Hello all! We just wanted to put out a small series of updates and notes.
Firstly:
DipperPines is no longer on the Charmie mod team. The current moderator team consists of Dracononite and qhostbyrd. We don't currently have plans to take on more moderators, but may do so in the future.
Secondly:
Charmies started out as a character and a concept, and unexpectedly gained a lot of traction very quickly. But they were always intended to be a small species! The mods are still invested in the species but lead busy lives and don't have the time or energy to manage a community space the way a large species can.
This is why there haven't been many events or updates recently - sorry about that! We know there are many of you that have been asking about guest artist opportunities for Charmies, and while we'd love to put out applications in the future for some guest artist events, we can't give an estimate of when that would be.
We have been working on some stuff in the background that we're looking forward to putting out... eventually! We know we've been promising a new "species sheet" for a long while but again, this species is mostly a side project. Thank you for all the continued interest in Charmies regardless! We love seeing all the new characters that are constantly submitted to the Toyhouse World.
Thirdly:
It's recently come to our attention that some users online have been very negative toward Charmies and confusing Charmies as being a closed species. While they were initially a closed species, they were re-launched as an open species over a year ago. Everyone is free to make Charmie characters of their own, and the only restriction is that adoptables are a mod-only privilege. I've seen some people take offense to this restriction.
I have the right to not want others freely profiting off of the species name that I made. However, never have I claimed that the design concept of Charmies - putting items inside of toy-like characters - is something that I came up with first, nor intend to copyright or exclusively own. I have never felt a sense of ownership or jealousy over this particular design concept, and love seeing similar toy-like designs. Taking inspiration from Charmies is perfectly fine, as is reselling and trading Charmie characters at one's reasonable discretion.
The only thing I don't want people doing is using the Charmie species name and exact design traits (glass bottom, deco, cheek markings, magical charm) for intentional profit or in a way that goes against my TOS or the species guidelines. Of course, I can't stop every instance of this happening, outside of DMCAs in the most extreme of instances, and I accept that - in the end, it's all about people choosing to respect me as an artist and creator.
I figured I should clarify this all, due to the misinformation being shared online about Charmies. Thank you for listening!

It's been a while since we've had a fun event! Summer is in full swing, the weather is hot and sunny and the beach and ocean waves are inviting. Are your Charmies enjoying the season?
Participating in this event earns you the Summer Fun sticker!
"A waterproof vinyl sticker featuring a colorful depiction of a fun summer activity: surfing! A red surfboard, deep blue waves, the bright sunshine, and the warm sands. Awarded to Charmies who enjoyed the hot weather of the August 2022 Summer Fun event!"
HOW TO PARTICIPATE
- Draw a Charmie character (either your own Charmie, or gift art of someone else's Charmie) enjoying summer or doing fun summer activities! Bug-catching, swimming, sandcastle-building, tie-dying shirts, etc.
- If you're okay with gift art of any of your Charmie characters, just comment their reference (or Toyhouse link) as a reply to the ⭐️ SUBMIT CHARMIES HERE FOR GIFT ART ⭐️ comment below!
- Artists who are looking to do gift art to earn the event sticker can choose from any submitted Charmies - try to choose those that haven't received art yet, and be mindful of important design or character details if the owner shares any!
ART GUIDELINES & SUBMITTING
- Any submitted art must be fully colored and at least somewhat clean. Cleaned up sketches, lined pieces, paintings, etc. are all okay. Busts/headshots, halfbodies, fullbodies are all accepted as long as the art has a distinct summer vibe!
- To submit the art to the DA Group, you can upload the piece onto DeviantArt and submit it to the Events and Art Prompts gallery folder!
- To share the art on the Toyhouse World, you can upload the piece to your Charmie's Toyhouse gallery, and share it on the Summer Fun Art Prompt bulletin!
- Once you've submitted or shared the art on either the DA Group or Toyhouse World, you can claim the sticker! Stickers can be displayed on your Charmies' profiles, refs, etc.
Remember to share the love! Commenting, favoriting, and following is a great way to encourage artists and show your appreciation for art styles and character designs.
All stickers can be earned retroactively!
There is no deadline for art prompt events! You can always revisit older events to make art of your Charmies and win stickers for them as long as you follow the rules.

⭐ Welcome... to the official re-launch of Charmies! ⭐
After a long time discussing and considering Charmies as a species, the mod team has agreed that we'd like to make the species completely open!
This is a very exciting announcement, but it's a big change, so here are some reasons we have for re-launching the species like this:
- Moderating MYOs and the masterlist has become overwhelming with our small mod team
- We want to shift our focus entirely to making adopts, holding fun events, and designing more prizes for you all to earn
- We want the groups to be more active, and see more fun Charmie designs
- Many closed species get a bad reputation for making immoral financial decisions or being exclusive clubs, and we don't want that to happen

What does this mean for the species, MYOs, and adoptables?
Charmies are now completely free for anyone to make, whenever they'd like! You do not have to be a part of the Toyhouse world or Deviantart group to own a Charmie. Other than that, you are free to create Charmie characters for yourself and friends as gifts or trades! We know that a lot of you have been eagerly awaiting a new MYO opening and have held back your Charmie designs, so let the floodgates open wide!
You may still sell, trade, and gift Charmies at your discretion. You may also still create merchandise of your Charmie characters if you wish!
The only exception to making Charmies is that we'd like to enforce adoptables and custom Charmies as a moderator and guest artist privilege.
The status of open species also means that the traits of Charmies are no longer restricted, other than some required features. Here is a list of the trait changes that are coming along with the relaunch:
- There are no more categories or limits on the amount of deco (items) you can put in your Charmie! There are of course restrictions on what you can put inside of a Charmie, such as realistic gore or anything that goes against our Rules & Guidelines.
- A Charmie can be anthro, quad, centaur, mermaid, whatever! They are not required to have an anthro form, and can switch between multiple forms at will if desired, as long as they have a Charm that lets them transform and do magic!
- Charmies can be designed as alternate forms to an existing character, and can have alternate palettes, charms, deco items, etc
- A Charmie's Charm (if they have one - it's optional) may be anywhere on the body as long as it's a distinct item or addition to the design and not a marking. These are still commonly on the chest or end of the tail, but now they can be in the tummy, on the forehead, worn as an accessory, etc!
- Large cheek markings are still the only required marking for a Charmie to have. These can be any shape and color as long as they are defined and identifiable!
What does this update mean for the masterlist?
In a few weeks' time, we will be deleting all Charmie masterlist entries that have been submitted to the masterlist account.
The mod accounts will remain for moderation purposes! The DeviantArt moderation account will continue to be an archive of stickers and badges. Traitlists featured on all masterlist entries are now defunct, however if you'd like to check recorded information, download files, or see what stickers and badges your Charmie has earned, you can do so by visiting your Charmies' masterlist entries.
What about stickers, badges, and group events?
We'd love to continue designing and offering stickers and badges as rewards for events, community milestones and completing art prompts! The showcases for these designs will remain for members to browse and see what ones they can earn (or have earned) to display on their Charmies' profiles or on their Charmies as accessories. It's not necessary to retain a showcase of what stickers and badges your Charmie has earned, however it is a fun little thing that encourages more art of Charmies and interaction within the community!
There will be plenty of events and art prompts in the future, especially now that we will have much more time focusing on fun stuff rather than moderating a masterlist and MYO openings. Be aware that the moderators for the species are all busy people with lives, so whatever events we do come up with will be smaller and simply for fun!
Thank you all so much for the support you've given Charmies as a species. I hope this re-launch will let everyone focus on Charmies as a fun species and safe groups first and foremost, with lots of freedom and joy to be had with all the character possibilities. Enjoy!
Hi all, just wanted to step in and let you know that we are working on a HUGE update for Charmies that we're sure pretty much everyone will be happy about! The groups and pages will be undergoing some heavy changes so please don't panic if things are changing around or links get broken. Once everything is updated we will be making the big announcement! We aim to do this big update before the end of October, and once we get that done we will catch up with DMs and submissions to tidy things up. Again, sorry for being quiet on here, and I hope you guys are excited!
Hey everyone!! Some more badges have been designed and awarded to some select Charmies! Owners of these Charmies have been DM'd to notify them of the new prizes they've gotten.
We've put together showcases on both Toyhouse and DeviantArt to catalogue all badges and stickers from here on out!
These include descriptions on what you can do with them and how you can obtain them!
Some are special and cannot be transferred alongside Charmies or are no longer available. Future prizes will either be limited-time (such as special events) or available for you to earn whenever (such as art prompts)!
We also have some more fun ideas for prizes that we're working on putting together... 🦆

This June, we're holding our first ever art prompt event for the Charmie community! It's time to celebrate each and every one of us for who we are and who we love! For this and future art prompts, the guidelines are simple: draw art featuring Charmies that follow the rules of the specific prompt, and you'll earn the corresponding sticker!
Participating in this prompt will earn you this gorgeous "Heart of Pride" sticker featuring the progress pride flag, designed by our wonderful mod DipperPines! For any Charmie included in submitted art pieces that are approved, they will earn this sticker which will be displayed on their masterlist entry!
🌈RULES🌈
1 - Draw or write about a Charmie character celebrating pride month!
❤️ The art must be AT LEAST colored! It doesn't have to be completely clean, but it must not be very rough or sketchy.
💛 The art must feature AT LEAST a headshot view of the Charmie! Headshots, icons, busts, halfbodies, and fullbodies are all allowed.
💚 A pride flag MUST be included somewhere in the piece. Progress, ally, rainbow, trans, nonbinary, lesbian, pan, bi, ace, aro, queer, etc. are all accepted!
💙 We will also accept written submissions for all art prompts! Written submissions for this prompt must include celebration of the character's LGBTQ+ orientation or identity.
💜 The character can be yours, or you can ask others to do gift art if you'd like to draw other peoples' Charmies! The Charmies that win the sticker are the ones that are included in the submission.
Note: We will not accept pieces that feature flags that are hateful, discriminatory, immoral, exclusionist, or mean-spirited in nature. This includes straight pride flags (ally flags are fine), p*do/MAP flags, zoo flags, etc. Those who submit pieces featuring these and similar flags will be at least given a warning or strike, or will be immediately blacklisted from the species, depending on the severity.
2 - Submit the art to the DA Event and Art Prompts folder, or to this TH bulletin!
❤️ Upload the piece onto DeviantArt and submit it to this gallery folder!
💛 OR: upload the piece to your Charmie's Toyhouse, and share it on this bulletin!
💚 In the description, remember to include the links to the masterlist entries of the Charmies featured in the art! This way we can find them and award stickers much easier!
💙 Once submitted, we'll look over the art. If approved, we'll accept the art into the gallery and award the stickers to the Charmies, and comment on the piece to let you know! If denied, we'll reach out to you with a DM on what you can do to fix the submission.
3 - Celebrate pride and spread the love!
❤️ This isn't necessary to win the sticker, but what better way to spread love during this pride month than complimenting everyone else's art and giving people some follows?
💛 Check out all the wonderful artists who submit art during this event!
💚 Comment on their pages or submissions and let them know what you love about their art!
💙 Maybe give them a watch on DA, or follow them elsewhere!

If your Charmie has been approved, you can head over to the event journal and link a post sharing your Charmie in the comments to earn that design a Silver Lining Badge!
The deadline to claim badges is tonight, May 15th, at 10 PM EST.

MYOs are now CLOSED! Any submissions after the time this journal is posted will be denied! (This doesn't count re-submissions! If you were DM'd for edits or changes then your re-submission will be processed.) They were supposed to close about 45 ish minutes ago but I woke up late haha. Thanks SO SO MUCH for making so many delightful Charmies! I'll be going through submissions bit by bit and working from the oldest ones, I'm sorry in advance for any wait ;w;/
I don't have a planned date for when MYOs open again, but it shouldn't be too far in the future! I'd love to open them again this summer for a big summertime event... but we'll see!
