  • Crux of Soma (crux meaning heart, soma meaning body; the heart of the body) : The title of Vince and Azu's shared story, colloquially known as VINZUVERSE. The characters in this world are all old, established OCs that have been redesigned and rewritten to fit the laws of this universe.
  • Otherworlders : Extraterrestrial beings with highly advanced technology that contacted Earth in the 19XXs, offering their technology for study and development in exchange for use of the Earth's natural resources. Are often identified by their nonhuman characteristics, despite their overall humanoid appearances (e.g. animal characteristics, naturally irregular anatomy, etc.).
  • Atriven City (a combination of the words atria and ventricle; the names of the chambers of the heart) : The city that the story takes place in, founded upon the Otherworlders' first contact with the humans.

  • Essence : A fictional energy source that wells up from underneath the Earth's surface and permeates the very atmosphere of the world. Essence is tied closely to the four elements -- pyro (fire), hydra (water), aero (air), and terra (earth) -- and can be manipulated when passed through the body of an...
  • Esper : A person who can naturally channel essence through their body, being able to command a seemingly-magical power over the element that they're attuned to.
  • Equippable Essence (EQE) : Technology worn by both espers and non-espers that allows espers to increase the amount of essence they can channel, as well as non-espers to channel essence entirely. Typically equipped via a glove on the dominant hand, but surgical procedures that open the veins on your wrist or neck via a bracelet or collar in order to increase the amount of essence that can enter the system at once also exist.

  • Essence Poisoning : A potentially-fatal sickness that results from the excess use of essence. Once its symptoms are detected, an essence-user must immediately refrain from essence use until the excess accumulation in the body naturally dissipates over time.
  • Viscerosis (a combination of viscera and necrosis; a necrosis that affects the inside of a person's very being) : A virus that prevents people from recovering from the effects of essence poisoning while accelerating the cell deterioration that results from regular essence use. Can be carried in both infected humans and EQE, and is spread rarely through contact with infected hosts. Severe infection is far more likely if the virus manages to enter your blood.
  • Vessels : A term used to describe essence-users suffering from the late stages of essence poisoning and/or viscerosis; essence-users who have damaged or lost parts of their mind due to excessive essence use.

  • Virion Project : A special branch of the government of Atriven City set up for the study and containment of viscerosis.
  • Wingspread Funeral Home (WFH) : A popular funeral service company in Atriven City, founded in XXXX by ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇. Current CEO is the funeral director Xell Grey.
