stands for "smoke amidst the mist." prophesizing their final reign come the rise of man, the dragons of the land hastened to immortalize themselves in any way possible. twins sorita and moriya—dragons of smoke and mist respectively—locked away portions of their consciousness before the fall. it is only an era later, as humans and more have called the land of ithressa home, have the two found their vessels: the morally grey leader of the assassin syndicate known as the shrikes, isaac "the ebon hawk" fowler, by sorita, and the paragon of justice and leader proxy of the city of whitecliff, dawnjustice fleur harlowe, by moriya. with the two butting heads due to their opposing views of the world, peace across an already fragile land hangs in the balance. only time will tell if it becomes a reality.
when the progenitor god, khaxdros, proved too sympathetic to his tyrannical first children, the humans revolted, sealing him with them behind the constant. the lingering remnants of his being produced his second children, and were soon venerated as the new pantheon as his first were cursed as the mired gods. balance became apparent across callo in the following years, allowing the institution of magic to flourish as a profession. young ezra locke found himself enamored with it, and did all he could to pursue it as a career despite his parents' hesitance. however, when his interest leads to him unwittingly making a blood pact with khaxdros himself, breaking him free of his imprisonment in the constant, ezra finds himself carrying the fate of the world on his shoulders.
*note: with the exception of a few (such as those denoted as gods), most of the characters in this story are human, so nonhuman attributes on a character's design (animal ears/tail, wings, horns, etc; unnatural eye/hair colors are kept) are eschewed for the sake of story.
