Kyle’s Musings

Kyle blinked, his eyes dry. He had been staring at the same spot for who knows how long, thinking what if, what if. He could be a normal person right now if he hadn't made that stupid choice. He felt like such an idiot. But then, would he and Andi have ever gotten anywhere if that wouldn't have happened? He had no way of knowing.

"Kyle?" Skye called. The blue-haired boy looked up at him. Skye was sitting at the table, his iPad face-up and glowing with the "Level Completed" screen of Candy Crush. Kyle had to resist snorting at how ridiculous Skye could be sometimes. He didn't seem so ridiculous right now though, he seemed confused. "Are you okay?" He asked. "You haven't blinked for like five minutes." One of his long red braids was folded slightly on the table, the other one running about midway down his back. Kyle wondered why he didn't just cut his damn hair.

"Yeah, whatever," Kyle grumbled in response, laying his chin in his hand and averting his eyes. He didn't consider Skye and himself to be friends, but they weren't enemies either since they had to work together and typically hung out together, along with Maximus.

Joining the gang wasn't something Kyle necessarily regretted. The things they stole they got a cut of the profit from, and it gave him something to do. He typically didn't have to kill anyone, although he wouldn't mind if he did. He did, however, regret letting them screw around with his DNA. Almost everyone in the gang had had their DNA altered in some way with the exception of Carmelo, their boss. It was his way of trying to make the gang stronger since nobody was over the age of 25. In a way that was a good thing; everyone was able-bodied and easily influenced.

Skye continued to look at him for a moment, a light frown on his face. He finally turned away and continued his game, resting the side of his head on his hand, his elbow on the table. Kyle was glad he finally left him alone. He wasn't the kind of person that liked to talk to anybody, especially Skye. The redhead could hardly take anything seriously. He nearly drove Kyle up the wall with his constant Candy Crush and SnapCrack or whatever the hell it was called; Kyle didn't care.

Eventually he sat back in the crappy chair that he was sitting in, crossing his arms over his chest with a huff. He wondered for the millionth time where Andi had gone. She was part of the gang for all of three days, then left without even telling Kyle she was going to do so. Carmelo immediately suspected he was in on it, of course, it was exactly something Carmelo would do. Kyle wished he knew where she had gone. He didn't see how she could do much of anything in secret, what with her blue skin and extra set of eyes.

He let out a shaky breath. It was no use worrying about her now. She wasn't helpless, she could find a way to take care of herself, and he knew that. She was really the only person in the world he still cared about, bough, so he couldn't help but he anxious about her well being.

"I'm going home," he finally said in a low voice. He didn't really want to be here anymore. Otto wasn't here, and he was pretty much the only person in the entire damn gang that he could stand to be around, mostly because he hardly said a word. He was the complete opposite of Skye.

"'Kay," Skye said without looking up from his iPad. He swiftly slid his finger to make combos and the word "Tasty" drifted from the iPad in a smooth voice. He once again cleared the level. Kyle had no idea what level he was on; he played so much that he was probably closer to the end of the game than anybody else. Kyle found it more pathetic than cool.

He pushed the door open and walked through the alley, which formed a sort of hallway. Their hideout had been a pub at some point, but now it took on the appearance of a run-down back door and people typically stayed away from it. They didn't spend much time inside; it was almost like a rec room where they waited around for orders. Kyle had no clue of the location of Carmelo's office or where Brett and Quincy were since he had been under such heavy sedation he had no recollection at all of the entire day that led up to that stupid decision.

It wasn't all bad, he mused as he walked down the street, his hands in his pockets. He had useful abilities now, and he was stronger than he has ever been in his life. The sharp teeth were sort of nice, too, and he was glad they didn't constantly fall out and grow back in like he knew real sharks' teeth did. The asthma that came with it sucked, though. He was mildly asthmatic before, but he hadn't had an actual asthma attack since he was seven. After the transformation, the had them nearly every month. The effects of having your DNA crossed with an aquatic animal.
