Ask a question to the user above you!

Posted 5 years, 11 months ago (Edited 5 months, 7 days ago) by hedgemaze

We have lots of threads to ask questions to or about characters, but what about the users? In the vein of the Say something to the TH user above you! thread and the I want to see a TH user who... thread (and serving basically as a non-anonymous CuriousCat), this is a thread to help you get to know your fellow TH users better by asking the person above you a question. In return, the person below you will pose a question to you. After you're asked a question, edit your post with your answer!

If you're uncomfortable or don't want to answer the question you were given for any reason, just say so and leave a fun fact about yourself so the game still serves its purpose. If a question is truly problematic, message me with any concerns.

Rules:

  • Don't ask questions that are very personal or could be uncomfortable, and bear in mind that many TH users are minors, so while I encourage you to look at the profile of the user above you and ask about something mentioned if you like (like their pets, their hobbies, or their current project), please don't ask very personal questions like exactly where someone lives.
  • Try to ask something fun or interesting, but it's fine if you don't know the person above you at all-- getting to know each other better is the point of this thread! It's fine to ask something general like what their hobbies are, who their favorite fictional character is, how they came up with their username, which of their own characters is their favorite, or how they found ToyHouse.
  • Of course, it's great if you ask something more specific, too! If you know they have a lot of fandom characters, you might ask how they got into that fandom, or if they have a unique art style, you might ask how they developed it!
  • There's another thread for specific questions about characters, and another for worlds, but you can ask general/broader questions about a person's creations here, like how long they've been working on their story, or what inspires or influences them. I'm not going to keep writing examples, but you get the idea. Just use common sense and try to get to know your fellow TH users better!
  • You can ask multiple questions in your comment if you want to, but only one is fine, too. This can be as in-depth or as casual as you like.
  • Please ping the person above you so you make sure that they see your question! If you're not sure how to do this, you simply type @THEIRUSERNAME, and they will be notified! This will not work if you edit the ping into your comment later (like if you wanted to claim and then edit your question in); you must put it in when you first submit the comment.
  • You are NOT ALLOWED to skip anyone in this thread. If you cannot see the post above you because the poster or you have blocked each other, wait for another person to comment before replying to the thread. Feel free to bump the thread to encourage others to participate!
  • Wait at least a couple of posts before going again.
  • Edit your original comment with your answer to keep this clear; please DO NOT add new comments to the thread just to answer someone's question. This gets confusing. Take it to private messages if you want to have an ongoing conversation.
  • You can bump the thread as often as you like; I don't mind.
  • Be nice and have fun!   Please don't be rude if someone asks you a question you've already answered before! If that happens, you may link your previous response if you don't want to go over it again, but I recommend adding something new to say about the topic, if you can!
  • Want to play the game in reverse? Answer a question from the user above!

The first person can either ask me something or just claim a spot!

Edit: my answer

"Hedgemaze Expo" is the name of the main characters' band in my comic! I've been using either HedgemazeExpo or Hedgemaze as a username ever since, which is to say since 2003! Most people just call me Hej for short now.

The name itself doesn't mean much of anything, other than that I liked both words and liked the sort of paradoxical nature of an exposition dedicated to huge structures that can't be moved (what do they exhibit, photos? bush samples? tiny mazes?). In terms of the comic, it's just supposed to be a unique, kind of awkward, and silly band name, because in-story, it's an inside joke between my characters Jill and Amber.

Hey there, I saw that you're a fan of Eurovision! What are some of your favorite Eurovision moments? What is your favorite genre/type of performance to see: funny songs, theatrical skits, romantic ballads, etc.?

And if you were to invent your ideal Eurovision performance, what would it be like?

What's the nicest thing someone's said about your literature?

Hey, you're one of the people who's said very nice things about my lit :p (And thank you so much for that! Your comments on "Fries and Dogs" really meant a lot to me!)

I think, in general, the nicest things people have said to me about my literature have been any comments about dialogue or flow or characters sounding natural to them. That's something that's very important to me, so it means a lot if people thought I did it right!

And once someone told me they read/reread my stories all night, which, ;_____;

Do you want to publish stories about your OCs?

I'm intending to tell their story in a comic, but I'll tell you something I don't think I've said publicly before: it's not going to be just a comic! I'm planning for Catband to be formatted like a punk zine, so there will be comics, but there will also be prose, and miscellaneous other features like concert reviews, or ads, and anything else that helps tell the story. :)

timeandtimor what makes you so interested in DC or any super hero themed characters? Will it become a comic, if so, will it have the same kind of elements ( mostly action ) or your own?

——

Who is your favorite character that you yourself have designed? Why?

Golden Pitch, since she was base of a mic, a spring and some sort of old fashioned vigilante. T.O.B.Y is still in progress but its inspired by an action figure and a toy airplane. Most of my characters are simple, which is why I stick to designing humanoid robots.

I see your folder "Bitter Sweet". Is it a comic you wish to make? If so, is it a hobby comic / web comic / etc?

I’ve discarded the idea, sine I couldn’t find a perfect character for a love triangle. And I don’t think the protagonist ( Megan ) is not a relatable character. Though, if you want, I can talk about it via PM, and see if I can use ideas.

BroodingBungalow Why do you Brood in a Bungalow?   Ok but seriously, how did you come up with your username?

"Are you familiar with pokemon games? And if yes, what is your favorite generation and pokemon of all time?" Well yeah, that's my favorite game franchise! I'm not sure what my favorite generation is though, I love all of the last three, that is 5, 6 and 7. As for favorite pokemon though, that's definitely Delphox.

"Also, how long have you been creating OCs? How did you came across Toyhouse?" For as long as Periodic Apartments has been a thing i.e about 4 years now, and I don't remember how I came across Toyhouse, I guess one of my friends mentioned it at some point.

"Do you plan to continue creating characters with Kisekae?" Until I learn how to draw properly, and that won't be for a long time.

Daruby

Alexg47 So, maybe you got this question before, but i'm curious. Are you familiar with pokemon games? And if yes, what is your favorite generation and pokemon of all time? :"D

Also, how long have you been creating OCs? How did you came across Toyhouse? c:

Do you plan to continue creating characters with Kisekae?

When did you start learning English? What’s your favourite word in English and Russian?

Oh, we learn English in schools by default! However, I started paying attention only when I started selfteaching around year of 2013. I was 12 at that moment and at this time I have found deviantart! I was so fascinated and really wanted to interact with many awesome artists out there. Oh lord, now that I'm remembering stuff, I really tried to sound cool at this time of my life! And when I'm reading these comments I'm so embarrassed %D When I hit puberty I was more awkward and closeted, so I disappeared from English sites for a year or so, and my learning stoped at this moment.

I can say that I'm coming back to relearning only this year? Because I was so ashamed of my mistakes and my "boring self" these past years. %D Now I'm finally open for interactions again and I'm making progress? I hope? %) At least I'm not panicking like a little kid, haha!

My favorite word in English is "Insect". Cause, of course, I love insects and in English it sounds cooler B) In Russian I tend to use Параллельно a lot (Paralleled) and I like how that sounds %)

Also, when did you start drawing?

All my life! I started taking drawing seriously only in 2012-2013 %)

I also see that your username is also the name of an OC, what’s the story behind Ruby? ;w;

Ohhh, I want to change my username someday, I just don't want to loose all pings %) But yes! Ruby is my favorite character even if he is not related to me in any way :"D

His story is so heavy, I can't even put words how to describe it? He has three main lines of plot: Life-Support, Shadows, Past lives.
Ruby was created in April of 2014 for RP group - "Magical academy"! I was creating him thinking that he is just a one off mary sue that I would delete. Hah. How you can see - Nope %)

At this moment he had nothing but his appearance and smirky attitude. I honestly don't know why I decided to develop him? He is four years old as a character and I love him with passion. His main story haven't concluded yet and I want to make a comic or series of art to show all ups and downs.

Thank you so much for the questions! <3 I hope you got your answers!

Muwi came to be when I did some soul-searching after a rough time I had towards the end of high school. It's the Korean way of saying 'wu wei', an important concept in a few Chinese religions and philosophies which I interpret as, and to put in a very bad general sense, 'to not give a shit'. Though it means something along the lines of to just go with the flow and not let things bother you. It kind of just stuck with me since I wanted to throw away my previous screen name.

I've always been a storyteller... to myself, haha. I was sort of like the 'I have imaginary friends' kid but it wasn't interacting with me, but rather other imaginary friends. So at a young age I was already projecting OCs (which I didn't know had a term at the time) into the real world and into their own little world that I created. I think the youngest I remember myself being doing this was around 7-8. They were super mary sues though.

Worldbuilding just came to be from getting into new things and finding new interests. Especially after I got introduced to East Asian mythology and culture that wasn't just surface level, I really started to layert the details onto my worlds. And before that, anime was an influence.

My first world was a fantasy world that had about three actually detailed locations; the main hub, the birthplace of the main character, and the future establishment created by the main male character. It was heavily inspired by Fairy Tail and the guild concept there. Fun fact: my current main project of Xanadu is actually a complete reboot of the main characters in that old world. Especially in regards to the Chinese zodiac trope going on there. Irideae, who used to be the mary sue main female lead, got an actual name. And Caius is an obvious but improved expy of the main male character. They formerly were in a romantic relationship, now... they're just best friends.

(I actually found some old af docs that had some summaries of my old characters and I cringed myself to death)

Even at a young age I was seriously into angst fiction... I cried myself to sleep thinking about how to emotionally torture my characters LOL.

Swissy

muwi I'm pretty curious about your username. How did you came up with it? It reminds me of the word moe ahah.

Aside from that seemingly plain question, What got you into worldbuilding and storytelling? And when did it start? Care to tell me what was your first idea/project/world? (cant find the word to describe it but it's something like 'what was the first universe/story you ever develop or came up with')

Sorry for taking 2 days to answer this question!! School projects is surely hell bleugh

Anyways, most of my designs came from various themes such as glass, spider, etc. These themes or ideas came when i was browsing through lots of artwork on different social mediaa. I really love to browse many, many art because it makes me feel motivated and inspired! Though when creating my designs or character, i do researches (when im not lazy, that is) and implement it through the design and use my head to think of any creative ways to make it memorable while staying simplistic. It might come off as super simplistic though ahah- But even so, i find human shape kind od boring so the only thing i can came up with is round heads, or other various shape. I find it more endearing to draw for some reason. But i still do love drawing humans though!

For your 2nd question, i am interested in astrology! My friend is into astrology and my old school teacher was what got me into learning it. He was really nice too. I only learnt about the solar system in elementary school though, the rest of astronomical events and objects were learned when i was surfing the internet. Astronomy is really neat. Getting to know the things happening outside of our earth makes me excited. Especially the nightsky. My favourite event has to be Halley's comet and the blue moon. Halley's commet is such a calming event to see (event though i've never directly saw it :') ) and a commet that orbits the sun for years yet it hasn't collapsed makes me wonder what it's made of. Blue moon is just, aesthetically pleasing lol. Fortunately, i've seen this one and it's hella nice. Gotta add total lunar and solar eclipse to the list cause i've seen it before and it's so damn great and satisfying.

circlejourney What do you like and not like about living in Singapore? Would you ever consider moving elsewhere? How did you come to be able to write the periodic table from memory and can you teach me that?

"What is the plot like and where do you see the future of this project? (i.e. - how many countries do you still want to create personification form and such?)" I answered that here, but I want to clarify that there isn't really a set plot just yet, and also I'm planing to eventually do every country as well as some that aren't fully recognised yet and some territories and regions too.

"Also, is there any particular reason why your 'starting cast' are the Visegrad countries?" Well it's mainly just because one of my other friends has a country project too where those countries are the main charas, though to be honest my actual 'starting cast' is The Czech Republic, UK and The Phillippines for reasons I also explained in the answer linked above.

I'm interested in your TriPoint Border project! What is the plot like and where do you see the future of this project? (i.e. - how many countries do you still want to create personification form and such?) Also, is there any particular reason why your 'starting cast' are the Visegrad countries?

(I've been asked 'why I'm interested in Slavic country/culture/history' maybe four or five times already. Please refrain from repeating that question if possible. You're welcome to ask questions regarding that interest but let's try something more specific? Thank you)

Thank you for the questions! :)

For the Sims, unfortunately I have only played base games for Sims 2, 3, and 4 due to the my PC being super old and doesn't have enough space to accommodate all the EPs. I was lucky enough that have all eight EPs of Sims 1 and I like Makin's Magic! I'm sure there are similar theme EP later versions but I just don't get them on my PC.  For base games, I like both Sims 3 and Sims 4 for different reasons. Sims 3 for customization and ability to view what's going on in the entire town. For Sims 4 I really love the super flexible body modification slides and how there are more things to do in neighborhood/community lots (I send my sims running all over every neighborhood to dig rocks :'D). Also how even after midnight there's still opportunity to meet new sims through night clubs (in Sims 3 the town is pretty much deserted from 10-11 PM).

For 2019, right now I mainly hope that I'll be able to draw more than this year. In 2018 not only I suffered from art block/lack of motivation from depression, my tablet also broke in March. That disrupted my drawing streak terribly since I had to wait for my new tablet and than spent quite some time to get used to the new one (because the pen's weight was significantly different - much lighter than my old one).

Thank you again, you're so kind. :) My answer is likely limited to humans since they're what I draw most often (and for animals i can draw decently are only dogs and horses?). If I have to narrow it down...military uniforms, traditional clothing (as long as it's not one with super detailed embroidery/pattern because those things are highly energy-consuming when you draw them by hand) and cracked art of my own OCs like this or this.

Ah, we meet again... you say you're a student, so what are you studying? You also say you have too many interests, so what are some of them?

"do you think you've learned a lot of information about all the elements" Yeah, I would definitely say I have! But...

"Has there been a moment, maybe in school or in a simple conversation, where their info has helped you" ...I certain that's happened before, but my memory sucks so the only things I can think of are boring, sorry.

PicklePantry

I've always added some history into my characters' bios to help me retain that info and study it better. Since some of your characters are periodic elements, do you think you've learned a lot of information about all the elements (Because I know it hasn't always helped me KEK)? Has there been a moment, maybe in school or in a simple conversation, where their info has helped you, like maybe in a test or project, or some debate about the difference between two elements?

Mainly RP! I used to want to write a book, but I simply don't have the patience for it, so I'd rather my characters help someone out with their story by either fleshing out development or being a supporting cast. And a lot of my characters are like that! They're more or less a support-cast type, so whatever they do revolves around your characters; that's all from RPing them for so long kekek. Although I've tried my hand at a few small stories thanks to Toyhouse's literature feature. I definitely enjoy it, but it takes a lot of time for me. Writing big stories I don't think I could do, but writing little stories that connect to each other would be cool. Maybe I could help friends write stuff out for games they design too, idk.
As for what I've done that I'm proud of? Pretty much all of my characters! They were all built through RP so seeing them like they are now is always incredible for me. I'll look at one of my characters and think, "Man, that's THEM. That's how they really look, even in my mind. That's how they really act. And people like them!"
There are also some RP plot points a few characters keep that I'm proud of, which is why I keep them and use it as a type of structure for if anyone wants to RP (or if I get the energy tbqh). I'm also very proud of the small stories I wrote and the reception they got!
