WRITTEN NOTES

ABOUT YOUR CHARACTER

  • Yes, it's fine if you want to make your Jelveil an AU of an existing OC. That's what I did, anyways.
  • Along with a typical name, feel free to give your character a nickname or a title! This isn't required, but it's fun and thematic, so I do encourage doing so.
    • Some examples: "Patient Zero" for Lola, "Radio Silence" for Casey, and "Vigor Mortis" for Mark.
    • This nickname doesn't need be to unique. It's okay if two or more Jelveils share a nickname.
    • Yes, it can be a little silly if you want. No need to adhere to the "dark" atmosphere if you don't want to, just have fun.
  • Totally lost on how to write your character? Read the "RESEARCH REPORTS" section!
  • For bio starters, I also recommend thinking about why your character turned into a Jelveil. Remember: they are modified humans that have consumed a certain commercial product.
    • Are they unhappy with their own artistic skills? Did they just want to experiment with new things? Did someone else make them take it?
  • You aren't limited to just one artistic talent for your Jelveil. Have as many as you like!
    • Go as broad or as niche as you want: do they just like to draw in general or do they only make pencil sketches of photorealistic fruit?
  • You might also want to write down other crucial aspects to the lore, such as their lucid cycle, and what class of jellyfish they are (how much cognition they retain in their "dark zones" and how they act).
    • Your character's rarity and visual traits have no bearing on any of this. This is purely a biography thing.
    • Of course, like the nickname, this isn't absolutely required, but it's recommended if you plan to adhere to the lore.
  • Speaking of, you really don't need to follow the lore if you don't want to. It's okay to disregard parts or the entirety of the universe.
    • If you choose to disconnect your Jelveil from the lore, you may face restrictions in some lore-based events. Feel free to make "AU" bios for these events, though!
    • Also, non-Jelveil characters may still participate in the universe (have connections to either SCYPH.co or a specific Jelveil) if you so desire. They may face restrictions in species events, however.

DESIGN NOTES

  • A ticket of a certain rarity gives you unlimited access to traits within that rarity, whereas a singular trait upgrade would only allow for one trait to be upgraded at a time.
    • The "addon" traits are also subject to this rule. If you have a "common" ticket with only one "uncommon" trait upgrade, you can give your character bioluminescence or wings, but not both at the same time.
    • You cannot combine trait upgrades. Two "uncommon" upgrades do not equate to a "rare" upgrade.
  • When designing your character, you are allowed to use traits of a lower tier than your ticket, or combine them as you see fit.
    • For example, if you have a "rare" ticket and you want to add three brains-- one tethered, one floating, one directly on the veil, that would be allowed.
  • You are allowed to have multiple veil materials, tentacle types or fillings for the pit. If you're using trait upgrades, it will only consume one of the highest rarity of the trait.
    • For example, if you have a "common" ticket, one "uncommon" upgrade, and one "rare" upgrade, having both vines (UC) and dog tails (UC) as tentacles would use up only one "uncommon" upgrade, and having vines (UC) and slime (R) would use up only one "rare" upgrade.
      • This doesn't apply to mutation traits, as they aren't exactly their own rarity tier, so wanting to use both ribbons (R) and stardust (M) for tentacles would consume both a rare and mutation upgrade.
  • Jelveils are always bipedal in their base forms, and always have human facial structures... aside for the pit.
  • Jelveils, before their transformations, are strictly human (with the exception of crossbreeds) and do not have animal ears, tails, horns, or non-human limbs. However, you CAN mimic them with clothing, prosthetics, or our traits, like brains and tentacles.
    • Adding some of these elements is still allowed, but do note that this means their ears, tails, horns, etc. will not be "real", as they would be mere accessories.
      • This doesn't need to be prominent in the design-- have these accessories as convincing as you want!
    • However, non-human limbs are still disallowed, as it's less plausible for a mere accessory to change the shape of something already existing, whereas with ears and horns, an accessory is easily justified.
      • Prosthetics or the "glass body" or "plush body" mutation override this restriction if the prosthetic or mutation affects the relevant area. Since it's not human flesh anyway, it can be shaped however you like.
      • Non-bipedal limbs are still disallowed, even with a prosthetic or mutation.
    • Crossbreeding with another species overrides this restriction if said species allows for these elements to occur.
  • Missing limbs, prosthetics, piercings, tattoos, hair colours, body types, eye colours, sclera colours, etc. are NOT traits and can be freely given to any Jelveil without restriction.
    • Please be reasonable with this rule. For example, if you want to give a common Jelveil tattoos of text or numbers that somehow glow and fade in and out of existence, I'm gonna have to disallow it.
    • In general, don't worry about rarity limitations if you're just trying to work with ways people could look in real life, but don't use this rule to try and bypass the limitations.
  • "Kinsona" Jelveils are a no. You can take inspiration from existing characters, but do not rip them off one-for-one.
  • Please check the visual design notes for more information-- there's stuff you haven't seen on there yet!

REDESIGN NOTES

  • The overall rarity of a Jelly is determined by the ticket used to create it, even if it has higher traits due to upgrades.
  • There is no limit on how many outfits or hairstyles you can give your character.
  • Alternate colour palettes are allowed, even for traited design elements.
  • You may edit NON-TRAIT aspects of the design freely without an edit item, but the general theme and design flow should remain consistent with the original. (In other words-- please do your best to keep the design visibly recognizable as the OG!)
    • Once a character is redesigned, the old design is considered discontinued and can no longer participate in species events.
    • However, you can make another "version" of a jelly with another ticket and have them both be active.
    • You may reinstate discontinued designs-- just try not to do it too often.
  • Any changes to traits will require an item.
    • This does not count for minor changes like colour and size/length.
    • This does count for changes to what trait it is, such as the material of the veil, what the tentacles resemble, the lucid mark shapes, EVEN within the same rarity tier.
  • If you are not the original designer, please refrain from redesigning a Jel unless you have explicit consent (either from messages or a TOS clause) from the original designer to redesign their work. Please check in with the OG artist regarding to what degree they are comfortable with their design being altered.
  • Designs should not be altered to include hateful imagery.
    • Furthermore, take care to respect the original design's identity, including race, sexual identity, religious identity/clothing, body figure, or disabilities.
  • When redesigning the traits, you are allowed to change a trait to a rarity equivalent to the ticket used to create the Jelveil without a trait upgrade.
    • However, if you want to give your Jelveil a trait higher than the ticket's rarity, you'll need an upgrade, even if the Jelveil has another trait of that same rarity.
      • You are allowed to "move around" your upgrades on the same jelly, if you wish.
    • For example, if you used a common ticket with a rare upgrade to make your Jelveil, and you have a floating brain (R) that you're happy with, but you want to change the tentacles from regular jellyfish (C) to vines (UC), you cannot do that without a trait upgrade item.
      • Yes, the brain has two traits-- amount is separate from attachment.
  • Have fun and be yourself
