Listen to the song from the user above you!

Posted 7 years, 29 days ago (Edited 6 years, 4 months ago) by Aikaikaik

Heya! Figured I'd start up a thread like this as I abolsutely love finding various music, and noticed there isn't a thread for this here yet! Plus, thinking on it, a good few of my OCs are inspired by some songs and music in general, and it never hurts to be on the hunt for more music to check out!

Basic Rules:

1. The person above you will link you a song to listen to!

2. Give your thoughts on it - is it something you liked, or is it just not your cup of tea? Did it inspire you to make an OC on the fly? Feel free to express this as much or as little as you want! (Please be respectful and civil in your reply, though.)

3. In the same post, link a song for the next person to listen to!

[edit] 4. If you're next in line, please claim before going ahead; I totally missed out due to IRL things going on, I realize some people might of been Ninja'd! So let's try to avoid being ninja'd from now on <:"D

EDIT; PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING: Heya! I've gotten a few concerns from people that go through this thread that some may of been a bit disrespectful about one's tastes in music. Music is something it's obvious not everyone is going to like the same thing, but I must remind you to PLEASE, be respectful to the person above you when having shared music. If it isn't your thing, please be kind and simply say "It wasn't my cup of tea, sorry. I'm glad you like it though!" or something nice along those lines. Having someone be told the song you chose (which might even mean a lot to you on your own terms and reasons behind it) is horrible or nasty, can be a bit rude. Let's do our best to keep polite and civil here while we all jam out to some awesome tunes! Thanks!

All good? Let's get started! I'll link over a song for the first person to start things off!

First song: The Maddest Kind of Love, by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy

BewareOfTheMenace

OH BOY THIS IS FUNKY AND UPBEAT. The horns, the drums, the vibes around the song feels so danceable man I want to dance all day to this song. I had no idea about the lyrics but the beat is the jam!!! Good song always from you.

Alright next person, I'll give you a few selection from my fav so far

John Legend - Hello It's Me (beautiful cover of Todd Rungren's classic song)

Le Knight Club - Soul Bells (late 90s or early 2000s French house song...if you like repetitive music)

The Rubinoos - I Want To Be Your Boyfriend (cheesy power pop song that sounds like a outro for a slice of life high school animated series)

Weezer - You Gave Your Love To Me (loud alt rock song that again sounds like a outro for a high school show)

Sammy Davis Jr. - Candyman (My personal fav)

Foo Fighters - Monkey Wrench (upbeat alternative rock but the riff screams punk rock)

Junior Senior - Don't Stop the Beat (I'm pretty sure you have heard of this song from many movies like White Chicks or Looney Tunes: Back in Action)

MC Chris - I Need Candy (alternative hip-hop song about candy with some hidden message on it. It's a joke song from an Adult Swim show)

Eddie Peregrina - Memories of Our Dream (old Filipino 60s soul song and it's my grandpa fav)

De La Soul ft. Yummy - Much More (soulful rap from the same guys who sings in Feel Good Inc. by Gorillaz)

Mary Jane Girls - All Night Long (Smooth and funky R&B song that was featured in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City radio Fever 105)

P/S: Sorry, there are no folk songs, video game OSTs, emo or even death metal songs on this list so you gotta listen to some songs from a genre you're not familiar but I'll add them the next time I post again in this thread. Don't blame me, blame my music taste.

Went with Wobble! Just kinda typing as I listen here for the most part but it's caught my attention immediately! It's really hard for me to thing of words but this is jammy - really love how it sounds. Ohh that section around 55 seconds is STUNNING - almost sounds lyrical this is so cool. All the aspects of it play together so beautifully in my opinion.

Absolutely gonna save this / look into their other works for sure.

NP:  (just going off RYM genres - idfk what a genre is)

Big Fig Wasp - King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard (Psych / Garage Rock)

The March - The Dear Hunter (Prog / Indie Rock) (note: loud intro)

We Are Gods! We Are Wolves! - Le Loup (Psychedelic Folk)

dazey-the-goat

the intro gave me a whole jumpscare, but like it was also my fault for just jumping and not reading your note so snjsjssj. genuinely, i loved the whole song through! the instrumentals were really fun to listen here, and the lyrics remind me a bit about musical theatre! honestly this makes me realize i’ve haven’t hear many musicals with this sort of rock, which surprised me because i think that would’ve been cool. great song either way!

hiii these are just a few artists and songs here that i don’t think are talked about enough, pick any! some of these are the same artist but two different songs [exp: song1/song2 - artist], you can pick either :]

BewareOfTheMenace

Claim, might wanna listen to some of them instead of one

math by Lizzy Hilliard

Okay, this song reminds me a lot of Colbie Calliant because of her voice. I love Colbie Calliant  ya know. The lyrics sounds pretty melancholic and sad, which is ironic as the music itself is so soft and mellow. Love the lo-fi vibes going around the song, The backup vocals are amazing too. The song is overall bittersweet to me to listen.

Hunky Dory by Philip Labes

THIS SONG IS SO LIKE AWESOME WHA-- I love jazz music and his voice sounds soothing. Again, the lyrics are somewhat sad but I was more distracted to the jazzy music instead haha.

There's more. WIP

NP: Here are my current fav, enjoy.

Cowboys Aren't Indians - Late Night Dinner (midwest emo)

The Rubinoos - I Want To Be Your Boyfriend (power pop)

Saint Pepsi - Skylar Spence (vaporwave)

John Legend - Hello It's Me (Idk, piano ballad???)

Blackbyrds - Dreaming of You (jazz fusion)

Again, there are no folk or bluegrass, punk or heavy metal, alternative rock or death metal in this list so you gotta listen to some songs from a genre you're not into with. I am sorry.

But, if I have to, then here's one for you I guess.

Cajun Country Revival - You Won't Be Satisfied (zydeco)

Mudhoney - Suck You Dry (alternative rock)

Kings of Convenience - Rocky Trail (indie folk)

Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath (doom metal)

Death - Keep on Knocking (punk)

BewareOfTheMenace

I pick Forecast!

I don't know how is this jazz, it's just folk to me. Anyway, I love the violin part which is basically how most folks music are, along with the acoustic guitar twanging around. Then in 1:50, the song suddenly becomes slower and somewhat different where I can only heard the double bass only with the cymbals, which is cool in different pace. I know understand how is this jazz but still, the folk element is still in this song. To be honest, it kinda sounds like something you heard from a farming simulator game and I kinda love it.

Elsiikun

My pick is The Crane Wives - Empty Page

First off, the vibe as a whole. It gives me this snarky, sassy, yet very grim and sad feel to it, like the protagonist of this song is talking to someone with an air of "Ugh, I'm nothing new, I ain't special in comparison, why bother with me?". All their work, their efforts, whatever it is, it's all meh and nothing special. The lines "Every thought that I’ve ever had Could be ripped from a magazine" and "Years of imitating mastery Only made me a better thief" hits well with that kind of feel.

Love the instrumentals as well. I especially love the bass, that 'mysterious' kind of groove, and the lead guitar(?) as well and the notes/tone being slightly 'off' to sell that moody feel.

It's a really interesting song owo )b

=====

Sooo I don't have any other extra songs to share, I only have this one atm because good god, it's a crankin' epic one lmao. Best I could describe it is... country dad emo.

BILMURI - BETTER HELL (2:24)

Zombieloid

Bilmuri - Better Hell

Honestly, it really does give 'Country Dad Emo' vibes as it was said, sounds like the type of song I would have in the background while cleaning around my house or something, it was pretty enjoyable, the instrumental was cool, definitely the type of song I would love to vibe to while doing something as I said before, to the other people in this thread, give it a listen, it's pretty fun!

Not my usual style! But I can admit that it's quite stellar - her voice is stunning. Especially love the chorus it's such a standout. Really not much specific to note on, strong beat, strong vocals, and the lyrics when translated are quite nice :)

NP:
Nikee - Bang! Bang! Eche!
or
Beach Town - Le Loup

knokken

Listened to Nikee! Gotta say not a HUGE fan of the way the lead singer was singing, but that's a pretty small complaint, honestly. Overall liked it a lot, especially the melody and instrumentals, that is definitely the type of song I'd listen to on on daily basis, along with all my other favorite punk songs x) (Also the visuals were damn awesome!)

Now how about Necromancin Dancin ;)

v YESSSS YOU GET IT!! I 100% agree!
