Do you have any characters whose design(s) were inspired by fictional characters? Like a cartoon character, book character, movie, etc. I'd love to see and know why you chose to make a design inspired by them!
I find that making OCs inspired by favorite fictional characters just makes me love them so much more. I have a few:
Kara, who was unintentionally inspired by Katara from Avatar: The Last Airbender (friends pointed out the color scheme and name similarity so I kind of just went with it), who prompted me to make Zakari, who was then inspired by Zuko from ATLA as well. There's also Skye and Diego, who were inspired by Star and Marco from Star Vs. The Forces of Evil. Lyam and Dalila were loosely inspired by Adrien and Marinette from Miraculous Ladybug.
I'd love to know if anyone else has fun making "inspired by" characters as well!
Nancy was based off Jack-O-Chica from fnaf. she's now a cannibalistic cultist
Katia was originally based off of Kate from Alpha and omega, She's now a magical ex-princess alien with a goal to save the world
Angel was based off of Micheal Afton from fnaf, she's now the daughter of a mafia hitman who wants to be an artist
111-B was based off of the enemy Tangle from fnaf world, Now they're an escaped test subject clone who runs a auto repair shop
probably doesn't look too much like him at a glance, but my original vision for li was based off parappa the rapper! they've definitely evolved since my original concept but the universe theyre in definitely still takes inspiration from ptr ^^;
i've been re-reading thru the drizzt series w/ my husband and i was annoyed looking up Dove Falconhand's drawn out design (my Dove is more in line with what i thought the ranger looked like lol).... and then Eleni Thistledown kind of had this outfit (i gave to my Dove) in my mind's eye.... Dove himself obviously has inspiration from the ranger's name, but more of the farmer's daughter's constitution (and "occupation")?
since both of their scenes were short and quick in the book, i just decided to make an amalgam of my own thing here. no offense to the two ladies written, but i wanted to actually utilize all of this thinking i had done, since it was apparent that it was nothing like what was put down LOL. he's definitely already shifted away from his roots of my creation with him (as most of my characters seem to do, without my permission -_-;;; )
taking media inspiration is not really something i do a lot of, so it was fun to actually sit here and mention all of this secret 'useless' info dfjksjkfdsj
Lemon's original inspiration has been Loser [BFB]!! Not very known but his last name is actually shared with the DR AU version of Loser that I have ^^ I love him a bunch still hehe
Honestly a vast majority of my characters take inspiration from other characters, whether that be my friends' OCs or characters from other media. A good example I can think of is Svala, a Norwegian monster hunter. She gets a fair share of her inspiration from Astrid from How To Train Your Dragon.
Here's Seiko, whose original concept was to be "a better Sasuke," so they share some design elements with him! They also stole aspects of their hair design from some random character from House Party or whatever that weird game was called. I don't particularly like the game, I just liked this one model's hairstyle lol. Also, Valera was inspired by Wen Hai Lee from Yakuza 0, so he also shares some design elements, though it's a bit more subtle with him. Inigo, unfortunately, was based off Ivor from Minecraft Story Mode. Archer and all the Sciyr army uniforms took heavy inspiration from the designs of generic human characters in the mobile game Terra Battle! Finally, Xiko was designed after Icarus from the original myth!
