flickermouse's Bulletins

Looking for a fabulous community with talented designers, an expanding variety of species to choose from, and a really accessible MYO system? Then you should check out Devomas. Your first MYO is free and comes with a stellar (pardon the pun) selection of traits/mutations to start with. And even better - you can eanr more MYOs by just being an active member of the community :3

Right now, there's a halloween-themed event going. Costumes everywhere! Whilst you wait for your MYO to be approved, you can still enter by using the NPCs Nikari, Lalu, or Vanilia. The prize? Special tokens that can get you even more cool traits for your character!

Check out the forum here on TH https://toyhou.se/~forums/5868.species-discussion/376173.devomas-a-never-ending-space-odyssey18-discord and maybe bob in to the server. Come say hi :D

\\*** Free Art Raffle ***//

Posted 8 months, 1 day ago by flickermouse

(cross-posted to Deviant Art as well)

Okay, so its closer to autumn now than summer (technically we're IN metereological autumn as of 1st September, but its not autumn for me until we hit the equinox 🍁🍂).

This is prob not even a 'update' in the true sense of the word, but it IS something that I usually do when I open comms but didn't attach to a previous bulletin, which is an art raffle. I would usually tie it to the deadline for comms and ask folks to share the link, etc. As my comms are currently set to 'rolling', I don't have any fixed deadlines or special dates coming up...or do I?

At the end of October is my graduation ceremony for my MA

I can totally appreciate that this is not a big thing to celebrate for some folk, and some might even say 'its just a piece of paper.' Whether I'm at the ceremony or not, I still get my qualification, I still get my 'piece of paper'. But it represents something pretty big for me.

= I was not sure I'd ever get here =

Between the cost of doing an MA, other personal circumstances, and then a new long-term health condition to manage, doing something like this felt so very, very out of reach.  When a small but tangible chance came along, I took it. It meant all kinds of upheaval. All kinds of sacrifice as well. But I did it. I threw all of me and myself into the course. Probably because I'll never be in this position again.

So I'm going to squeeze as much out of these last remnants of an incredible academic year.  The MA has done what I wanted - and needed it - to do. I have more skills. More experience. I have a renewed energy for my work like never before, I want to keep making things and sharing them, I want to make people smile and laugh and everything in between. And if thats not something to celebrate...then I don't know what is 🌟

+++++++ART RAFFLE+++++++

CLOSED

Onto the actually interesting bit, lol    Super simple to enter, absolutely no special requirements at all. Just post a reply below, saying something like 'I'd like to enter the art raffle please' and you're all set  You have until 23:59 on 27 October 2023 GMT to enter.

I'm going to try and make the prize pool as big as I can handle, currently stands at:

  • 3x cartoon pagedolls or icons or sketch-sheets
  • 2x full body, no BG character pieces or portraits
  • 1x big ol' scenic piece

Winners can pick from the prize pool until they're all gone. Will I add more prizes? Potentially, it will depend a little on workload at the end of October but I will offer as much as I can

Can you get more entries? You sure can. Share the art raffle in other places (DA status, TH bulletin, a tweet, etc), post the link/proof when you comment and you'll get an extra ticket for each place you've posted.

==If you've already entered via DeviantArt, you can't enter again here on TH, and vice-versa. You can still link to DA journals or TH bulletins as part of your extra tickets, but please only ENTER the raffle in one place. Thank you.==

If you've got any general questions or comments, reply directly to this journal so I can keep the art raffle entries tidy

+++++++++++

And there you have it, the art raffle is open  For all of you who have followed me for the past year, who have said lovely things on my early animation and concepts, and for putting up with me waffling on about things, lol...

  Thank You

...another FREE MYO in the Erras universe!! Don't know what I'm talking about? Well, I'm talking about Selbirs. They have arrived :D You can now make your very own feathered friend. Need more deets? Understandable. Head over to the MYO event post right here. You'll find some sample Selbirs and traits, and the instructions for getting your own plumed pal or avant-garde avian. (Not a fan of feathers? You're covered (and so is your potential Selbir) - there's also SCALES available.)

Why am I excited for these bird brains? Not only do they have a plethora of fabulous traits pulled from birds and dinosaurs alike, but they bring some fabulous lore and political dynamics into the world setting. Their super-power? Collaboration and communication. Can they defeat vast armies of tall, muscular plant people? Just you watch...

Howdy! Oh look, it's an OOC bulletin! We shall return to the riveting insights and lives of my characters soon, this is a brief interruption just to share that I have opened up commissions for the summer. No set time-limit, I work on them as they come in, and will prob keep them open as long as I have time to fill whilst I start looking for animation jobs <3

I am trialling a new comms platform called Artistree, there's a couple of things you need to know in advance:

  • there's a platform fee of 6.5% on everything (plus some extra if the final commission price is less than $100)
  • you don't need an Artistree account, just an email address that you can check regularly for updates
  • you can still pay via PayPal
  • I have set my prices in Pound Sterling for this first run but if it starts to cause too many problems with exchange rates and whatnot, i'll set them to US Dollar for future slots
I'd love to support this platform, it looks like they really want to make things better for artists who want to earn a living online. But I am also just trialling it this time, so if the process becomes a barrier to customers, I will go back to PayPal.me etc. Feedback is very welcome

If you're still interested, head over to my request form <3 Any questions before you submit? Feel free to message me here on TH :) And shares always appreciated <3
68233687_2OcLSFttifMLj6k.jpgWhy is it always the simplest of things that seem to stick in your mind the most? I was halfway through giving Louis a bath and a restyle when Sim comes frolicking over (that child was BORN TO FROLIC), asking if I had time to do something with her hair. Something, anything, she didn't mind. She just likes her hair to be brushed and played with.

Now, my brother - bless his oversized heart (and hands) - is not great with hairbrushing. He tries, he *really* tries, but he's more scared of accidentally hurting Sim than anything else. Which is understandable...I felt like that sometimes with my own kids. This is what got me thinking about memories - I remember brushing Neme's hair when she was Sim's age...and putting plasters on Barney's knees...the littlest things. The most *ordinary* of things. Of course I still remember their achievements and crowning glories (when Neme won the school science fair, she was so happy)...but the little stuff...that's what I think of first...

I'm glad Luther will get a chance to make some of those memories with Sim. He has always wanted to be a dad, and from what I have managed to find out about Sim, it sounds like she really needs one in her life.
11031094?1629031908I feel so bad, I never gave much stock to a lot of items before I left home. I mean, I understood that items came from somewhere - the perfume had to be made and then bottled into exquisite glass; the combs my...mother...would use had to be crafted, some of them from bone. I understood but I don't think I ever appreciated it.

I commissioned a new crossbow before the return to Tonpelli, with one request - some of the surviving crossbow from the...first time...had to be incorporated.
I'm not sure why I even did that. I went back to Tonpelli not to fight. I didn't want to fight, I hoped I'd never have to fight again after last time. But maybe...

...maybe a part of me felt like...the memories of the old crossbow...would pass into the new one. Or maybe that was for me. The old crossbow, even though it was broken after I was separated from the Blues...from...from...Ci...even though it was broken, it had saved my life, and saved other lives, before that happened. So...maybe it would have those memories and when the time came...I could summon those memories to help...

Seriously, what's a girl gotta do to just run a business around here!? I mean, pottery is already a niche thing. Pottery made by a devoma is even more niche. Finding new customers for pieces or new folks for the classes is hard enough...
...but...

Now my workshop is full of...full of..weird little fluffy bird-things!

I don't know what to do about them! I mean...they aren't...doing anything bad...they kind of mill about the workshop, and thankfully they haven't knocked anything over yet...

They're kinda cute, in their own way....

Hmmm, maybe i can use this...a joint enterprise. Pottery...and petting zoo...

I have been low-key following Sealomimi for a while. Very cute species concept, and who doesn't love seals? Puppies of the sea! Sealomimi have a fabulous MYO event right now to celebrate the release of a brand mutation - crystalline. You can get a free MYO with the new mutation by bobbing over to this bulletin :) https://toyhou.se/~bulletins/1213086.open-sealomimi-free-myo-turn-in-event

An inter-planetary recruitment fair. Could be interesting. You mill about, peeking over shoulders and tentacles to get a look at the varying stalls. Some recruiters use food to entice you, others use free swag, and others still try to use charm and silver tongues (literal in some cases). Then you spot a stall that has drawn a large crowd. You feel like you should prob avoid it, after all its usualyl either the impossible-to-get jobs or too-good-to-be-true jobs that get a crowd this worked up.

But your curiosity is no match for the excited babble moving through the crowd.

You somehow manage to squeeze, wiggle, and shuffle your way closer to the front. Spinning some fantastical tale of criminals and steely good guys is a lithe, slightly gangly looking devoma. His image does not match his story of daring escapades...but that is precisely his point. The work is so varied, needing people of all kinds of skills and talents, that everyone can find their place.

As if the crowd isn't already enraptured enough, he builds up to his set piece.

"Y'wanna know the best part..."

Saw an amazing flower today!

Posted 1 year, 1 month ago by Orchid flickermouse

I can tell people about flowers right? I was just walking along, in the park. The small one, its not as busy and I don't get stared at quite so much...but anyway, just walking along. Kitten following as always. (They're not really a kitten any more but the name has kind of stuck. Also kind of like crocus...) Its a bit cold, I've been told this is 'spring' and the weather is always a bit of a mixed bag. Not that I know what it means if a bag is mxed...

Anyway! So walking along, wishing I had a coat, then Kitten scurries past my feet chasing a bug. They pounce and land right in a patch of white flowers. I bend down to pick up Kitten and this flower smells...LIKE FOOD! Not in a herbivore way (I think I'm an omnivore, does that matter?) but it reminds me of certain things being cooked in the big kitchen. It smells so nice I have to pick some and take them home, see if anyone knows what it is.

The rabbit girl in the coffee shop says its something called 'wild garlic', which is why it smells like food. You can cook with garlic, and you can apparently cook with wild garlic too. The leaves, the flowers, all edible :D
