Zariel

zariel is what’s called an old testament angel, a more ancient type. as such, zariel has been around the longest of all current herders, and will likely continue to guard the ziz for centuries to come. zariel guides the colossal bird through the skies, only resting periodically on the highest mountain tops, far above the clouds. zariel has no complaints about such an isolated existence — they were deployed for this purpose, after all, and angels such as them have little need nor desire for much else than their duty. zariel has the impressive ability to control the weather, and uses it to create clouds to conceal the ziz, or direct the winds to ease the beast’s flight. 

zariel is an enigma, if not hardly a person at all. they are hardly ever seen by mortal people, and if they are, they leave behind local myths of near biblical proportions. they speak all known mortal languages, but unlike other angels, are not at all expected to interact or observe communities of worshippers. their purpose is much more grand: to herd one of the colossal beasts, and prevent them from engaging in a catastrophic war. but truly, it’s all in a day’s work for this strange being. zariel pays people little mind, and isn’t personable at all, to be quite honest. much like the other herders, a life of solitude got the better of them, but luckily for them, they don’t care at all.
