ferelith's speech has holdovers from ancient times because she's been alive for so many thousands of years! in the tabletop game i played her in i conveyed this with an exaggerated, bad, vaguely british accent
I was reading last night/earlier today about American/British accents and thought about how interesting they were, so show me characters that have some sort of distinct accent or dialect! Doesn't matter from where.
This thread isn't to make fun of anyone or perpetuate stereotypes, btw, but just to discuss. :>
My friend and I were talking about Corrie and then my friend said something in Corrie’s perspective with a really obvious fake country/cowboy American? (I’m Australian and America as a whole confuses me) accent, and it stuck. Sarah and Melody also canonically have a similar accent to Corrie’s, but probably more realistic.
Has an English accent that he talks to people with although it's not his actual accent. His actual one is a Hong Kong accent.
Aleks lives in Poland but originally comes from Norway and despite not living there most of his life, his accent is very definite and sometimes it might be hard to understand what he's trying to get across.
My most notable is probably Dotty, she has a german accent! I got many more but it usually is British and stuff lol
Most of my characters live in a fantasy world (that I haven't named yet) and I imagine the accent there to be a kinda weird mixture between an English and American accent, sometimes veering more one way or the other. It's basically a general, non-distinct accent for the people of that world to use.
However, here's a few characters not from that world who have specific accents!
- Lewis has a Northern Irish accent - usually barely noticeable, but gets stronger when he's tired
- Sandra grew up in Florida but moved to the UK around twelve years ago; she still has an American accent but it's considerably fainter and she often puts on an English accent when she's trying to sound professional. Around friends or family, she tends to slip more into her original accent.
- Anita grew up in rural southwest England and spoke with a rougher 'country' accent, but when she started attending boarding school, she noticed that most of the other students spoke with different accents - usually more refined, upper-class-sounding ones compared to hers. So nowadays she speaks with a more refined English accent in an effort to blend in.
- Kaitlin has a Welsh accent.
Originally from Montreal, Reggie's first language is French, and she has a very strong French Canadian accent when speaking English. If you give her a hard time about it or make a snail joke, she might egg your house.
One of my stories is set in a small NZ beach town, so most of the characters have a New Zealand accent! One of the exceptions is Amos, who has a British Estuary Accent that leans a bit more to the RP side. The other is Lottie, who is the ghost of a jazz era actress who speaks with a trained Mid-atlantic accent.
