Profile

“I am not disappointed that Sigrid has surpassed me in skill. It is my greatest honor.”

Quiet and unassuming, Gemma usually goes unnoticed. She spends most of her time away from others, solving complex math problems or programming into the early hours of the morning. She thinks of the world in terms of numbers and figures, often failing to grasp emotions as a result. That makes socializing difficult, and she prefers to hang out with a few close friends. But perhaps even more impressive than her raw skill is her ability to explain concepts to others. Using anything from simple terminology to expert-level jargon, she breaks the most complex subjects into simple principles. That makes her an ideal mentor and teacher, though her tendency to freeze up around strangers, and her massive stage fright hinders this. She’s known to play with her hair when she’s frightened, sometimes to the point of pulling it out. She stumbles over her words and becomes flustered. She  performs much better when her friends are around to give her advice. She’s good at noticing details that others miss. Gemma’s a master programmer, though today Sigrid, Gabrielle, and even Alexis have surpassed her skill level. But Gemma doesn’t mind: she was the one who taught Sigrid how to code, after all. No matter how good her students become, she remains humble to the point of doubting herself, but she hides away her insecurity. She loves math, and is currently trying to solve advanced math problems, particularly if P equals NP. To help get her outside more, Sigrid has gotten her interested in photography, and astrophotography is her favorite. She also loves engineering, and more surprisingly, solar energy, rock music and gardening. However, though her ability to identify flowers is impressive, she has next to no knowledge of other areas of biology. Despite this, humans turn to her to cure their diseases, wrongly believing she has healing powers. She remains a member of the “Semiconductor Club” and helped establish it, even if Sigrid now runs it. In addition to her former student, she’s close with her Elemental neighbors Gabrielle and Alexis, and mentors them in programming. Once Ariana asked her for tech help and now the two are surprisingly close.
