Prompt #23: Suit

Mielikki looked at the dresses her mother had hung up on the rolling rack. She sighed, none of it felt like her. She understood that it was tradition to wear a lovely long gown and be pretty and princess-like for a wedding - she had been to enough of her siblings weddings to prove that fact - but it wasn't her. She looked back to her mother who was staring expectantly back at her. Her mother's eyes were big and wide, green pools of emerald like a summer forest. Her hair was slightly out of order, but in a fashionable way, she even managed to make the grey streaks the dotted her hair look presentable. She was everything her mother wasn't.

"Look, I get it," Mielikki decided to cut the silence, maybe she could reason with her mother. "I do, I want to honor my family, and tradition, and all that, but I really do not feel comfortable in these big extravagant dresses. I would much rather a suit, or a tracksuit, or even just a jumper suit." Mielikki didn't dare look at her mother, she knew she would be hurt. She glanced at the door, and saw one of her brother's wives leaning in the doorway. She was a hardy roegadyn woman that Mielikki had tried to get to know, but they never really found a common ground amongst the small-talk.

"Maybe, she could wear my white jumper-suit?" She chimed in, wandering in. "It doesn't have to be a dress, we're past the point of traditionalism anyway."

Mielikki nodded in gratitude towards the lady, "I'd like that." Mia sheepishly replied.

"We can try it." Mielikki's mother replied, but her voice stung of compromise, the silence held for the finishing of the sentence. "But I'd like your partner at least to wear some form of dress."

"Well, We'll see." Mielikki said, hesitant to promise anything on behalf of another, but also hesitant to throw away an obvious boon.
