Reunion (Kylandi)

She’s really here, Kyle thought to himself lamely. He had received the text that she was back, and with shaking fingers sent her the address of his new apartment, but actually seeing her in front of him, getting a whiff of her shampoo thanks to the outside breeze, was almost too much for him. He almost couldn’t believe she was really there.

Andi smiled and made a noise between a sigh and a laugh, then suddenly she was surging forward and her arms were wrapping around Kyle’s neck, hugging him so tightly the wind was knocked out of his chest. “Oh my god,” she muffled from his shoulder. “I missed you so much.”

She pulled out of the hug but before Kyle could say anything or ask her how her first semester at college was she pulled him into a kiss by the front of his shirt. This was not a tender kiss, like they show in the movies, but a kiss of passion, like they were trying to make up for the amount of time they lost together. Andi pressed against Kyle and he shut the door behind her as they headed for his bed, flopping down onto it without breaking their connected lips. It was all so overwhelming, seeing her, tasting her, hearing her soft breaths in his ear. When she broke away and opened her chocolate colored eyes Kyle found he couldn’t say anything, it was like she had stolen his breath and voice when she kissed him. Instead of speaking they smiled at each other. Andi shuffled so instead of laying on top of Kyle she was at his side, and she laid her head on his chest.

They didn’t need to speak. Just laying there together was enough for now, staring at Kyle’s unexciting walls and ceiling and just enjoying each others’ warmth. Kyle was about to fall asleep when Andi shuffled and grabbed his hand across his stomach. He locked his fingers with hers and sighed contentedly.

“I missed you too,” he finally said. “How’s college?”

“Hard.”

“Have you made a lot of friends?”

“Some. I mostly just study, though.”

“Because you’re a nerd.”

Andi picked her head up and looked at him, her face scrunched up in a frown. “You’re mean to me,” she said matter-of-factly, and then laid her head back down.

“I do it with affection,” Kyle assures her.

There was a moment of silence. Then, “Kyle?”

“Yeah?”

Andi lifted up her head again and shifted her weight onto her left arm so she could get a better look at him. “I’m sorry for being so ambiguous about… well, us. I had a lot of shit going on in my head after Landyn and I knew that I needed to focus on school, at least until I got my thoughts straight.”

“I understand,” was all Kyle could say. He was waiting for her to tell him that she made a mistake, and they should probably just remain friends so that she could focus on her degree, that he was just a rebound, that they should have never slept together or kissed in the first place.

“Kyle, I think I’m in love with you.”

He knitted his eyebrows, not sure how to respond. “You… think?” He finally said.

She sighed and looked up at the ceiling. “I know I am. I think I always have been.” She wasn’t looking at him anymore, instead opting to look up at the ceiling. Kyle used one arm to pull her down to him and connect their lips in a softer kiss than the one she had greeted him with.

“I think I’m in love with you too,” he said when they parted.

“I know,” Andi said.

“Wow, okay.”

Andi just laughed in response, and kissed him again. “I won’t be able to see you much while I’m in school, but… we can try and make this work, if you want.”

“I’d like that,” Kyle breathed, pulling her back to him once more.
