Poor child, it’s a shame what they have to endure, always welcome to come and rest
[I swear it wasn't that I wanted to abandon you, it was too late to take anything back. I was far too late by the time you had to leave on your own.] Chanterelle was another young player he met way back shortly after his encounter with Goose. She was a fresh breath of air from the antagonizing, and also became a valuable friend he provided some protection and even guidance from what he knew and learned. Unfortunately, he became more worried and determined about escaping the game, slowly drifting and taking up Deerstalker's advice and training until that very day...
It was bad enough that Goose left us, but you left me too? Did I do something wrong? I promise I’ll be good if you both come back
“H-Hey hey, ah, don’t be upset- it’s ok! We’re here again! Pinkie promise we’ll stay this time.”
[Oh, a pity. Ashamed to have listened to me from the start? I don't blame you, it must have been rough to have that painful realization...I just needed to use you to put an old friend in their place. Yes, you and that man were created to fail. If anything it's their fault you had to end up like this, they were the one that couldn't let go of you. An incarnate getting attached to the lives they cause nothing but suffering to as an omen, quite ironic is it not? And you helped me further cement that in their head.]
An abomination made with the face of a child. Made to be faulty, defective. Phenex didn’t ask to be brought back like this, and has no love towards the entity that took them from their rest. It hurts them. It scares them. They’re.. not sure what to do.
(" You smell of dead flowers, I smell of the sewer I rot in. And yet part of her wanted to ask, wanted to scream 'How did you not know?' 'How did you not realize that I was rotten?' ")
Old playmates! At least, they were before Rose got sick. Rose did have fun with her little friend that would hang around the playground with her! It’s a shame Atlas can be so overbearing at times and would always come to pick Rose up at the end of school, cutting their playdates from going on forever. Oh well. See you tomorrow, Sobble! Let’s play again!
Did I promise that? Maybe I did, I'm sorry little one, but it looks like it's no longer an option...They hardly remember you as you were, and if you returned, they would surely tear themselves apart all over again. [...I did lie to her more than once. It was the only way to get her to listen, and make her feel like she had no other choice than to accept my...other offer.]
Why did they disturb her grave? They promised her they would bring her back to her family. Not.. this. The transformation was nothing short of agony.
...A Virtue. How curious. I wonder how it feels, the other side. [Sure, it must be nice, but your virtue comes with its own itch to balance it out. We all have it. Does it nag you? Scare you even? We're not human for a reason, we can't be perfect.]
He does not enjoy talking about his counter part . . .
"Wakey Wakey?"
Out of all of the proxies, Chestnut has probably interacted with Sloth the least. He doesn't even remember if they've properly met or not, but he knows the devastating power that Sloth possess all too well.
"Not him again."
Treats him with respect and kindness like everyone else, but he has little patience for this greedy capitalist.
"Ahaha, oh, I promise I don't bite!" Admittedly finds it interesting to see a Virtue-aligned incarnate for a change, perhaps if their alignments weren't so opposed their encounters would be a little less tense. Though thankfully Trickster seems to be one of the least hostile Vice-aligned incarnates, just a bit mischievous if anything.
"That's-That's a bit too close now-"
*creates a shield to separate them.*
He's a bit conflicted about them, better to stay away.
"oh, hello again . ." [passive aggressive]
Yeahh, going after and torturing children isn't exactly going to get you on Chestnut's good side.
Tolerates their existence enough, but is not opposed to dropping them on their ass in order to protect someone.
There is no hope for winning this game. The only thing that matters is surviving. Understand that, Player.
[You're the one that forced me to choose...it was either me or them, and I chose selfishly.] Someone who he thought was a valuable and trustworthy-enough player to learn from, influencing him a bit to the point of starting to stray from his first companions. Perhaps even the catalyst to pushing him to what would inevitably be some of his lowest points. Ironic what Deerstalker even told him in response to his hopes of escaping.
It's not new but it feels fresh, with just learning to move through the emotions he caused them to be ripped from. Stupid pristine bitch, hope you like mud on your table when I kick up my gross ass boots on it. (DIVORCED DIVORCED DIVORCED)
...He's very certain that he was the one that dragged the both of them to their current fates. A constant reminder of his first huge mistake in this godforsaken game, The Bandit is an additional reason The King never leaves his castle. Knowing all too well that this could have surely been avoided, what Goose said before proving that, he's sure of it. He understands the resentment, and resigns to it. Remaining on his ebony throne for as long as his existence allows, until outside forces hopefully interfere at least.
"Hey, look, sorry I was a huge asshole at first. I know it cant really make up, but I guess I was just a little... Err... Jealous...? Cause... You... You got a hang of everything really fast and.. And you seem to have... So much to go back to..." "I guess cause of you and Elle... I'm actually looking forward to getting out of here...? Ah... That's actually kind of sappy ignore that-" "Maybe... Maybe if I wasn't such an idiot... We could've been friends sooner...?" "Aha, uh, anyways, see ya!"
[...The very first friend I betrayed here.] The very first player he encountered here, who honestly gave him a bit of a crummy first impression. Antagonist little thief! He'll show them...Certainly gave eachother an enemies to rivals to friends arc for the first half, with their third party member Chanterelle forcing them to soften their back and forth retorts. They actually did start to get along eventually, understanding a bit better of their situations and cooperated more in situations. Maybe if he didn't end up doing what he did, things would have been different...
"They're just a child . . "
From taking Sobble out for small adventures to shopping centers or even just getting ice cream, Chestnut does his best to try to cheer up his friend and add a bit of kindness and joy to their life.
Gods above know how much they need that after all they've been through.
"Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer do..." He was the fabled tale of a man who was killed and thrown down the deep deep well of the town. In truth, he fell into a deep slumber, and his radius of effect caused the people in said town to never die, yet never sleep. Causing a spiral of madness over many many years. Though it would be a matter of time until he woke back up, and climbed out of the well into a now reddened town.
"w-wait theres still so much more too-"
[Your existence is a joke, you know. You were purely created by *me* to hit where it hurts for that pathetic "child" you collectively care for *so* much. How can you hope to be there for them when the sight of you pains them? Do you really deserve to be their father after letting them down so many times?]
The reason he exists in the first place, Solace holds no goodwill toward his creator. He finds them to be a vicious coward, who spends their time punching down to pretend they're better. They're pathetic, and they both know it. He'll end this cycle of suffering, if its the last thing he does.
A....A HEEM HEEm....... (;へ;)
"H-hey hey- it’s okay- it’s not your fault, alright? we're okay, we're here. Its... It’s going to be okay this time, I promise."
Their purpose. Solace had been made to hurt the child, a grotesque reminder of all the people who had cared for them and had died because of it. But he refuses to accept that. He’s been given a second chance. He’s going to make sure that theyre loved, and safe. They deserve it after everything.
“if i had a nickel for every time someone stole my face, i’d have 5 nickels, which isn’t much but this needs to stop happening.”
"it makes me sick to see the similarities..except you actually start with something. you gain things meant for you now and then, and sometimes you lose them. but even that doesn't change the fact that you at least had something to miss. and I really, *really* hate how that makes me feel."
