Aftermath

Devin was found by the ambulance and carefully transported to the hospital. He was still alive, but had difficulty breathing with his collapsed lung. His clothes were torn and bloodied, and he was losing blood from 28 different wounds. All of this along with a concussion, a broken leg, broken wrists, and a nearly decapitated ankle.

He survived through multiple surgeries but remained immobilized for months. He was transported in a wheelchair and fed all of his meals by a nurse. She even had to accompany him in the bathroom, making the experience beyond humiliating for him.

At this time, he didn't remember what happened in the attack. His baby sister Hazel was the only person on his mind. He wanted to see her and let her know that he was okay and healing well. But alas, the doctors informed him that he'd need at least six months to heal, and he wasn't allowed to have visitors until his third month. The school didn't seem to know of the incident quite yet.

Devin healed steadily at an normal rate for his first two months in the hospital. His leg and wrists felt less painful, and most of his wounds were unstapled and healing. But suddenly, he began to recover rapidly. His leg and wrists were completely healed after a constant acceleration in two days. Another day later, all of his surgery scars vanished. It was as if his body had changed very quickly.

This perplexed doctors and nurses. They immediately conducted an X-ray on him only to see that each of his bones were in pristine condition, even healthier than they were before the attack. A couple days later, they conducted an MRI on him, and saw that his lungs and other organs were now very healthy. Before they knew it, Devin was walking and functioning like the incident had never even happened. Seeing his obviously healthy condition, doctors decided to keep him for one more month, then discharge him from the hospital. Even though he was healed and better now, doctors still had their many questions. The most notable thing they found after he healed was his pulse. His nurse knew exactly what it sounded like when he arrived; slow and quiet with a bit of a murmur. But after he healed, she used her stethoscope and received a bit of a scare by the volume of the beating. It was like the healthy heart of a grown man- no, somehow even more fit than that! She was honestly surprised she couldn't hear it without her tools. Devin's miracle recovery would certainly be a memorable moment for each of the doctors in care for him.

In this last month, his memories began to come flooding back in. He remembered every detail of the attack very clearly. But he decided not to tell the nurses and keep the encounter to himself.

Eager to see his little sister, Devin reunited with Hazel and their guardian, both of whom were elated to see him alive and healthier than ever.

After that, he went back to living like normal. Or so he thought.
