Devin Old Backstory
Here is a documentation of Devin's backstory going from May 2021 to June 2022.
We Weren't Meant To Be
In the midst of the breakup sadness, after having spoken to him a while, Emmett approaches Devin and makes a proposition.
"I know why Emily dumped you. I'll tell you if you agree to join this new gang I'm forming."
And because he's desperate to know and have closure, Devin agrees immediately without a question about it. Emmett is happy to hear that.
So he spills the beans to the boy, and it's revealed that Emily cut off her boyfriend because she was shown damning evidence of his relation to a massive crime. This crime was the Keyton Massacre that happened two years ago, involving over 600 casualties. She didn't want to believe it, but after remembering a story he told of going out on the same night, she couldn't deny it. He had no alibi.
She tried to stick it out with him and asked him some vague questions, like "have you ever been to jail" and stuff not inherently related to Keyton. But his answers did little to calm her fears. She began to feel scared and unsafe around him. The innocent boy who was once her adorable crush was starting to look like a murderer. So one day, Emily panicked and ended things with him. [This creates the possibility that Emily could still have feelings for him in the future.]
To say the least, Devin was shocked to hear this. He wondered how someone could know his relation to Keyton, but more than anything, he felt sorry for Emily and wished he would've revealed more about his incident. He couldn't exactly apologize to her, and besides, he knew Emily well enough to know that if he tried speaking to her, she'd only get more afraid. But the thing is, Devin isn't sure if he was involved in the Keyton disaster or not. While it was true that he woke up in a daze the morning it was on the news, he had no memory of the previous night after leaving the party. He'd left at around 10 PM, matching the approximate time of the murders.
He had no evidence. He didnt even know what kind of ammunition the person had presented to Emily, but just knowing the possibility, he took no chances and didn't put on a front.
And so after that, Devin had his closure- although bittersweet- and he became a member of what would later be known as The Felids.
Little did Devin know, Emmett was the person who introduced Emily to that evidence. Out of pure envy, he would do everything in his power to keep Devin out of a happy relationship. Emmett saw their charming relationship and saw what he was missing; Devin.
Author's Notes
OLD VERSION OF CHAPTER;
Devin allowed Emily to stay at his place for the night. They had just come back from a fun night out skating and planned to watch a movie together.
But Devin decided to take their relationship a step further. By the time they were cuddled up and comfortable, he asked, "Can I show you something?" Emily replied, "Sure." He smiled and pulled up one of his sleeves.
"Watch this," he said. Emily observed his hand as tiny claws emerged from his fingertips. She couldn't believe her eyes.
Emily shrieked. "WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR HAND?!"
Devin was caught off guard by her discomfort. "What's wrong??" He asked as Emily jumped from the couch, staring at his claws in disgust. Devin retracted them. "Em?" He stood and approached Emily to comfort her. "S-Stay away from me!" She backed away from him in absolute fear. Devin paused with his face in disbelief. "What's wrong? Why are you acting like this??"
Emily continued backward toward the stairway. "I knew it... I knew there was something wrong with you! They were right all along!"
"...What?"
She took her belongings and swiftly walked down the stairs. "I'm leaving!"
"Wait!" He ran and grabbed her arm. She wiggled and tried to pull away. "Let me go!!"
I'm sorry for showing you that, Em! I didn't mean to scare you!" His hand squeezed harder as she tried to pull away. Emily ignored his reasoning and pushed his arm with all her strength. "Devin! You're... hurting me!!" He gasped and released her arm from his grip. The scent of her fear was ever present, and Devin knew it.
Emily ran for the door as if her life were in danger, not looking back once. Devin watched and followed behind at a normal pace, as to not scare her any more. "Emily! Don't leave! I'll never show them again, I promise!" She opened the door, and glanced back at him. "I'm sorry, but admitting my feelings to you was a huge mistake!" He opened his mouth to speak, then noticed the red hand print on her arm and went silent with guilt.

[[[When Devin and Emily broke up, the reason wasn't clear why. It didn't happen suddenly when they were together, it was something Emily announced to him one day. After that, she cut off all communication with him and began avoiding him. This is why he was so heartbroken and confused as to why they had to be over. So now it wasn't a matter of "Your claws are too freaky for me," it's something bigger. ]]]
