are you happy with your artstyle?

just a general question.

was thinking of my own artstyle, and how its very 'cutesy'. (examples in spoiler) i do like my style, i think its cute. the problem arises with that,,,, its never how i imagined my style would end up. you see, ive always admired 'gross-out' styles. lumpy, unappealing to a wide audience, kind of just fucked up looking. i feel conflicted about my art style, because while i like it as A style, its not what i really want for my style. i have fun drawing, i like it visually, but part of me wishes that i hadnt ended up drawing this way. i could start to change my art style, i could practice, but i just dont have the free time to do that anymore. i love to draw monsters, creepy, unnerving things, and thats hard when my style lends itself to cute chibi fluffy things. its not that big of a deal, but i wanted to know how others feel about their own art style. are you happy with it? has your style had any dramatic shifts? do you have any alternate styles?

yes totally

People who hate on their art consistently are kinda lame.

you can like your art without it being perfect. im constantly trying to improve but if i was always hard on myself i wouldnt see as much progress.

I'm happy that I am developing my own skills and style! I got some ways to improve but it's my art and that what's I love about it the most

zidanetribal

happy it's going somewhere too; i really want to improve my anatomy though so everything flows better x_______x

Heterougly

Im happy w my art style i think im starting to like it more!!

My style is very inconsistent however, i feel I am getting closer to the art style i can be happy with. For the most part I focus on getting my fundamentals to a better place as the main reason i don't like my style at times is due to lack of information on my fundamentals.

I do prefer my painterly style tho. Even tho it's still in the works, it's something I have so much fun with while my simplier styles

are something i do when i don't have much time or energy to do full on paintings.

GameGeek002

No but that's mainly because i don't have one even after 19 years of drawing it really freaking sucks! Sure replication is fine but having my own art style why is it taking so long.

creatfran

yup, i'm pretty happy with my style! especially when you look at how far i've come in the past few years alone. i think i've managed to find my personal balance between cartoony and realistic. the only thing that's still a little inconsistent is the brushes that i use to line, but the ones i use now are much better than the past ones.

(under the spoiler for space) the first image on top shows an art trade i did a year ago, and the one on the bottom shows one that i did yesterday! i think my posing + lining comes off as more confident and expressive, and the shading looks less blocky :D

I’m kinda conflicted on it. It feels boring and unoriginal to me, but other people tell me it’s unique. I guess I think it’s boring because I’m the one staring at it every day.

I also often feel like my art is more cutesy than I want it to be. I want to draw weird creepy things. But I’ve noticed that my art has gradually been becoming less cute and idk where it’s gonna end up but I’m kinda happy with it so far

Pikuseru

I personally like my artstyle! (Also IMO people can have more then 1 artstyle! So if you want to have multiple, go for it!)
