This was a conversation my friends and I were having earlier about our characters: everyone has certain character archetypes they're a sucker for-- or maybe ones that they can't help but keep making. What's your poison?
You can interpret this generally: maybe archetypes like "jerks with a heart of gold", personality traits like "smug", storylines like "friends who fall in love", whatever types of characters you love to see or create!
My characters:
a) idiots but they try
b) feelings are hard let's never talk about them
c) conflict resolution is hard let's never talk about it
I don't remember if I've been here or not, but here we go anyway!
- Characters that look good but are actually evil, or look evil but are actually good (Shadmé and Lightmé are like this, and so are Lythios and Kaltath)
- Traitors (Shadmé to some extent, pretty much everyone in Heart of Fire: especially Solis and Val)
- Main characters who are quiet and shy (Ember, Spiral)
- No true villain (Kaltath, Ragnor)
- Good friendships/friendship triangles that never devolve into romance; if they do, it becomes a disaster (Shadmé, Pit and Dark Pit, Ember, Tida, Val and Solis)
- Smol but strong (Ember, Bud, Cheep)
- Not an archetype, but black and red is everywhere (Shadmé, Ember)
Oh I’m a total sucker for
> complete asses, especially egotistical asses
> flirty feminine guys
> obsessive individuals
> stupidly loving, reckless indivuals with a hint of crazy
> clumsy, sweet individuals that are actually super screwed up inside and manipulative
> individuals that get angry when you call them a monster, but they actually are really fucked up
Wow all these traits are so negative I’m xD
Most of my characters seem benign and innocent, but by the end of they story they've all either been stabbed, stabbed someone, or killed thirty people. They turn from these normal people into badass bosses. I really like action characters like those, not sure why. Maybe because it makes for a cooler ending?

Physical/Design-wise:
- Demons and elves, pointed ears are really cute hahaha
- Anthros with long lops
- Magical girls
- Victorianesque fashion
- Mafia
- Uses of brown and purple
- Natural hair colors
- Lolita fashion
- Some hints of modern fashion, like the one you'd see on Kagerou Project?
- Floral patterns/accessories
- Mob caps
Personality-wise:
- Airheaded
- Really annoying characters, like seems like they're speaking with helium while having such a pride taunting people? Here's an example lmao
- A non-machine character that acts like a machine! Here's another example
- A character that seems sweet but it's actually a total monster, and even if they're being like monsters, they don't switch to super evil like the 'really annoying character', they maintain the personality they have for the outside
- And lastly...
> chaotic good characters that are determined to do the Right Thing no matter the cost
> sleep-deprived assholes
> tough punk teens/young adults who are secretly just trying to hide that they're scared
> tired immortals in need of a fucking break
> disillusioned college students running on too much caffeine
> space nerds
> characters who are really fucking terrible at taking care of themselves
> villains who sincerely believe they're making the world a better place
> reckless idiots
> "I would rather shoot myself in the leg than admit I have feelings"
> characters who know exactly how smart they are and are really annoying about it
> conspiracy theorists/ghost hunters
> puns, finger guns, and deep-seated insecurity
combine traits at random to form new characters with minimum effort! works every time, money back guaranteed

these are the basic types i tend to repeat a lot!~ the number in parentheses is how many characters i have like that!
> pretentious and smug villain. often stoic. sometimes snide. one step ahead (see...temperance...)
> Sad (any of the tamotsus on @/bortz)
> more smug assholes that are kind of stupid also!
> Emotional Baggage Part 2, The Electric Boogaloo (ayleth! ayleth! a)
> Reckless Girl Reckless Girl Reckless Girl! Also Gay
-Characters who have done morally questionable things (no one's perfect)
-Characters whose entire design is revolved around a specific aesthetic
-Characters with actual emotions, I don't really like any sort of character who's unfeeling or nihilistic
There's definitely more archetypes I tend to do but I'm not self analyzing enough to notice them asdffhg
i actually tend towards just two archetypes. most of my characters are either:
> loud, obnoxious, usually impulsive, usually assholes
> very stern and serious, often very exhausted pseudo-mom friend characters
- Just want to live a normal life
- Bunch of pet lovers (That's two dogs, five cats, and one ball python)
- A good mix of cinnamon rolls, and killer cinnamon rolls
- #Stressed
- They have seen some things

- egos the size of the entire universe (god i wish this was an exaggeration)
- people who deserve better backstories and need to be taken out of my custody (pain is my favorite word)
- purple and gold. purple and gold. purple and gold.
- absolute angels with dubious morals
- Hoodies.
- My Dream Girlfriends (And Yours Too!)
