Hierarchy

In more ancient times, Wishira was lead by a single leader from an old bloodline. Tribe members believed the bloodline of the leader to be one and the same with the ancestors of shroom island from millennia ago, guiding them over the centuries into the community of peace and prosperity they are today. As time led on and the island expanded, so did the need for more leaders.

While females do hold dominance over males, species ranking does not factor in for member importance. A leader of Wishira can be common, alpha, or even a grunt so long as they pay their respects to the ancient bloodline. Leaders are not seen differently because of species ranking. This equality between ranks applies to the tribe as a whole.

In present times, Wishira is led by multiple leaders, each from a different area of the island. They each have their own ranges of expertise. These leaders are considered equal and have an equal vote, seeking to maintain balance around the island. The leaders meet anually, but it isn't uncommon for them to visit eachother frequently if there's any events of urgency.

These leaders work mostly independently, but still take care of each other. For example, a leader of Wishira toskals living on the outer masses of the isle would have enough fish to give to the inner Wishira inhabitants if they didn't have enough to eat. Members of the Wishira are allowed move freely into other sections of the island that are ruled by different leaders. Rules may differ per area, but members can integrate with no problem.

When it comes time for retirement and succession, an apprentice of a current leader is chosen to take over the role. A former leader then becomes a tribe high elder. If a leader has multiple apprentices, rather than going by seniority, a choosing ceremony is held before the crowning ceremony wherein the tribe elders help decide which apprentice would be most fit to lead. The apprentices who are not chosen to lead are free to choose how they live after the ceremony.

Children of the leader or leader-to-be in the most inner, deep parts of Wishira train as royal guards. They are high ranking soldiers, and are the only ones permitted to personally protect the leader. Refusing to serve is an option, but it is generally seen as a cowardly choice by tribe members and other royal guards.

Wishira of course holds the leaders in the high regard. However, botanical artisans are held to a similarly high esteem. Only a select few can become a botanical artisan as a mere handful of familial lines hold the closely guarded secrets to cultivating shroom island's rarest of flora for tribe use. Even those born within these special familial lines must dedicate their lives to practice and further studies if they wish to become a botanical artisan. Often, botanical artisans are trained by previous artisans.

Outside of leaders and botanical artisans, there isn't a noticeable social difference between jobs or tribe members. Each and every contributing factor to the tribe is crucial for its survival, and this is known by every member.
