In your own words, how do you feel about Rue? How did you feel about his father while he was still alive?
Despite not being attached to many people, Does Njal want to be more attached or seek out relationships? Does he avoid it because he dislikes social interactions or deeper relationships or simply because he's afraid of them?
It's kind of complicated: he simultaneously does want to be with more people and spend time with them, but he gets tired and bored of them so quickly he often feels like it's not worth the bother + his depression acts up a lot and makes him feel miserable in a company even when he'd actually like to enjoy it, and he reads this depression backslash as something like "yeah maybe I just don't like people after all". He is also afraid of people making fun of him as he used to be pretty mercilessly bullied as a child, and he is somewhat unwilling to put an effort on correcting himself when he ends up doing something wrong to other people.
It's honestly a big mess of multiple things haha but honestly just being more exposed to social situations would do a lot good to him in his case, as Njal isn't antisocial by nature. He is calm and an introvert for sure, but used to be much more open and social! And considering how clingy he can get with people he learns to like and trust I think he does want more affection and interacting with others, but just doesn't know how to and he gets exhausted by it very easily.
In similar comparison- does this only apply to the real world, or does it apply to his video game habits too? Does he prefer playing games alone? Or is he able to be more social in a multiplayer situation like that?
Njal mostly plays video games alone, but he is known to also play online games. He has a couple of games he has played for years so he is pretty comfortable going on voice chat, but he usually doesn't chat about anything else but the game situation on hand, and leaves the other kind of chitchat out of it. Video games are a good way to bond with him though as he hardly gets tired of them, knows a lot and does have this side to him where he enjoys boasting off with how much he knows and can do.
Once he gets more familiar with his magical boy group he plays video games with them, and slowly starts to feel more comfortable spending time with them + his mood actually improves once the magical business forces him to get out of home's comfort and do things.
