What's your preferred age range for OCs?

Pretty much what it says on the tin, as always! I was wondering about this since I see that many users seem to have a preferred age range, or sometimes an exclusive age range for their characters! What's yours? (I'm of course talking about physical/mental age here; keep that in mind if you mostly have immortal OCs)

Also, please stay nice in your replies! Having preferences is 100% okay, but don't insult people of a given age range (ie. "elderly people are ugly", "minors are boring"), whether you're referring to real life people or just characters. I want this thread to stay enjoyable to read for everyone, no matter their age or the type of characters they write.

Most of my ocs are around 16, but I have a huge amount that are adults and children too. Even some over hundreds of years old.

I do have over 400 (near 500) ocs for sure, but it's still a fun fact that most are around 16!

I like making teenagers, probably because I am one myself. However I have just as many adults, about 20-30 years, because it makes more sense in the story. I also like making children OCs though, I guess I like making OCs of all different ages!

I include my immortal OCs as the age they appear as. If I was going by their actual ages, I guess I also like making OCs of 1000+ age lol.

I guess it’s hard to say for me since I don’t have many ocs but in my current story one of the big side characters ages from 20 to 80 over the course of the story. The main character is 67 for most of it but he’s an immortal and physically 38. I think I can write ages pretty comfortably and make it interesting. I really like black and white movies and many of the ones I like have middle aged protagonists so that’s what I like to write too.

Usually I make characters that are around my own age. As I've gotten older my character range has gotten older too. I used to stay in the 12-18 range but now I lean more towards 16-25

MariahKat

usually 25-35ish (ignoring my ocs that live longer than humans-)

buuut even the ones that live longer are still in some equivalent of that range.

I personally never feel comfortable writing minors so I usually write adults unless needed. So most of my characters are in the young-adult to adult range (18-30-ish). ...if we are talking about human ages. I got used to the idea of writing older people over time but most of mine are still young-adults/adults.

most of my characters range from 45+ n up. top personal favs r all 50 - 65 years old ,, old ppl r funney like 2 make them

tbh i never really find it important to give my charas exact ages, so unless it comes up plotwise i tend to forget😅

many of my charas have been with me for years tho and theyve grown and changed along with me.. I guess nowadays the kids would call that sort of thing comfort charas? but my stories tend to stretch over multiple decades, sometimes generations and so its hard to pin down ages haha.. theyre all pretty fluid in terms of narrative time

HEAVENDELUXE

i have them in a range of ages, but my favs are usually 30s-40s! i like thinking about a more mature character, often wrestling with that mid life crisis lol. but given that a lot of rps involve characters in their 20s, i sometimes tend to age down my ideas to keep them fitting in well orz

I love having a wide variety of ages for my OCs, considering I make big stories with multiple characters. Plus for some stories, I love having them gradually age over the course of both irl time and their story's time too.

I have OCs as young as 6-7 and as old as 70 [ not on TH but big major characters in some stories ]. But if I averaged the ages out, most range from 16-35 years old. I started making OCs as a child so it made sense to have a lot of characters reflect my own age at the time. But now that I'm well into adulthood, it's good having some older characters too.
