So What by Lucy Coming of age and anime opening vibes. But in all honesty, they are my favourite band,,,probably ever. And because I'm a dirty smelly kpop stan pt.2

BewareOfTheMenace

Spectre: THIS...is one of the most beautiful song I have ever heard from my favorite band. The strings orchestra, Thom's haunting voice, the basslines, and the drum, it's all perfection. I can't imagine myself being a detective solving a mystery in a indie film but I can sure that this song is so amazing to heard.

Run2U: This is such a bop. I don't understand Korean but the music is a banger too. The bouncy basslines and the electronic drum is very hard not to bobbing my head and bounce around.

So What: This song does give me fantasy coming-of-age slice-of-life anime. The indie rock ish style along with the orchestras is just awesome man.

NP: Here are some of my fav song at the moment

Seals & Crofts - Summer Breeze

Cowboys Aren't Indian - Late Night Dinner

Hala - What Is Love? Tell Me, Is It Easy?

Slum Village - The Look of Love

Everything but the Girl - Night and Day
