Alya, a former homicide detective, knows first-hand the malleability of human morality. A man's goodness can just be a trick of the light, giving way to evil in the dark. A thought that used to bring her fear, her personality was once like a star hidden behind clouds. Shining and but never having the chance, kind yet quiet, faltering, and hopelessly distant. More often than not (in less than kind words) , Alya was a fuck-up. Spilling hot coffee on her superiors, getting crime scene evidence mixed up or contaminated - it was sometimes hard to see her efforts and intelligence. Alya always got in over her head trying to help others even if it made things worse, unable to help her empathetic heart.

Up until around two years ago, all she was was another overlooked speck in a sea of stars. After a month-long disappearance, she returned suddenly and almost unsettlingly changed. With a newfound brilliance as a sun rising after a storm, Alya’s bright personality and infectious, warm optimism cuts through her bleak surroundings. A mix of her encouraging words and gentle reassurances tends to bring out the best in the people who gravitate toward her kind leadership. Her flirtatious, bordering on promiscuous side tends to win people over just as easily. Once incapable for even herself, Alya puts a sharp focus in motivating and lifting others up by her own strength. Alya’s sunlight can burn too hot, however, as she tends to impose strongly on others and shows very little tolerance for dishonesty.

Although happy for her new-found confidence, her old co-workers can’t help but wonder if the tender-hearted woman they once knew was still out there, missing. Two years after the Woodvale killings, Alya takes her new job as a journalist to document the aftermath - and perhaps discover a new plot brewing behind the scenes...
