Deacon is a struggling college student who works full time on a monster-surveying team with his coworker Kendall. Together they maneuver the less-frequented areas of the Dead Zone, doing their best to tag and track any supernatural creatures they come across. Although Deacon comes off as a well meaning but dense guy, he is rather perceptive, and reads between the lines often. He often acts more oblivious than he is to spare an awkward situation or hurt someone else's feelings.

Deacon came from money, a large old money family with ties to the military ━ and a career path Deacon wasn't interested in. At his family's irritation, Deacon began to become more infatuated with a creative job, and moved to the big city to enroll in university and further develop his skills. His family, livid that Deacon wouldn't remain in the family business, abruptly cut him off from money and forbid him from coming home or asking them for help, leaving Deacon on his own.

Deacon was able to stay afloat long enough to apply for a job at SENTINEL, where he was hired by his boss Sabrina. He was also able to finally successfully enroll himself in a community college not far away since he could no longer afford his dream university. Despite his shortcomings, Deacon's gentle, positive attitude remains, and he holds lots of hope for his future.
