The Scryers

Whispers and rumors abound about this group. Some call them hardened criminals; others, business partners. Whatever the case, the Scryers are well-organized and extremely skilled warriors and mages - or at least, the ones seen so far are. Nobody really knows their goals or intentions, and most of what is known about them is honestly more rumor than fact. So far the kingdom has dismissed them as nothing more than a somewhat alarmingly large group of bandits, but if you listen to the criminal underground and linger in the black market, it seems to be another story. They’re too well trained, in stealth and in battle, to just be bandits. Bandits don’t have uniforms. Bandits don’t have the coin to purchase some of the illegal goods they do. And bandits most certainly don’t evade the law for this long. Not this smoothly.

Scryers are seemingly either genial or hostile at random, and many an individual has fallen afoul of them. Lately, they’ve been spotted around Labyrinths more often, prompting investigation from the knights, as well as too-curious-for-their-own-good maze-runners.

As it turns out, the Scryers were actually aware all along that Yverre wasn’t actually dead, as their organization was formed from one of the knights in Queen Bryne's service. As a result, the Scryers are sworn to do whatever it takes in order to keep her sealed, no matter how unsavory. This includes attacking archeological dig sites, assassinations, spying on people of interest, etc. Their one and only line is that they won't ever touch the royal family, and will actively go out of their way to protect them should it be needed, for obvious reasons. They consider themselves in service to the king from the shadows, and are responsible for stopping many assassination and kidnapping attempts before they were even known to the royal family and guard. The Scryers can't be everywhere though, nor is every mission of theirs a success, and eventually, some things slip through the cracks. When Yverre was accidentally freed they were just as determined to seal her away again as Lute and his friends, and the two groups allied specifically for this purpose. When the Mother of Blight was finally killed, the Scryers disbanded, their purpose done.
