What colour do you sketch with?

Pretty simple question. What colour do you sketch with and why? This is assuming you're going to line the sketch and not use it as lineart

I use to sketch in red but a friend of mine is colour blind, so they see red as yellow. After they told me that I started to sketch in light blue, and I've been doing that ever since

I sketch in black on a grey background.. I'm not really into colors haha

PastelPearls

Usually dark red which is what I use for lineart too, though sometimes I'll use other colours like light pink or blue

I sketch usually with a medium-light gray in sketchbook pro and then transfer over to firealpaca for lining. Although when I do PMVs, I color-code my sketches for each character

either the character's eye color, the color they are/wear the most, or the color that i see fits!!

I'm not sure why I do this, but every character I draw has a color. Like if I'm drawing a blue character, they're blue. Or a red, the sketch is red. I think it's easier on my eyes for every character to have some sort of color, and that way I know where the character is. (the only sketch example i have is this and its old, but still how i sketch things - a color for each character.)

I always use either shades of blue or red/pink! It usually depends on what the final color scheme of the image will be, but also those two colors tend to be easiest to my eyes. I also always color the background to match the sketch color for maximum eye comfort (so if I use dark blue to sketch I make the bg light blue).

Demonite

I sketch with blue!

Honestly? Whatever color my brush was on after I last closed my drawing program. Sometimes it's black, red, green, blue, as long as it's dark I'll use it.

Most often though, it's black, sometimes I actively change it from whatever color it was before to black, I don't know why, just a habit I suppose.

i use light blue for basic blocks to find the form and figure out the rough anatomy, and then light red/pink to sketch the actual thing. my bg is always white, but lately i think its starting to hurt my eyes so maybe i should start using gray as my bg color...

Hmm if the sketch is for painting (not for lining a sketch) then I typically use brown.

But if it's for the intention to line... I think I usually do a progression of blue > sometimes green > purple  > dark red/brown > black/gray

I remember reading that the color blue is good for creativity, and red is for detailing so I tend to use blue, and then progressively reach dark red as details get sketch out

Yeah I sometimes use multiple colors if the sketch is more detailed or else I get confused and erase the wrong thing >.<"

i always use black for sketches but if i have to layer sketches on top of sketches for something with multiple layers of stuff then ill use hot pink. idk why i just picked a bright color thats been pretty much permanently in my color palette for some reason

aska-ray

whatever color isn't gonna be in the final piece is what i try to sketch with

though i usually default to a dark blue or purple against a grey background

For me it depends on what character I’m drawing! If it’s my one of my sonas, I use pink. If I’m drawing smth for my partner or of my partner, it’s purple! uwu I usually use  red or blue for normal characters though.

ooo!
i noticed myself going with pale blues! also my canvas is always a light gray for less eye strain and blues go nicely with it so my eyes don't hurt when im sketching!!

Depends on my mood. I usually sketch in light yellow or light blue but I've been sketching in pink recently.
