At Last!

After the long drive, he'd finally arrived. It was a white house just like the one he saw in his vision. He parked in front of the yard and walked up to knock on the door. He was ecstatic to see her face, hear her voice, even smell her scent again. A couple seconds later, he heard someone approach the door.

"Who is it," a male voice asked from behind the door. Devin was immediately put off. "Maybe it's just her brother," he told himself before answering, "I'm a friend." Despite not considering himself one at all. "Is Lydia here?" It went quiet. But with his sharp hearing, he could hear quiet chatter behind the door.

"Who the hell is this guy? I thought I told you not to be around men."

He heard Lydia's voice. "What do you mean? I wasn't around any men," she replied.

The man shouted again from behind the door. "What's your name?"

Devin already had a grudge against the guy, so he didn't want to tell him his name, but if it meant seeing Lydia, he'd do it.

"It's Devin."

They started chattering again. Lydia sounded distressed.

"Let me see," she said. Her footsteps approached the door. Devin was too tall for his face to be seen through the peephole. Lydia knew it was him by his absurd height.

"Devin! Hold on, I'll be out in a second," she said excitedly. He smiled. She didn't forget him after all.

The male intervened. "You're not going out there." Devin heard a rough shuffling.

"Ron, stop! You're hurting me," Lydia said in a hushed voice. Devin hardly resisted the urge to break down the door and strangle the guy with all his strength. But he remained a gentleman in her presence.

The man growled and his footsteps went further into the house. Devin stood away from the door and waited. He could no longer hear their voices, but he could hear their heartbeats. The sound of them vibrated through each object in the room and gave Devin a sensual map of the room. It allowed him to perceive exactly where someone was located. Apparently, Lydia and Ron had moved upstairs. It was a strange sense that he still wasn't used to.

He waited for a while, then heard Lydia's heartbeat suddenly speed up.
