What are your trademark character archetypes?

This was a conversation my friends and I were having earlier about our characters: everyone has certain character archetypes they're a sucker for-- or maybe ones that they can't help but keep making. What's your poison?

You can interpret this generally: maybe archetypes like "jerks with a heart of gold", personality traits like "smug", storylines like "friends who fall in love", whatever types of characters you love to see or create!

My characters:
a) idiots but they try
b) feelings are hard let's never talk about them
c) conflict resolution is hard let's never talk about it

All my forum games and threads

OmgACorgi

-Depressed/nihilistic attitudes masked as laziness. I think only my animal OCs aren't the only ones without some form of hopelessness.

-very bad at expressing themselves, but using a creative medium as outlet.

SODAPUNKED

• dudes who are complete messes of themselves who act like man children when mad sometimes.

• people who don't put up with people's crazy antics [hint: Mr Bear, Quinn, Roxanne]

• narcissists who have beef with everyone who supposedly wrong them and talk about killing people sometimes [I'm looking at you Kong-Rey]

• almost everyone in this house has a good childhood and great relationships with their parents.

• characters who die in the most gruesome ways that sound like something you would see in a horror movie

• both strong and smart men and women [because you can both have a strong male character and a female character, why have just one gender strong than the other]

InAction

- Characters that participate in an active kind of roleplay fantasy as a costumed archetype that eventually are forced to confront the reality, become disillusioned with themselves but then grow stronger to become true heroes
- Characters that wear masks

Apokalypsa

twinks.

Ok jokes aside (it IS true though)

- less so characters and moreso my stories/worlds as a whole, but all three of my stories/worlds have some sort of apocalypse theming somewhere, guess my name on here is fitting

- I like writing vengeful characters

- there’s…a lot of characters with cat traits

- GODS. I LOVE THOSE.

crowbonez

it's usually two ends of a line and some are just somewhere inbetween lmao, we got:

• complete menaces, too confident for their own good and annoying everyone around them with it

• strange and off-putting, bad at expressing emotions other than negative/neutral ones

Omegaflowey18

Literally just Me but in a different font every time (see my humanoids folder)

Agent_Mace

-Buff/muscular guys
-Masked/faceless guys
-Characters with black and white + the primary colors in their color palettes
-Buff/muscular guys that wear masks/faceless 🫡
-Shirtless men
-Achromatic/black and white color schemes

Keileon
  • My sonas are pretty much all shapeshifters.
  • One of my friends summarized my character style as this:
    • She works best when it's a morally grey character who can STILL be justified to cooperate/be considered part of the "good guys" or protagonists, but with that same "morally grey" also opening doors to edgy stuff
ashen

the only one I can think of right now is "unapproachable, stoic, sort of mean character turns out to be heavily traumatized and yearns for human connection" lol

vilifiedz

- traumatized grandpas who are surprisingly still alive after everything
- divorced dads
- military men serving the CUNTry
-women beating the shit out of their ex's
- gym bros (or just muscles everywhere)
-horror/grey tones

Strauss (BG3 Tav) DatBoiStrauss

Literally all my OCs (especially the guy linked in IC) are just lil fellas. They're just little guys and they're there to chill. They're just a little bit evil and even a bit more morally grey but we love that for them!

If being a morally grey/neutral, reserved lil guy was an actual archetype then all my OCs would fit in there 🤣

stxrfallen

- endlessly optimistic shonen protag... but female
- women that just have... something a Bit wrong with them.
- absolute gremlin

dollyinspace

a lot of my OCs struggle with identity and/or authority issues haha. I also have a lot of ghosts, robots, fantasy species, werewolves/shapeshifters. idk. you can probably tell i am a sucker for characters whose bodies are not quite human lmaoo
