DESIGN NOTES


  • Veilthings are all based off of real-life pet animals-- exceptions can be made if the Thing happens to be owned by someone who works with wild animals, but this is rarely the case.
    • Since hybrids are possible in real life (though rare), they can work for Veilthings.
    • They will never be mythical creatures.
  • Veilthings do not have brains, lucid marks, pits, or weird necks.
  • There's no limit to how many tentacles or veils that can be present on a Veilthing.
    • However, there should be three tentacles at the very least-- one on each side of the head, and one in place of the tail.
    • Veilthings do not have regular animal tails.
  • Any sort of tentacle or veil material, regardless of their rarity on a Jelveil, can be used without restriction on a Veilthing.
    • Veilthings have no rarity.
  • All "add-on" type traits, including mutations, may be present on a Veilthing. You do not need a trait upgrade to add them.
    • Again, Veilthings have no rarity.
  • They can be any size or colour-- it doesn't need to necessarily reflect the actual animal the Thing is based off of.

Scyphozate does not negatively affect (non-human) animals in any way-- this is done to avoid any implications of animal abuse or mistreating. Gum cube treats are completely safe and will not harm an animal at all, nor cause them any discomfort or displeasure, no matter how heavy or inconvenient the additional growths may seem. Veilthings are still very much the same animal they were before, now with a funny hat and funny tentacles.

They do, however, develop some art skill. If they have a Jelveil owner, this tends to (but not always) match their special talent. The Thing's new art skill does not come at the cost of its cognitive powers (again, there are absolutely no drawbacks to the gum cube treat). 

By human standards, they are not very skilled. Impressive for a pet, though. Otherwise, there is no change in a Thing's intelligence, cognition, or personality.

Friendlier Things like to act as assistants or familiars, helping their owners out with their tasks by fetching supplies, singing along to music, or just being there for comfort. More independent Things will simply take up art as a sort of pastime, while lazy Things will... not change at all.

No changes are made to a Thing's diet-- it will eat whatever it ate before.
