anime, k-pop, and grunge (because that's a 'cool thing' now and it wasn't before-)
Exactly what the title said. What popular and mainstream things were you (and still are) a fan of before they hit the mainstream and exploded into popularity?
I'm admittedly curious about what things you guys are the OGs of.
bruh wtf Utsu did not "sell out". metal fans smh
ANYWAY there's a lot of Youtubers I liked before they gained a lot of subscribers. like, good for them... but when the community gets bigger, you get less and less opportunities to interact with them. same with streamers.
I remember when I only knew one other person in middle/high school that liked monster hunter. Still wild it's not obscure in the west anymore ngl
Going to add to this thread, but I played Undertale soon after its release and ended up playing blind as a result.
...For all the Toriel fans, I am so sorry, but I did kill her.
Probably anime. Was into it since 1999ish.
Used to have to import DVDs when they came out since the UK didn't really do anime much.
Even though my fav band is still kinda obscure I did like them before everyone else in the fandom.. I liked them back in early 2019 and everyone else came early 2020.. so I guess The Basics? 😵💫
I’m just waiting for them to become big
minecraft, among us, wings of fire, i dont think warriors was as big as it is not when i was nine either
Fire Emblem, maybe? I've been playing since Path of Radiance (got it in 2011) and I don't think the series was massively known/popular in the west before the release of Awakening.
HOMESTUCK LOL DSAGOHGSADGH
oh my god, i remember when it came out and a friend was so into it and i was trying so hard to understand it. we made these facebook rp accounts for these characters too wayyyyy early on.
couple years down the line, suddenly homestuck was everywhere and i HATED it, it was so annoying to me. my edgelord-i-knew-it-fiiirrrssstttt ass was so sick of it!!!!! i still like it though now, got some charas i'll always love even if i don't keep up with it
