Always 18+.
Having an underaged sona makes me uncomfy and my sonas range from 21-30.
Pretty much what it says on the tin, as always! I was wondering about this since I see that many users seem to have a preferred age range, or sometimes an exclusive age range for their characters! What's yours? (I'm of course talking about physical/mental age here; keep that in mind if you mostly have immortal OCs)
Also, please stay nice in your replies! Having preferences is 100% okay, but don't insult people of a given age range (ie. "elderly people are ugly", "minors are boring"), whether you're referring to real life people or just characters. I want this thread to stay enjoyable to read for everyone, no matter their age or the type of characters they write.
Usually mine end up being 18-27-ish? I have a hard time drawing older characters (most of my characters now even have baby faces since it's difficult for me to draw older looking characters for some reason lmao) so I try to stay away from having characters that are older now since I feel like I wouldn't be able to do them justice.
The actual age range of my characters goes from about 12-45 (not counting any of my kaiju children, since their ages are... phew.)
I tend to favour making characters ranging in their mid to late 20's though, even though I'm only 15 myself lmao. It just makes more sense for their story, since a lot of my characters are concentrated in the area of the most attention, which requires a certain age (it's basically like the military, so get your mind out of the gutter!) It's odd because only two years ago did I exclusively create OCs my own age... though they didn't contribute to any sort of story, just short-term role plays because I kept getting ghosted. So I guess that's why.
I think I only have, like, three characters that are around fifteen? That are in use, anyways.
Surprisingly, I don't have a lot of characters my own age. Most of the important characters in my main story are in their mid to late twenties during the main arc. The reason for this is because my story takes place in the near future of our world, and these ages were chosen based on when I thought these events might actually occur paired with a birth year close to mine (it's easier for me to write/relate to these characters' childhood experiences that way). Around 2030 when the main arc takes place, my older main characters born in 2002 are 28 and the younger ones born in 2003 are 27 (although there's still one main character whose body was born in 2005, meaning that he physically is much younger than the rest).
There are a few characters, like Ivan, that are closer to my age (the 16/17 year range) because they're meant to fit within the 'teenage magical girl' trope at least somewhat. Also, the age difference helped tie together some characters more, enabling Lenny to become sort of a father figure to Ivan.
On this site, my youngest is probably Ivan at 16 years old while my oldest (excluding immortal characters because that's cheating kind of) is Owen, who is in his fifties. Off-site, I have characters like Antonio Kobayashi and the cheese princess who are closer to toddler age, and my non-human characters' ages extend as far as 15,000,000,000 years, like for Reid in his god form.
Because I ship many of my characters and enjoy NSFW of them, nearly all of mine are 18-30 years old (I'm 20 myself). What few minors I have are used as side characters and are purely for storytelling purposes. I also prefer that range because that's what I can relate to in terms of mental maturity, I just have a hard time writing good children characters
lately most of my characters have been raging from late 20's to late 50's or so. I'm most comfortable with these ages honestly, it also gives them enough range for lore and story. You can't have much backstory for a 16 year old because well..... They're just barely a teenager. Early 20's is just a tad too early because they just barely became an adult! They had no chance to adult!
I also like to draw and write about nsfw stuff of my characters, and having minors doing such things is just creepy lol. It's also why i try to stray away from child-like characters.
... My characters’ ages are all over the place lol... I think my youngest is 16 and my oldest (with a set age) is over 2 million; neither of those are in my current “main” canon, though. The youngest there is 17 (a side character) and the oldest is in his 2000s. My oldest human characters are in or near their 60s—none of them have set-in-stone ages yet agajsjdhsf
However, I tend to gravitate towards characters whose ages range from their early 20s to somewhere in their 30s, or at least characters who appear as such.
Age is weird when you have a cast of mainly vampires lol
