Elros has a great deal of respect for his fellow cleric, Light. They may walk very different paths and share little in the way of their faiths, but Elros thinks Light is everything a cleric should strive to be; devoted to their god yet open-minded to those outside of their faith. He is thankful for the time she was willing to help his fallen companion Sanyang when he no longer could.
Light does not necessarily understand why people turn to faiths other than that of Calistria, and she doesn't pretend to know this- but she does understand extremely well why anyone would turn to a faith in general. As such, Light may not understand why Elros chose Sarenrae above other deities- but she understands why Elros could've chosen a life of faith very well. It's a decision she respects as she values faith, no matter the deity, and is willing to provide Elros and his friends shelter in her church should they need it- even if just because she thinks Elros' seemingly being so clueless about what Calistria stands for is rather amusing.
If Hideo had to describe Woo Ping in one word it would be “genki”. At first glance, Woo Ping may look like an old monkey man, but appearances can be deceptive. Woo Ping can be brutal on the battlefield and Hideo has seen him liven up when luscious women were involved during more than one occasion. Hideo is highly impressed with Woo Pings continued good health and spirit, but wonders when he’s going to run out of juice. The history between Woo Ping and Ahmya, the village elder of Mura, concerns Hideo.
Ever since the day Sir Cumference removed his helmet to dramatically to reveal his long blond hair, Elros knew that, at the very least, they would come to understand each other aesthetically. Although Sir Cumference mostly keeps to himself, Elros feels he has indeed learnt what the rugged man likes most: women. While Elros can’t say he shares that passion, he does understand Sir Cumference’s need to cling to something as they continue to fight for what they think is right. It just so happens to be that Elros has his faith and Sir Cumference has the pleasures of the (metal, I mean-) flesh. Despite their differences, Elros trusts Sir Cumference fully and he recognizes the kindness in the actions he takes for him and their companions.
It is truly fortunate that Sir Cumference and Ellisys met at Fort Rannick rather than earlier in Ellisys' life. Ellisys’ time as a part of the Black Arrows has taught her, among other things, that not all humans are bad and Sir Cumference is a perfect example of those ‘not so bad’ humans. Sir Cumference saved Ellisys from certain death and for that she is grateful. She keeps a watchful eye on him, but not for the reasons one might expect. She enjoys fighting at the front line with him and hopes to see him in action more often.
In Hideo’s eyes, Jolene is, above all else, a non-spellcaster. This by itself makes her superior to their fellow travelling companions. Jolene uses a weapon Hideo is unfamiliar with. It’s very loud (and also scary), but he cannot deny its incredible power and her unshakable aim. Although Hideo is bad at expressing it, he is grateful to her for travelling to a different content just to help him (a complete stranger at the time). Hideo sees her devotion to bringing good and justice to the world as admirable, even if he is unsure of what she thinks this should entail.
Hideo is a sneaky and stealthy little man whose fast dextrous fingers are both a bane and a blessing in Jolene's eyes. His fine motor skills are fantastic at picking locks so that Jolene can enter rooms to deliver the justice she feels necessary- but at the same time they fuel his compulsive stealing. Jolene doesn't think Hideo is a bad person- on the contrary, she believes he has good intentions in his heart just as much as she believes this of others. However, she wishes he would resist stealing items when it is not necessary for him to do so- especially since, while she's very perceptive, she's not nearly fast enough to catch him in the act until he fesses up about it.
Having been taught since hatching that humans are bellow yuan-ti and they can’t be trusted, Ini did little to hide her disgust when she and Ditka first met. In Ini’s mind she never actually had agreed to join the circus (although she had never refused the offer either), but suddenly Ditka was welcoming her with open arms and showing her the ropes. Over time, it became harder to deflect Ditka’s warmth and kindness and after a few years, Ini no longer felt any negative feelings towards her. Ini still doesn’t consider Ditka a friend as she is unfamiliar with that word and its meaning, but she does enjoy listening to Ditka’s stories and insists Ditka invites her when she is planning on sharing one.
Ditka would be lying if she said she understood Ini in any way whatsoever- but that doesn't matter to her. She doesn't need to understand Ini (or Blitzy for that matter) to want to give the both of them a strange but welcoming home in the circus. Ini is hard to read and doesn't let others in on what she's feeling, or perhaps the distance she keeps is what she's genuinely feeling. Ditka doesn't know- but she does know that she considers Ini a part of the family and she'd be willing to help with just about anything if Ini ever asked. She never really does, so instead Ditka makes sure to have a spot saved for Ini when it's storytime.
Elros considers Gren his best friend. They are both men of faith and while they may not worship the same god, they share many values and truths. After all, Irori and Sarenrae both are gods of healing. This connects them despite their completely different backgrounds and upbringing.
Gren is a man of few words, but since their meeting, Elros has felt they don’t need to share that many words between them to understand each other. This is not to say Elros holds back on sharing his thoughts with Gren. On the contrary, Gren is his favourite willing(?) subject to explain all of his (conspiracy) theories to. As much fun as that is, Elros still enjoys the quiet moments with Gren the most.
Gren dearly cherishes Elros as a friend and as a companion. The half-elf has saved him and the group multiple times from devastating situations and Gren is very grateful for that. Elros is the calm to the chaos that edges Gren's mind and is often the voice of reason he listens to amidst their often disorderly party members. Gren feels rather guilty whenever he zones out during the cleric's conspiracy theory tirades, opting to draw little doodles to go with the ever growing mind maps instead just to keep himself from falling asleep.
With Hideo's dislike for magic and bards specifically, he and Mordecae were never going to get off on the right foot. Mordecae, however, did everything in his power to ensure they absolutely wouldn’t. Ever since they met, Mordecae’s bullying has been a constant in Hideo’s life. Hideo is unsure of how to deal with it, as before he was usually the one causing mischief to get attention. Mordecae is giving Hideo a taste of his own medicine… At the very least, there’s always something interesting going on with Mordecae around, but Hideo would never admit to feeling that way.
Having spent time working in a brothel, Mordy is used to people always wanting something from him. That's why he has taken a liking to Hideo, who wanted absolutely nothing to do with him the moment he revealed himself as a bard. The rogue's blunt disgust was honest and genuine, something Mordy could appreciate. Hideo's avoidance is rather refreshing and comical, which only prompts Mordy to further push buttons in hopes of setting off a mental bomb to the rogue's calm exterior. The teasing aside, Mordy appreciates Hideo's competency in his many skills in and out of combat.
The best way to describe Quill and Elros’ meeting would be ‘gay panic’, at least from Elros’ perspective. At the time Elros going was through a rough patch all by himself. Having someone not just be genuinely nice to him but also flirt with him constantly allowed him to regain some of his lost confidence. He thinks he’s grateful for the support, but it’s hard to say seeing as just being around Quill makes it hard to think straight. Fortunately, the rogue has a knack for suddenly disappearing out of sight, which usually clears the fog in Elros’ mind just enough for him to realize he doesn’t know too much about Quill and he would like to learn more about him.
Before joining the circus, Ini had never met a person like Raine before. Everything about her was so alien that Ini couldn’t make paws or tails of her for the longest time. Raine is still an enigma to Ini, but now that they have known each other for a little more than a year she has realized a few things about her, namely: 1) if Raine fits, she sits, 2) ‘no’ isn’t part of her vocabulary and 3) Raine and Mienie seem close… Ini doesn’t like that.
There is a certain disdain Raine feels towards Ini that she herself cannot quite place. The tension that came when Ini joined the circus and the short lived hostile behaviour the Yuan-Ti had towards Ditka did not sit well with Raine. The only reason she tolerated her was because Ditka had wanted them to get along, thus she feinted friendly at first. Raine chose to be better acquainted with Ini's panther companion Blitzy instead, partially to spite the beastmaster. Their relationship over the course of time has developed into one of bickering siblings. Raine carries a crudely made sock puppet with her that bears resemblance to Ini, which she places on her tail to tease the latter with.
At first glance, Lotus and Tzatziki are nothing alike. At a second glance, you would maybe notice the drunk monk or artificer tagging along with them, but that’s where the similarities would end. Like water and air, Lotus and Tzatziki’s worlds were apart until a storm swept up their lives and intertwined them in dance. While Lotus often finds herself wondering what is going on inside that bird-sized brain of Tzatziki, she knows his kindness and cheerful outlook on life don’t need any explaining.
Lotus is grateful to have Tzatziki as a friend. He pushed her once to reveal more about her reasons for wanting to stop the elemental cults than she was willing to share at that time but understands now that he was simply trying to make it easier to talk about how they hurt her.
Being one of the people who saved her from certain death, Ellisys is grateful to Gren and indebted to him. They haven’t gotten much time to talk and get to know each other as of yet, but she feels he is someone she can trust. She will offer her strength to him for as long as she is able.
Henry is Tess' younger brother and her main reason for becoming a monster hunter. She always wanted to make the world a saver place to protect him, but ever since she let him in on the monster hunter business she and their mother were up to Henry has proven again and again that he is more than capable of ridding the world of monsters himself. Tess knows he is better than she is about the whole killing monsters thing, but she will never say as much. After all, she quite likes the pedestal he has put her on! The view is nice up there.
Tess is Henry's older sister, and one of the people who inspired him to become a monster hunter. He looks up to her a lot, and thinks she's one of the coolest people he knows, despite her being an absolute force of chaos.
