Kaito7 - Finding the Threshold

Location: India (Early Spring)

Winter had come, with chilly winds and dry air, sweeping across the countryside before once more retreating from the sun's glare. It was early spring now, and for months, Kaito had never left Sauvi's side. They spent most of their time together at her favorite area, the mossy hill, with water that trickled from within the mountains down through the valley. They were there this morning, as the sun began to peek through the woven mat of trees and vines, pink and ruddy beams of light that painted everything softly. Kaito was wide awake, he had been for hours. Staring out across the cluttered hill and towards the direction of town, he daydreamed silently. Sauvi awoke and stretched, leaning up against him, paws outstretched comically as she pawed at the air.
"Good morning love" she said, sighing happily. Her emotional state had improved over the winter. She was far from joyous, but meditation and having Kaito there with her seemed to be helping greatly. She squinted her eyes, beaming at him.
"My sweet flower," he said softly, "good morning, did you rest well?"

"I think so, I didn't have nightmares this time at least." She rose to her feet, stretching again.

Kaito's gaze wandered back towards the horizon, and he fell silent for a moment. It was long enough for Sauvi to notice though, and she knew something was wrong.
"What is it? Whats bothering you?" Turning, she matched his gaze, trying to see what he was looking at.

"Its..." he faltered for a moment, but remembered his purpose. "Its nothing, I'm alright." he snapped his gaze away from the treeline and locked his eyes to hers.
"No... something is bothering you, I can feel it." she sat down, unwilling to budge.
"I'm alright, I promise." He said, climbing to his feet and walking towards her. He circled her carefully and sat next to her, leaning against her and nuzzling her cheek.

She pulled away a bit and looked to his eyes again. "Kaito. Please, it is your boundary isn't it?"
Nodding, he lowered his head a bit. "Yes. It calls to me sometimes, but I won't leave you."

"Why can't we both go?" she complained, this conversation had already happened, many times through the winter, when she caught him staring towards town.
"Its...it effects you...when you leave." He looked to her, willing her to understand. "You...You still hurt sometimes. You're still healing. I don't want you to ache like this. It could undo all the healing you've worked for."
"I understand, but It hurts me to see you like this too you know. I want you to be happy as well." Nudging him with her snout, she pushed his gaze back towards town. "Besides, I went once before, remember? Its not the first time."

"That was different...I..." the hum from his home reached out and tugged at him again, he felt he might break.

"I can feel it pulling you Kaito." she said, placing a paw on his. "Show me your home, please."

Unable to argue, and unable to ignore the pull of his nature, he relented, standing and taking a step forward. "I...Alright."
She hopped excitedly from the ground, eager to make him believe it was the right choice. She was terrified that she'd come undone if she left the forest at this point, but seeing him yearn for home like this was torture, she needed him to be able to heal as well. "Lets go!!"

And so, with the sun still climbing steadily into the sky, warming the chilled spring air, the pair set off towards town.

The trek seemed much longer than either of them had remembered, both times they had made the journey, they were in various stages of excitement or fear, and had not been focusing on direction or distance. Kaito could feel it though, and knew the direction to follow. They walked for a while beneath the tangle of dry vines, Kaito making sure to detour around Sauvi's boundary, for he knew seeing it again would only bring up painful memories. She was grateful they did not cross through that place. Further on, and they met with living vines as they neared town finally. Sauvi paused for a moment as they came to the divide between his biome and hers. Her heart seemed to skip a beat, but she stepped defiantly across the border, unwilling to let her hold Kaito back. The pull from the forest grasped after her, but she ignored it for the time, as they headed towards the outskirts, and up the hills on which Kaito's summer palace sat. Kaito padded up the hill, Sauvi was caught aback however, as she watched in awe. Kaito strode up the hill carefully, he was so focused on returning home at this point, he did not realize that this was the first time Sauvi had seen him within his boundary. Her breath caught as she watched an elaborate halo of branches erupt from his brow, sweeping back across his shoulders. Pink blossoms burst from them, showering him with petals, which drifted down, landing in... a fountain? On his back perched a smooth bowl, a warm glow emanating from within. Noticing a change, and the fact that she had stopped following him, he paused and turned back to see. Every movement he made shook more petals free. "Are you okay?" he asked,
"Uh...Y...es? You..." she stood frozen, wide eye'd at his suddenly elaborate and gorgeous appearance. "Your plants..."
"Oh yes, they're back now. Do you like them?" he asked, worried that she might be too used to his barren appearance, and dislike the clutter.
"Like them? I ...love, they're absolutely beautiful Kaito!" The glow within the fountain swelled, seeming to spill over, and Sauvi felt an air of tranquility emanating from it.
Kaito found himself blushing, he turned away and continued up the hill, unaware of what to say. Sauvi giggled and followed him, ignoring the emptyness she'd begun to feel as her vines and grapes faded.
