I was reading last night/earlier today about American/British accents and thought about how interesting they were, so show me characters that have some sort of distinct accent or dialect! Doesn't matter from where.
This thread isn't to make fun of anyone or perpetuate stereotypes, btw, but just to discuss. :>
Ryder is British! I actually have a voice picked out for him, it's Murdoc Niccals from Gorillaz :]
- maverick has a french accent - it's a little bit of a weird one because he's old and combines a few dialects from all over, but it's distinctly french all the same
- ely is from belgium, so he also has a slight french accent (though not as strong as the above because there's some german influence in there)
- vasily and vasilia are both russian. vasily's accent is notably thicker than vasilia's considering he's been in siberia since his birth, whereas vasilia left the country during her teenage years
- stita speaks with a very very heavy transatlantic drawl
- theo is a born and bred chicagoan, so he's got a chicago accent. it slips through most when he's angry or talking quickly
- azrael has an english accent. it's closer to the queen's english than anything, but can slip back into something more informal
- marshall is from miami. is very........ boisterous. "typical" american accent
Ilja is from a fictional setting, but his home country is heavily coded after Russia and eastern side of Finland so I also imagine him speaking with a slight accent! In real world terms I'd assign him a Russian accent because it'd be a closed match to what I have in mind.
I love giving my characters different accents :3 Here are a few:
- Cry has a British accent
- Vigil naturally has a light Scottish accent but can switch to American, Brittish and Scottish whenever
- Isaac has a slight welsh accent with a smudge of Pakistani C:
- Vincent has a heavy Italian accent
- Kuro has a strong Japanese accent
- Valentin and Chiara both speak with a hint of Italian
By pure principle almost all my Anthrels (personified religions) have non-English language accents, as most of them so far come from mainland Europe, Asia, and the Middle East! Some of my faves in terms of accent include the Eastern Orthodox Church who has an accent with hints of both Greek and Russian, and Celtic Polytheism, who sounds like how r/ScottishPeopleTwitter is spelled.
Eiko, being a Japanese from Kyoto, has a Kansai dialect. She also speaks English with a very thick accent, and she's usually afraid people won't understand her when speaking English. Her Dutch is pretty spot-on to locals, being taught from young, though.
Oh boy, here I go:
Dr. Trevor - Since he grew up in Scotland, he adapted the heavy Scottish accent. Sadly, he still doesn't understand half of the Scottish idioms and whatnots.
Aracelli - Even though she has already adjusted to talking to Japanese god eaters, her Spanish accent is still there. She often breaks into it if frustrated/angry.

- chris, peter, aamina, sara - born and raised in manchester. they have average english accents, with varying degrees of manchester twang or "posh" qualities. peter uses a mix of english and american slang.
- nate, mari - both were born/raised in the philippines, but moved to the us in their teens. nate has adopted an american accent, but mari's is probably more of a mix of both.
- alexei - his voice claim is australian. his australian accent also shows up a bit in his japanese.
the rest of my ocs most likely have american accents :^y
ivette has a slight french accent!
whisper has a british accent!
my persona (like me irl) has a polish accent!
Here is another one from me; Saoirse has pure Irish descent so every now and then, Hal would be confused on what she's saying.
Despite his name origin, the English equivalent of his region's accent would be a really, really strong Appalachian accent.
He often plays mute around strangers because he doesn't want to deal with the stereotypes his accent carries, since despite his efforts he can't hide it completely.
