Injury, Sickness, and Death

Incandelons are not exactly physical beings, and they are unlikely to become physically hurt or catch the common cold. However, they can become sick, injured or even die, if something happens to the soul inside the Incandelon body. Additionally, an incandelon’s life may be threatened if they experience severe damage to their mask or lantern.

Occasionally, an Incandelon will become lethargic and their powers will be weakened. This is likely to happen if they overwork themselves, or are in a very bad mental state for a very long time. They must rest before they can do their psychopomp duties again, and will not be punished for taking time off. Incandelons do not die from this kind of illness.

Incandelons won’t get hurt if they fall or bump into something, or if attacked by human weapons, but they can sustain injuries to their body, or even be killed, if attacked by another Incandelon or other spirit. If an Incandelon’s soul becomes too seriously wounded, they will cease to exist, and won’t even go to the afterlife.

If an Incandelon chooses to retire, they can “naturally” die, giving up their body and just becoming a soul again. The mask is left behind, and the soul is led to the afterlife. Incandelons have no set lifespan, and many never choose to move on.
