Birth of a New Order
8/21/21 - 9/8/21

Following a grueling campaign, vicious debate, and months of unrest, King Gladius has finally spoken; by royal decree, the new leader of the Order is not an Archmage, but an Archon, the first non-mage figurehead the Order has seen in over a century.

With unrest everywhere and fear of mages at an all-time high, it's no surprise that Miriam's pragmatic anti-mage rhetoric resonated with the masses. As she accepted her new position, Miriam published a letter, which circulated through Ivras's major cities and news publications:

Citizens of Ivras, it is with utmost gratitude -- and relief -- that I accept the position to which I have been appointed by King Gladius, the position formerly referred to by the title of Archmage. It is of great consolation to me, and likely many of you, that the King is still willing to listen to his people when they speak, even if it requires him to hear inconvenient truths.

Throughout my campaign, I made my intentions plain. Under my supervision, an effort will be underway to strongly regulate the use of magic in Ivras, and to ensure that non-Order mages in the country are found, registered to the Order, and relocated safely to Namarast. To that end, I have issued guidelines for some existing mage protectors and Order instructors to begin turning their talents toward locating and apprehending unregistered mages. I and my cabinet believe that this is a far greater use of these magical resources than fighting and training monsters that will, in time, no longer exist.

To my mage constituents, many of whom opposed me in fear, I say this: these efforts are not to punish you, imprison you, or dehumanize you. They are to protect you, and those around you, from the true dehumanizing force among us: Corruption. In my vision, the Order will become a safe haven against the elements that provoke the grotesque transformations and battles with mass fatalities that plague our citizens, mage and non-mage alike. Namarast is not a dungeon. It is a place you can live in peace, without fear, uncertainty, or harassment. Enter of your own accord, and I assure you, you will see for yourselves that resistance is the unnecessary act of a selfish fool.

That said, all forms of resistance will be met in kind.

I am not, as I have implied, your Archmage. As both a non-mage and a reformer, I find it inappropriate to take up the mantle of my predecessor. I am, humbly and in servitude,

Word from Namarast spreads quickly, reaching your Mage wherever they are. The new Archon has brought her Witchfinders into the fold, filling the upper echelons of the Order with non-mages hellbent on containing all of Ivras's mages in the Order. With the Order's resources in the Witchfinders hands, the educational, military, and diplomatic functions of the Order are operating on smaller budgets, and with fewer mages.

Many current Mage Protectors, researchers, and professors are being reassigned to assist the Witchfinders in their search across Ivras. Droves of Order mages are now being ordered to use their power to root out and apprehend Wild and Hidden mages across the land.

What does your character do?

Join the Witchfinders. Perhaps your character believes Namarast is the best place for all mages, or maybe they simply want to protect themself from the consequences of defying the Archon, but your mage joins the hunt for rogue mages, aiming to bring them to task. (+1 Corruption)
Make a stand against the Order. Your character, whether an Order mage or not, loudly fights back against the Archon and her droves of Witchfinders, making themself an enemy of the Order. (+1 Power)
Wait and see. Your character is safe enough now, but emotions are running high. Perhaps if they lay low, keep their head down, this will blow over. Perhaps things aren't as bad as everyone seems to think. (-1 Cost) If your character already has 0 cost, you may choose +1 Corruption instead.
Rebel quietly. Perhaps your Order mage finds a way to flee Namarast, depriving Miriam of a loyal mage. Perhaps your character finds a way to aid rogue mages in secret. Either way, they choose subtle tactics over public demonstration. (+1 Discipline)
