Lemon-Cricket
Is that an... Otter? Or a porcupine? As your profile pic? lol
My question is, what do you think the most important thing to have for an OC/Profile is to make it... Look nice for people viewing it?
A good story/backstory? Fancy page layout? Do you think it's good as is if the character/formatting is nice looking? Something else?
It's fine! I'm an author too, I love talking about my stories :D
I have WAY too many stories, I started in like... 3rd grade when I got into Skydancers (The horses with butterfly wings) and started making my own fanfic picture books about them XD IDK it developed from there, I think my first real story though was like... 5th grade maybe? I can't even remember, I first started writing things out on binder paper so I have a shit ton of stuff from that era. I would generally write fanfics, I don't think my first original story was till sometime in middle school maybe? I can't remember, but the two earliest that stand out to me (But for sure weren't my first likely) were Sutekina Kupurru (I probably butchered the spelling) and the Ninja Angels (I think Moon Eyes falls in as one of my first too but not sure). I never got far with either, but none of my stories have ever been completed XD
WAIT scratch that, I just remembered my first story OML this is going to be a long reply XD I'm so sorry, you asked a big question XD My first original story was my creation story, when I was little my imagination was huge and I was a bit more mature for my age at the time, and with my abusive father and lonely nights of having trouble to sleep (I still do this) I'm insert myself into a story and start playing it out in my head, and I'd eventually doze off doing it. My first one doing this, and most recurring, was a story about how a tribe of wolves needed their leader to go out and find a mate, and the tribe of wolves were no ordinary wolves, but shapeshifters, so the mate would be human that they'd turn into- you get the idea. XD They chose me and would kidnap me, and integrate me into their pack, and I'd have puppies and live a happy life. I think this was my way of escape at the time... Either way I got obsessed with him, with the story, and even through the fifth and sixth grade, I was obsessed with this story, so I decided to write it. I think I only ever got halfway though XD I think Moon Eyes is the only story that's not a fanfic I've completed, and that needs HELLA reworking ^^;
My favorite story? Geez, that's a doozy. I have so many stories that I like, most are completed in my head but not on paper XD Of my fanfics though, def gonna be Sleepless Shadows, that's my most recent and I love it, it's just... I need to get back into writing ^^; Red Fate Shinshou could easily compete as my favorite, but like... It's a story my friend is turning into a comic based on an RP we did, so I don't think it's the story that's my favorite as much as the character's stories. Of my original stories, too many, though I guess.... HMMM Lemme double check. Oh geez I have hardly any of my stories there XD I guess of those Legend of Krea? I had a webcomic going of it but stopped due to my closed species.
I guess for your third question I already answered it with the first, but that's only part of the answer. I guess another big factor is the RPs I do with other people helping to build the character's story and personality. My... Character creation is weird... I will generally make an NPC, and give them a form, then randomly make a name for them, then start building on them in the story. Most of my characters have themes, I think up something as their core, and build their personality or abilities off of that. Sometimes their core isn't made apparent until later. Sometimes they are left as an NPC and never get a core or anything, other times I use them for a fanfic character for a quick thing, then insert them somewhere else. Sometimes the opposite happens, and it makes me want to establish the character more, give them more of a personality, delve into their abilities more... Sometimes I even go to a dollmaker, and start throwing things together, and that helps build the character. IDK if that answers your question, my character creation process is weird compared to others I've been told XD
Oh wait, you also asked about plot and worlds XD Worlds is a pretty easy one, since a lot of my stories are fanfics XD For my original stories however, most are set either in current era, or a fantasy realm, and I generally don't build on the world too much, leaving it to be build as I expand the story. The only world I've ever built on was Legend of Krea, where I have built the entire world and even beyond out of scratch, making NPCs, creature and monster species, the lands, names of cities and towns, capitals, governments, it was a doozy to think up everything tbh, but as for the process I started with the basis for the world, then made a world map, then made creatures, then the governing factions and leaders, how the world works, and slowly started to work from the big picture into the tiny details, the towns and villages, throwing random names in the air for everything XD For my plot, for ALL my stories, I generally first think of a starting point. Who am I introducing, what are they going to be doing, what importance do they hold to the story, etc, then I think of an end goal, and what their motivation and influence is to reach that end goal. Everything in between? Psh, I just leave that up to intuition and fate. I generally never plan out the filler, and just write towards the end, adding in trials and things as I see fit. I like this method, because then even I don't know what's going to happen next, It makes me excited for the next chapter myself XD
I hope all this answered your question, sorry it's long! I tried my hardest to keep from rambling, or this would have turned out probs double or more than this XD I talk a LOT when it's a subject I enjoy, and this talk has gotten me into wanting to write more again XD PM me if you have any more questions or comments, I'd LOVE to talk more about this ^^
