Back To School

Devin decided not to return to his job. Everyone at school heard about the incident, but didn't care enough to be worried. Devin was fairly unknown in the school. No one was particularly happy to see him when he came back to class except for Cameron, his best buddy since 5th grade. Cam would be the one to text or call Devin every day he was in the hospital, keeping him some friendly company. He even brought him tasty meals to the hospital desk. He was always the type to care for everyone around him and had strong loyalty and morals.

Devin turned 18 and started to undergo some strange effects. His body was changing and entering somewhat of a metamorphosis stage. Muscles grew and he developed uncanny physical ability. He started to experience strange dreams involving the beast that attacked him and implying self-reflection. His appetite was abnormally large and he developed a strong desire to consume meat, exclusively. Later on, that desire would morph into the violent urge to physically hurt people. All of this would take its course for three months until the symptoms died down.

Just a month after these changes started, Devin underwent his first transformation. On the night of a full moon while walking home from a party, he suddenly felt a sharp pain in his abdomen and fell to the ground. The transformation was very slow and painful.

After he'd transformed into his full wolf form, he traveled to a large building in a hunger for human flesh. Today, people call it the "Keyton massacre." Devin caused over 200 violent casualties all in the Keyton Center. Most of the victims were wealthy men and women who were visiting the luxury hotel to buy and sell goods. It was a place of illegal practices.

Devin would continue on his rampage for three hours before collapsing on the top floor and shifting back into his human form. The poor teen woke up about an hour later in a daze, and with the worst headache. Most of his body felt numb and strangely loose. He opened his eyes to the sound of a helicopter above the building and saw dozens of motionless bodies scattered around him. Blood stained the floor along with his hands, and his clothes were missing. He began to panic, and heard a stampede of heavy footsteps heading up the floor toward him. In his dazed state, he found no other escape and jumped through the glass window, plummeting 115 feet to the ground. It was a slow fall. His body spun around and practically went into orbit, the sky and the ground twirling in a blur, brighter than usual. The surrounding brush below gave him a somewhat cushioned landing, negating the damage with a roll, before he got right back up and started running. He didn't know what he was running from. He didn't know what he did, but he didn't stop, and made his escape noticeably fast.

Devin got home by way of instincts and ran to his room. He felt sick but could not vomit. Every part of his body was aching intensely, and he felt so exhausted. He limped to the bathroom, his injuries taking effect, and cleaned himself up, hiding the blood and shredded clothes from his guardian. The entire experience was like a dream. Confused beyond thinking, he fell asleep on his bed and stayed out of school the next day.

Devin slept for a long time.

When he woke up, he felt a million times better! He was refreshed, rejuvenated, and felt much stronger. It was as if he'd gotten something bad out of his system. But his day was ruined when he looked in the mirror. His ears were long and pointed, and his teeth were now sharp with the addition of fangs.

These ears and fangs never went away, no matter what Devin tried. It symbolized that something was definitely wrong with him, but he never thought to tie it to his injury last year.

Eventually, Devin had to accept his changes and live with them, even if it meant looking like a vampire elf. At least he wouldn't need a costume for Halloween.
