BIO

Description

Hera is a natural fighter, always looking for a tough opponent to prove herself against. She wishes to grow stronger so she can evolve into a Salamence and fly, and she continues to train daily in order to achieve this goal. She has a quick and sharp mind, great strength and coordination, and flexibility on the battlefield; all qualities that promote her aptitude for battling. She remains arrogant, prideful, and often overconfident, and can get aggressive or defensive easily, leading her to butt heads with others a lot; however, with her strong heart and will, her courage, and her leadership, she has earned the entire team's respect.

Known Past

Hera grew up in a very small Pokémon settlement, as the youngest daughter of the settlement's leaders, a Garchomp and a Salamence. She had two older sisters, both Gabites by the time she was born, and their father, the Garchomp, spent more time training Hera's sisters than Hera herself, likely due to them sharing his evolutionary lineage. Hera's sisters would often pick on her for being weaker than them. Her lack of attention and training crippled her ability to compete with her more privileged sisters and wounded her pride, so she took off to train on her own, with the goal to one day surpass them in strength. She eventually came across the Pokémon Professor Elm, with whom she trained. There she met Eli, who she considered to be a good sparring partner. At her request, she was registered as a potential starter Pokémon.

During the Comic

A few months pass, and Ethan is finally eligible to register as a trainer, so he does so and picks Hera as his starter. Even though Ethan is the trainer, Hera is a natural born leader, often deciding which direction the team will go and what they should do to train. She instantly earns her trainer's respect, who comes to rely on her. Hera has been on Ethan's team through his entire journey so far, so she has seen her fair share of important fights, including against various Legendaries, Gym Leader Falkner, and Team Rocket's Proton. Watching Terry get hurt and Will get killed and the guilt of not having done something to save them has been clearly weighing on her.

Pokémon Info

Ability: Mold Breaker

"Moves can be used on the target regardless of its Abilities."
Through force of will and physical force, Hera breaks through her opponent's defenses in order to land direct blows.

Known Moves

(bold indicates in current moveset)

Dragon Claw

Dragon

"Sharp, huge claws hook and slash the foe quickly and with great power."
Hera focuses draconic energy, her life force, into projections of sharp, solid claws she uses to attack, block, and deflect with.

Revenge

Fighting

"An attack move that inflicts double the damage if the user has been hurt by the opponent in the same turn."
Hera's wrath shifts her draconic energy from purple to red. This attack focuses more on the use of sheer force and exploiting openings.

Belly Drum

Normal

"The user maximizes its Attack stat in exchange for HP equal to half its max HP."
Hera overcharges herself with awakened draconic energy, temporarily converting her life force into pure strength.

Rest

Psychic

"The user goes to sleep for two turns. This fully restores the user's HP and heals any status conditions."
Hera revitalizes herself and her life force through focus, but in doing so leaves her wide open. She rarely uses this ability during combat.

Role Play

Psychic

”The user mimics the target completely, copying the target's Ability.”
Hera once tried to analyze then copy her opponent's fighting style to throw them off. She has since adopted different strategies.

Quotes

(Terrence: We should talk about ourselves!) "By saying our names in a circle? I'd rather not."

(page 12)

"I'm not antisocial! I just... prefer being by myself."

(Q&A 1)

"Since we've met, you've been avoiding any conversation related to you. It's about time you tell us why."

(to Terrence, page 21)

"I can’t even imagine what Terrence is going through. ... He’s grieving, but he’s trying to hide it. I can’t fix what happened, but I wish there was something I could say to him… but I can never think of anything to say.”

(page 24)

"I'm a slow grower, okay?!"

(to Eli, page 28)

"You know, I did try to warn you. But you never listen."

(to Terrence, page 28)

"Ready to get your tail handed to you again?!"

(to Eli, page 28)

(internally) "He's just been asking me random questions since we got here. He's even chattier than Terrence... how delightful."

(page 29)

"I want to be the strongest. It's as simple as that. Then I can show my stupid jerk sisters that I'm stronger than them!"

(page 29)

Other Information

As of page 29, Hera has made appearances in 189 panels across 24 pages: 4-6, 8-14, 16-24, 26-29. Aside from Ethan (at 241 panels), Hera has appeared in more panels than any other character in PiJ.

Hera has been in more battles than any other PiJ character, having fought 10 individual Pokémon (counting Eli twice and counting sparring).

In Q&A 1, it's revealed that Hera very much wants to fly (as in become a Salamence), but isn't ready to evolve, as she isn't looking forward to the immobility of Shelgon.

Hera's name comes from the Greek goddess of the same name. Her name was originally going to be Athena but was changed last second.
