Diseases

Shroom lung: A deadly disease released by toxic spores. Once inhaled by a Toskal, the damp and warm conditions of the lungs is a perfect home for the fungi. In the early stages, the infected Toskal has a mild cough. Eventually, their ability to take in oxygen will diminish over a span of years. If the coughing is picked up upon quick enough, a shaman can concoct a herbal mixture that is to be burned and inhaled by the infected toskal. After that, there is a grace period of two weeks to see if the toskal in question has indeed been cured. If it fails, then there is nothing the tribe can do for them. Once they die (usually from asphyxiation due to being unable to breathe), the bodies must be discarded in the ocean, as the fungi cannot grow or spead in salt water and the body cannot be interred within the island or burnt for fear of spreading the spores. It is a sad existence and end for any toskal that falls ill with the disease.
They'd probably live quite an isolated life when the disease hits is peak (in the last year of life, toskals afflicted last at the maximum 4 years) as them coughing could be seen as them spreading more deadly spores.

Fur rot: A disease caused by bacteria found on some fungi and can be spread from other toskals or critters. Early symptoms of fur rot are itching, chills, and bodily discomfort. Fur rot causes a toskal to become unbearably itchy over time with aching pains and fur inevitably falls out in clumps, sometimes permanently scarring their skin depending on how bad the case of fur rot is. It is highly contagious from touch and an infected toskal must be quarantined. To treat fur rot, an infected toskal must soak themselves in a highly concetrated, double distilled cider. After soaking in the cider, they must rinse off in salt water or the cider could poison them. Fur rot isn't a fatal disease, but the pain and itchiness can drive a toskal mad.

Medicines

Beetlewine: A slimy, red mixture created from crushed wildberries and a specific kind of beetle. This mixture is great for a toskal trying to rid themselves of a cold. It has an extremely bitter aftertaste, sip it quickly!
Balmleaf: From a fern-like plant with waxy leaves; the leaves can be applied directly to a rash or a burn to help soothe and heal.
Sourcider: A double distilled cider created from a mix of select fruits and fungi; it is not for consumption, but rather as a soak for toskals who are affected by fur rot.
